Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we can find room for his contract, I'm very good with that as trading down requires a partner and we may not find one to do so. -
McBean’s draft history and who we draft at 27
Nephilim17 replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not a college fan but looking at Hyatt's highlights I thought for sure he'd be sub-4.40. Was shocked to see the second number of his run was not a 3. Was the competition in the highlights just that slow or what? He looked so fast on the field. -

Interesting observations, OP. Thanks. That said, the 21 and under thing, that may be more of a fluke than a criterion of Beane's. I don't see the logic in drafting someone 21 over 22 or even 23 as a 22-year-old after a five year contract is 26 at the end of his first 5-year contract and a new 4-year deal still only makes him 30 at the end of a second 4-year deal. Or 31 at the end of a second 4-year deal for a guy who is 23. Trying to draft based on who you're gonna give a third contract to based on age is nuts, IMHO. If you get a player to stick around for 9 years that should be a win. Who cares if he's 30, 31 or 32 after that. -
Players you Absolutely Want the Bills to Draft
Nephilim17 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Isn't the slot guy in our offense the number three guy? Also, IF Mingo pans out, his speed, weight combo suggests he can be dominant, or at least a number 2 — to me. I think Gabe being a number 3 is more a result of Gabe's production than it is of his ideal role. -

I'm not a college fan and no scouting expert but Cosell likes Mingo so I watched some tape. I see a big guy (220 lb.) with better than average speed who can make contested catches and who bullies cornerbacks, either knocking them over or dragging them many yards after the catch. I'd be very happy with this guy in round 2. -
"Change his style of play" as you call it is not exactly the same as "make changes" to his game — and these are Josh's words, not a fan, or a journalist. He can run like a, well, buffalo, and knock over a linebacker if the situation warrants it — say, third and one and the game is undecided in the fourth quarter. But as Josh puts it, there's no need to expose his body to a big hit on second down if he can pick up nine yards and leave a yard for third down. Besides that, and Josh speaks to this too, he needs to be smarter with ball security in terms of not making those low-percentage throws when it's not needed. I think most fans and Josh himself will agree he made too many bad decisions in 2022. We have a great QB but he's not perfect. In fact, Josh knowing he can improve is part of his greatness.

Is Shady's comment about Jim losing 4 straight a low blow? Normally, I'd say yes. But Jim said this about Shady: “I like LeSean McCoy, don’t get me wrong, but I totally, 100% I disagree with what he did,” Kelly said. “You want to kneel? Fine. But when you go and do what he did yesterday, that sort of bummed me out. And I lost a lot of respect for him. … You want to kneel? That’s your prerogative. I would never do that. I will always stand, thank the good Lord for everything I got. But when you disrespect the way he did and just go by his everyday duty in the national anthem being sung? Uh-uh. I won’t go for that.” I think any player who kneels like that and is called out by a team's alum will no longer regard that past star with reverence and respect. My $.02. I know 95% are taking Jim's side here.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
"Word on the street" is not inside intel. Just alluding to the rumors that have been circulating. Is he hopeful for an acquisition? Yes. Does he have an inside track that the Bills will get Hopskins? He knows they've looked into it but I doubt he knows the details of the conversations and what it would take. Maybe I'm wrong and Beane shares all this with him as a senior star player (and an guy who wants to be a GM one day) but I doubt it. -
Hey, I looked at page one, did a "search" and couldn't find this (it it exists, apologies and please delete). Two notable quotes: ""I know this sounds crazy, but I'm getting older," Allen said, via the team's website. "It's like I can't continue to do this. I know when I'm using my youth I feel like I can, but over the course of my career, I'm going to have to learn to adapt and change." "At the end of the day, it's just being smart with the football, smart with the body, and understanding situational football really better," Allen said. "If there's a third down where we got to get it, I'm going to do whatever it takes to get it. But if it's a second and 10, I got 9 yards to go, no need to put the shoulder down and try it. We can get it on third and 1 with our players and trusting the guys around me. And if not, so be it, we'll put Von Miller back on the field and let him go to work too." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-josh-allen-says-he-needs-to-make-changes-to-his-game-i-cant-continue-to-do-this/

Have no idea about this kid but running a 4.49 40 at 282 lb. is freaking impressive.

It seems like Downs and Flowers are both explosive smaller receivers. But as Flowers has the really short arms. I caught the tail end of a convo between Chris Brown and some PFF guy (I think) who said that no one in the NFL has ever had a 1000-yard season with a wingspan as small as Flowers. That was concerning, hoping that a guy can buck a trend that goes back to the beginning of these measurements. I've read that Downs is very good in traffic so that seems to be a plus for him (and versus Flowers). Downs sounds like he gives you a lot of what Flowers does, without that concern, and is likely to go later. Is there any reason to strongly consider Flowers over Downs given his very short arms?

What would make you want the Bills to Get Out of Round 1?
Nephilim17 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
A player who makes the offense better in 2023. Ah, misread the title. That's what I want. If no offensive player is left who can make the offense better this year, then I'll take a high two and a high three to get out of the first. -
I would have though after his last performance vs. the Pats that he would have bought some goodwill from everyone. I guess I was wrong. Not saying he's the second coming of Bo Jackson, but I think Hines will be a decent change backup this season. And I bet he'll have a few long runs too.

Edge rushers still available in free agency
Nephilim17 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Playing for 5 different teams since 2019 will make you look old. But regardless of age, that's a huge issue that no one wants him for more than a year. -
Yikes. That's a huge disparity. I'm sure someone will say that we mostly throw to Davis deeper and that explains it but I don't think that's everything. You need your number two to put up better numbers than that.
-
I absolutely agree. Just don't use a 1st on a slot guy. It's nuts that we have Diggs turning 30 this year and no one being groomed to replace him. Maybe Davis was hoped to be that guy, but with a QB like Allen we should be taking a shot every year at a potentially starting outside receiver and hopefully a guy with good traits. I think most people are in agreement we can take a slot guy but not in the first. I think.

Where TF is "The Pill"?
-
Interesting angle. But Shakir could be that guy and had pretty good scouting reports last year. So do we double down and draft someone just for the sake of slot competition with Shakir? Or did the staff suddenly lose faith in him after seeing him every day for a year. I won't be against drafting a slot guy but I hope it's not with the first. Shore up the O-line and draft a slot guy in the third or fourth.

This can only be because they're not sure of Harris' availability. I hope Harris stays healthy for most of the year as I like him a lot.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
In this case we could use the 3rd overall to draft a pass rusher to replace Rousseau and that would mean that Hopkins only costs us two firsts and two seconds! Or we could just wait for the Cards to cut him. -
Does anyone recall McDermott or Beane being asked what the ideal role would be for Bernard? I think a fan base having to speculate on what role a third-round pick could fulfill, if he progresses the way management hopes. If so, someone please share. If not, it's kinda nuts that some significant draft capital was spent and the fan base/journalists don't know exactly why. it's not like this should be pentagon secrets. A decent journalist should ask flat out, "if Bernard becomes the player you hope he will be, will he one day start and in what position?"
