I'm sure your friend is a fine person but I doubt he knows the true crime stats. I've been to DC multiple times with no problems. Last was there for a conference with 20k attendees lodged in hotels all over the city. Ours was about 10 blocks away and we walked to the conference several times. We walked to dinner almost every night. There also were buses available. I didn't hear of any issues. No warnings to stay clear of any areas. His dad was a great human being 😂.
