Bates will be our back up center and guard and Ike guard only.
-
Hes a gadget player who was asked to do too much in this offense. Bills put their faith in him and he failed. He doesn't have the skill to be a starter but he definitely can be a nice change up who gets 30 touches a season. Good luck with the Colts

Spencer Brown's job is safe and the Bills are likely high on Doyle as well. This means the Bills will be drafting a Guard. I really hope Brown's injury was worse than what was let on, because he was really bad last year.

Offensive outlook post Free Agency

My honest personal opinion. It will be linebacker and Guard between the 1st two picks. In a perfect world we trade back from 27 into the early 2nd and grab one and then we use the draft capital we got from trading back to trade up from 59 and grab the other. -

I'd love Kincaid or any other top TE but I dont think the Bills are in a luxury position to take one in the 1st or 2nd. I know alot of mocks say this and will mock someone like Bijan Robinson to us but its not true. I also think we have backed ourselves into a corner where we need our first two picks to start. We can't afford a Epenesa, Basham, or Cook this season in the 2nd Round. TE historically have really struggled in their rookie year. Unfortunately Bean has wasted numerous high-end picks on RB and DE and that is why we are not afforded the luxury of taking a TE this draft. We never should have let the oline get this bad and it needs to be fixed immediately or this duration of the Bills window truly will be closed. Its easy to say more skill is needed because alot of the pundits are saying it but our Oline was horrendous. It was horrendous the year before as well. Allen just played at such a ridiculous level it didn't matter. As we learned this year, when Allen partially tore his UCL the line was brutally exposed. Jets, Miami, New England, Cincinnati, Detroit. None of these defenses respected our oline down the stretch. Detroit had a practice squad D End embarrass Brown the entire game. Brown might get another year. Bates on the other hand might not. Bills might look at him as Morse replacement at center and be looking for the guard upgrade this year. -

I dont think he can. This isn't a good lineman draft. -

I think we find a value signing to replace Edmunds. Off Ball Mac backers aren't a premium. I think we address DL in Round 1 or 2 with the other pick being OL in Round 1 or 2. Still a lot of vet. Ends floating out there. Philips I'd like to have back, I'm just scared by his injuries. -

I think he will only use one pick on oline in this draft as we only have 6 and the oline talent drops off quickly in this draft. Doyle is still a project and who knows how much Browns back injury actually affected his play last year. I'd only be looking Right Tackle in Round 1 otherwise give me a guard to replace Bates. -

I'm with you but I think this regime has grown tired of Josh running for his life every 2nd play and our backs always having to make their own holes. A bad oline will always tank any decent offense outside the 2021 Bengals. We only have 6 picks. The OL talent in this draft is poor outside the top two Rounds which is why I think they grab one early. This is definitely a good draft to grab a Tight end or slot in the middle rounds. We still need to use some picks on the defense. -
The first week of Free Agency is over and we are beginning to see where Beane felt the Bills came up short offensively. The Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield signings are an indication to me that the Bills felt they weren't dynamic enough at receiver. We now have two guys with wheels who can also create their own space against zone defenses. The only mystery to me is why Shakir was not given a bigger role last season after it became evident Mckenzie was a liability against zone defenses? My guess is they needed Mckenzie as that twitchy slot receiver and Shakir was looked at as the # 3 outside receiver. I think it is expected Shakir takes a big step and plays a larger role in the offense moving forward. Those looking for a receiver early on in the draft will be disappointed. I believe Beane still thinks Gabe Davis is a #2 receiver and that he let him and Diggs down by having such a weak group behind them. In a cap world you have to be strategic with your upgrades and improving your # 3/4/5 receivers will ultimately improve Gabe Davis's numbers as well. I am not saying I necessarily agree with this thinking but... The fastest way for this offense to improve is to improve the oline and the Bills have already taken that step by handing McGovern a big contract. Watching the Bills near the end of last year you could see alot of their offensive play calling was tanked from poor oline play. That might be more of an indictment on our coaches but will never know what Allen's limitations and abilities were with that partially torn UCL. Those wanting olinemen in Round 1 or 2 are going to be happy because this is the direction I think Beane is going to go. I think Brown needs to be replaced and I'd be looking Right Tackle in Round 1 but I could also see the Bills wanting to upgrade on Bates and instead taking a guard. O'Cyrus Torrence would be my target in Round 1 and Steve Avila could be a Round 2 trade up target if Beane goes elsewhere in round 1. I am hoping Dawson Knox has a rebound season and he shouldn't be held accountable for having a down year after the tragic events of last summer. The running game seems fairly standard. By improving the oline you expect improved play from Cook and Hines. Harris finally gives us a back who can actually gain tough yards in short yardage situations. It would be nice for our RB's to run the ball for 1st downs instead of Allen risking his health on 3rd and 3. Heck maybe will actually see some screens to our backs this season with improved olinemen.

