  1. I keep hearing about how Edmunds takes away the middle of the field in the opponent's passing game. But we keep getting killed in the playoffs and against good QBs in the passing game. So... is it really true? Or are the teams doing this do us relying just on perimeter throws for such great success?
  2. Aaron Williams' brother, a legend in the Italian American-Football League.
  3. I agree. Longer runs are so much more infrequent than big pass plays and thus are more exciting, especially when the runner breaks tackles or fakes out a bunch of guys. So much fun. Not saying this is the model for how I hope to be consistently great, but man, if Cook can break a few long ones this season that will be a blast to watch. Maybe not as much "fun" per se, as it's nerve wracking, but yes, it's so satisfying... It's like somehow dodging a bullet when someone has a gun pointed straight at you. I know when I play pick-up football and we make a stand near the end zone and the other team can't punch it in with three or four tries it's so rewarding and I feel like it breaks the other team's spirit.
  4. You could be right about coaching. Not certainly so but perhaps. Aside from coaching, I think there's an upper-level talent deficit on the Bills. Not a huge one but it exists. We have a good team roster-wise, but not a great one. Let's see how free agency, the draft and the season go.... I'm more than happy to see Beane and McDermott succeed at a higher level and prove the critics wrong. But I don't think they get a free pass for all of Allen's prime.
  5. At least he had no excuse to be late for meetings and practice. If he was ok mentally/physically I can think of worse players a young start WR could be spending his time.
  6. I disagree, at least on the offensive side of the ball. The Bills aren't equal to the Cincy or KC offenses. We don't have enough good to great players. IMHO. And I think the McDermott presence has definitely been welcome to this team and fan base but, just like with players (Rivers, Matty Ryan, etc.) sometimes an individual is good but not perhaps championship level good and if you want to win it all, you're likely going to have to move on from a "good" leader who has a ceiling. At the very least, I think the McBeane seat has to be warming up this year.
  7. Florio said, and Simms said he didn't disagree, that if the Bills don't make a deep playoff run this season that there's a good chance Pegula cleans house with management and coaching. We have a generational QB but we've only been the conference championship once. People actually disagree with this take? Really? I'm genuinely interested in hearing why many people don't agree with that.
  8. I watched it and didn't see that comment as a shot to McDermott; he was simply saying on an offensively centered team, Jefferson will be more of a focus of the gameplan. You have to watch it to see his tone. It wasn't angry or cutting.
  9. Matthews would, if I'm reading it correctly, cause Atlanta to take a $10 million cap hit (remaining signing bonus). And he's 31. If he could improve the left size and if Dawkins would move to guard, I'm all for getting an older but good player for Oliver. Would Atlanta eat that bonus to get younger?
  10. One could take the same premise and go the opposite way: in light of Beane's poor drafting — and later-round hits — maybe we should trade down, and get more picks and increase our chances.
  11. Regardless of whether the vid is a fake, when you're 6'4" and weight 225 lb. and you have a 40.5" vertical, that's scary.
  12. I'm not a college fan or a tape guru, so just based on highlights (yes, I know) I'll take Hyatt to add some scary speed, YAC, and a more dangerous vertical game to this offense.
  13. Seems like you're implying Davis and Metcalf are pretty similar in terms of production. Davis' first three seasons total yards: 2020: 599 2021: 549 2022: 836 Metcalf's first four seasons total yards: 2019: 900 2020: 1303 2021: 967 2022: 1048 So you wanna talk yards per game and only count the games Davis started? Look at his season three: a bona fide starter with Josh Freakin' Allen throwing to him and he had 836 yards. Metcalof outproduced that in all four of his season and in his second pro season got 1303 yards, 467 yards more than Davis' full-time starter season three, or 56% more than Davis's best season. 56%. If Davis ever gets 1200 yards in one season for any team I will give $100 to the charity of your choice. I doubt he'll ever get 1000 yards but that's my offer to you. And nothing in return. Davis and Metcalf are not similar in the least in terms of production. I put my money where my mouth is.
  14. Ok, his yards per catch dropped the last couple years but he still had over a 1,000 yards in 2022 with Gino Smith throwing to him. If we can get a 6'4" receiver with that speed and vertical, despite route limitations, I'll take it.
  15. Round 1: Yes, for a top-10 pick, Oliver is disappointing. Not bad, but not anywhere near the consistent top-level play you expect for the pick. But... Rosseau could be a 10-12 sack player, and that's more than acceptable for his draft position, bottom 1st round. And he's good against the run and has upside with a short college career. Right now that pick is good and could get better. Elam had a decent year and I'd say that's a B grade, again, picking the bottom of the 1st round. Don't just say a player is a 1st-round player; the expectations for 9th overall and 23rd overall are far different. Round 2: Pretty bad. Epinesa fell for a reason and the Bills take him and then try to change him. Wrong on both counts. Basham was redundant and the failure is as well. However, Cook looks like he could be a solid pick if he continues his trajectory. So round one looks like two out of three successes and round two looks like one out of three. Not great but very mediocre and we need to do better if we're paying Allen $40 million a year.
  16. I heard Beane got some bad intel that the NFL was going the way of the CFL with 12 men on the field. Since no one knows what the 12th guy does in the CFL, Beane got someone who doesn't do anything really well but is almost a lot of things in football.
  17. Just looking at highlights (yes, I know) I love the Sanders tape. He can sniff out a play, hit hard, tackle for a loss. Yes, highlights but that two and a half minutes has more tackles for a loss than I remember Edmunds making his entire time here. And he's 6'5" so he's got the height the staff seemed to love about Edmunds. If we spent a third on a great linebacker, I'm ok. I really want the first two picks offense and at least one or two more in the top five.
  18. That's freakish athleticism. I'd love to have one WR where the other team simply doesn't know how to contain him.
  19. He just turned 26, he's 6'2", and has very good speed. Poyer and Hyde weren't stars before they came here, remember. People b**** about our coaching but it's pretty obvious MdDermott can coach secondary. Even if he's just special teams or a backup, I'm always good with checking out youngish guys with size and speed.
  20. Here's the article: https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2023/02/mike-evans-to-the-bills-for-gabe-davis-nfl-salary-cap-expert-serves-up-bills-offseason-hot-take.html " The 29-year-old has a projected market value of four years and $92 million for his next contract, according to spotrac.com. That comes out to about $23 million per year." I don't want two 30-plus receivers making $50 million a year for the next few years.
  21. Indeed, once we get past the reanimation bit, the hair takes away the middle just like Edmunds height and wingspan. He'd be killer.
  22. I wouldn't be thrilled with having two 6 foot nothing (and likely smaller) 190 lb receivers with decent but not great speed on both sides. Put Shakir in the slot and draft a traits guy for #2.
  23. Good. I have zero interest in paying a good but not great middle linebacker who doesn't blitz much or run with top TEs $18 or $20 million a year for 5 years. This means more money for the offense: line and weapons. Does anyone know if this can turn into a 3rd round compensation pick or something like that? If so, I'm all for the 3rd rounder.