I am not. I saw a fully healthy offense that stalled near the end and continously relied on Allen to bail them out with his legs. Please elaborate to me which catastrophic injuries on offense the Bills had besides Allen's partially torn UCL for the last half of the season? A injury he seemed to play through. We had our entire offense against the Bengals and scored 10 whole points. Not one injury. Not one. I also saw a Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins team begin to build a blue print on how to slow down Allen's big rush plays in Dorsey's offense. They had our offense figured out and realized our oline couldn't cut it and besides Diggs no one is scary on that offense. Avg. over 100 yards rushing a game is a great stat. Not when its Allen providing a massive chunk of those yards. Now let's look at this defense. It was a rotating mess in the secondary with no unity the entire season. Our linebackers were solid. We were missing guys on the dline the entire season as they rotated in and out. Shaq Lawson was our best dend vs. the Lions after Miller, Groot, Epenesa went out. So again we held our heads above water on defense with numerous injuries and consistency. Bengals feasted on our Cover 2 Zone and the lack of foot traction in the snow. Is what it is. Offense we floundered to the finish line and we had our entire group intact. Every spare cent and draft pick in this off season should go towards the oline, 2nd receiver, and a better RB than Singletary. Our offense balled out in the playoffs vs. the Colts, Chiefs (2nd time because Allen went God Mode), and Patriots. Was ho hum vs. the Texans, and Dolphins. Was non existent vs. the Ravens, Chiefs (1st time) and Bengals. I do agree the Cover 2 Zone is annoying and let's us down in the playoffs. Hopefully without Fraizer things can change on that front. -
Absolutely they still need to upgrade. Bates right now should be your back up interior lineman and replace Morse at center eventually. Right Tackle absolutely needs an upgrade. Can't have guys coming around clean like last season.
-
Don't know anything about this guy. Don't care that he's played Fullback, Center, and Tightend. I just want freaking guards who are above average and won't get Josh Killed. NFC East had a lot of nasty Dtackle last year so hopefully he works out and isn't shell shocked by what he sees in the AFC East.

I'm saying given the choice the Bills have shown they can do alot more with less defensively than offensively. It's obvious running Allen into the ground and throwing to a triple covered Diggs isn't going to help either. Defensively we can at least keep our head somewhat above water. Offensively we are sunk unless we seriously start adding pieces this off season. Also why are we turning on Beane? People seriously forget the 17 year playoff drought? Let's see what becomes of the Bengals, Chargers, Ravens, etc when the big $$$ start to kick in. From where I stand Beane biggest issue is cutting corners on the oline and believing Davis and Mckenzie were ready for their roles. Josh Allen gave everyone a false sense of security. Now everyone knows better so let's get at it. -
My memory failed me but you're right. I still stand by the fact that, that Miami team was rolling before the Niners and Chargers. I just think their offense will not be as explosive next season and they'll run into issues. They're pouring all their resources into their defense and neglecting their oline. Will see if Waddle and Hill go off again for the same amount of yards. History suggests without stud QB play it will be hard to repeat. I am still not crazy about their defense given their linebackers are average.

Eagles were run out of the building by those same Chiefs. At any rate I've seen these Bills coaches consistently put top 10 defenses out there with injuries to stud players. I havent seen them able to do much of anything with limited offensive resources. So in a cap world where Josh Allen makes 40 million plus you pick your poison. I am quite confident in believing this coaching staff can do a lot more with less defensively vs. the offensive alternative. -
Aaron Rodgers talking with the Jets
HaldimandBills replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall
Short term this frightens me. Long Term the Jets and Dolphins are blowing their rebuild up and I love it. Bills might not finish 1st in the AFC East this year but will still make the playoffs and control the AFC East moving forward with Josh Allen. Thr Jets are hitching their wagon to a guy who is undecided on if he wants to play and who will be out of the league in 2 years. Just in time for when most of their starters on rookie deals start to get paid. Miami is blowing all their draft capital on vets who are on max contracts. They better hope they hit this year or next because Waddle and Tua contracts are coming and they have a lot of guys who are making big $$$. How do you restock the cupboard when you keep trading away high picks? -
That Bills playoff game gave the Dolphins serious false hope as to how close they are. The Bills were running on fumes and likely would've lost to the Jets had the Jets been the 1st Round opponent. Miami still has a linebacker problem. A major oline problem and a QB and offensive system that was being figured out by every opposing defense outside our stupid Cover 2 Zone defense before suffering his second concussion. People forget that the Niners Chargers, and Packers had that Tua Offense locked down. That Miami win late during the regular season was when I knew things were not right with this Bills team. It was too difficult for us and our defense struggled way too much after the Niners and Chargers gave us a blue print on how to beat their offense. Heck the Packers used the exact same defensive blueprint a week after and took it to Miami. For some reason we just couldn't get out of our own way late last season. Miami has serious let down written all over them. They're trying to hard to be the 2022 SuperBowl Rams but don't have Aaron Donald, The Oline and Matthew Stafford and they play in a much more loaded AFC.

I'm fine with letting him walk. Edmunds. Oliver, etc are exactly the type of players who you end up overpaying and regret not replacing them with someone a quarter of the cost who can produce 85% of what they can.

He's gone and that's ok. We are a coaching staff loaded with defensive minds. We should be able to find cheaper guys and scheme a solid defense. It is offense where we need to invest. We were missing chunks of our defense for most of last year and still managed to run a top 10 defense. How about just stop being so predictable in your Cover 2 Zone and run more stunts along the defensive line. Not sure how this regime can't grasp that every weapon you add is another player on the opposing defense who can't focus on our QB. Honestly we made it way to easy on opposing defenses last year. -

My Buffalo Bills Wall (I have a feeling Edmunds will be moved to the garage soon along with a host of other Ex Bills Jerseys) -
This loss wasn't that bad. Certainly not in the same realm as last years 13 seconds. Something was not right with this team all year on offense and teams have essentially figured out our defense. We need to evolve and ditch the stupid nickle, cover 2, zone defense we always run. It's obvious that good teams can easily figure it out and comfortably move the ball up and down the field on the defense. We aren't stopping the run and there are way too many soft spots for the opposing offense to pass to. Bengals had no respect for our defense and it showed when they manhandled our dline. This whole idea of running a defense that is specifically designed to not give up the big play is stupid when used vs. Burrow and Mahomes who will just pick you apart. It is irritating watching opposing qbs make comfortable passes the entire game. Zack Wilson only competent outing this season was against the Bills. Offensively we are a train wreck. We clearly wanted to introduce more passes to the RB yet never ran screens and Allen sailed alot of floaters over the middle that were missed by Singletary and Cook. Knox never got going. The oline was healthier than last seasons oline was, yet played worse down the stretch. Our oline last season weren't world beaters but they certainly performed above avg. vs. the Patriots and Chiefs last season in the playoffs. Brown never got better. Hopefully Bates is adequate back at left guard. The oline in general needs a talent boost. Gave Davis has a role on this team as a # 3 receiver. He is not a # 2. We need an actual burner across from Diggs. Slot was a mess the entire season and I am more than ok saying bye to Mckenzie for good. All in all this team needs a scheme change on offense and a talent infusion. On defense they need to play downhill more and learn to play man a lot more.

NFL could've forced a forfeit. They didn't want to be the bad guy. It's an awful scenario all around. I feel for the Bengals. Almost wish they were in the NFC so we didn't have to play them. Either way a class organization who deserves a Superbowl Victory. -

He's here because he loves the drama and he doesn't know how to process what happened to his Bengals regarding the playoff seeding. I will admit what happened to the Bengals sucks and I'd feel the same way if the same happened to the Bills. But, Dear Lord to go to another teams forum and gripe about it shows that you clearly lack other positives in your life, your Bengals Fandom is the most important thing in your life or you're young and fortunate enough to not have a true life perspective.
