  1. Nope. As previously noted, per the Bills' weekly releases: Nov. 15 @Tennessee, and Nov. 29 vs. Miami.
  2. Why, yes. Funny you should mention that league... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/078644619...13229280_snp_dp
  3. Valid point. We were looking/hoping for the next Bruce Smith .. and, well, there won't BE another Bruce Smith.
  4. Grrrrrrr... Glad they're not putting the Toronto patch on those purty throwbacks, to be honest. And considering the fact that they're still selling tickets for that game (with no future commitments required, per that e-mail), one wonders how the $78-million cash-in-advance deal is looking to the Rogers side right now.
  5. As a blue-and-white homer, I remain a Maybin fan ... but that's what I said when he decided to declare for the draft. Guess I can't argue with his decision; as the No. 11 pick, his signing bonus alone is more money than I'll see in my lifetime. That said, the Bills could have used a little more instant production from that draft slot, instead of someone who's essentially redshirting this season. Skipping all of training camp didn't exactly help, either.
  6. It does look like they're doing something, based on all the moves they've made in the last 24 hours ... but I don't think it's for Roscoe.
  7. They also just extended Sam Aiken's contract, and think they can turn Julian Edelman into another Welker. Plus, with Belichick's love for versatile players, I don't see him opening a roster spot for a specialist like Parrish.
  8. The reason: the league wanted to make the Legacy Games something special, and they felt that going to the throwbacks for EVERY AFL matchup would diminish that. The Bills have two remaining on the schedule -- Nov. 15 at Tennessee, and home against the Dolphins on Nov. 29. I'm a little surprised the Toronto game isn't on that list, but if they'd declared that the lone "home" throwback game, I would've screamed bloody murder. (Not that they would have listened to me, of course.)
  9. Beat writer speculating that the Jets could ask, which is a far cry from the two teams actually getting a deal done. The actual quote from Cabot's story: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/...trade_dead.html
  10. Not sure how you can accurately judge his demeanor from his quotes; for all we know, where Chuck typed "incredulously," he might have said those few sentences in a "you gotta be bleepin' kidding me" tone. Or not. FWIW, Chuck's story is now online: http://www.oleantimesherald.com/articles/2...84794533525.txt
  11. Yup. I hate to keep droning on about my own experiences, but ... Last week, a couple of kids put up some pretty impressive stats in the game I covered. One was the coach's son, who ran for a buck-eighty ... and said coach, who's a decent quote and no simpleton, didn't have a CLUE he had anywhere near that many yards. Doubt PP had a chance to check the box score before the postgame interviews.
  12. Not to interrupt the (good-natured) snarkfest, my friend, but I'm thinking jw asked this question today at OBD. NYC AP guy (Waszak) would've covered the game. Going back to the original post in this thread, I'll point out something that Mr. Wawrow didn't: by the time you dissect every remotely questionable playcall, the press conference is 30 minutes long -- or it most likely isn't, because Scott Berchtold would have told them "last question" about 20 minutes before that (if not sooner).
  13. Remember, though, what I cited wasn't the quote from the original post. I'll have to see if I can find that one. Okay, here we are: http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2009/10/19/r...-a-near-record/ Similar, but not exact. Wondering if Brown joined the conversation during his answer.
  14. Hahaha. Not exactly. Impressive résumé, though -- another 'Cuse guy, with a bunch of big-time internships...
  15. Only the top 16 make the state playoffs in all of WV? Wow. There are eight Class A playoff berths in our DISTRICT here in PA, and the district champ moves on to states. Similar in NYS -- tons more teams, and sectional/regional/state championships to deal with. I think seven is still too few, though. Our part of PA plays nine or 10. The team I cover started its schedule the same week as NY, but still has two more regular-season games, a week off for the conference championship game (the same weekend as the Section VI championships at RWS), then the opening round of districts (same weekend as the Section V/VI regionals in NY). Orchard Park won its state championship on Nov. 30 last year -- I remember the date because I was at Bills-49ers, ignoring the "action" in front of me to read McShea's liveblog of the Quakers game -- and PA played at least two weeks after that.
  16. Essentially reminding the reader that the quote continues, and obviating the need for repetitive attribution. (In English, not having to type "'blah blah blah,' he said" for every paragraph of a long quote.) And I don't think Poz was trying to softpedal anything, or blow it off as "oh well, other than those two plays ..." Go back to his first reaction to the number 318: "We won the game, but we've got to correct that. We can't continue to do that and expect to win games." He didn't mention the two long runs until after that. JMO.
  17. Copy-editing 101: When a quote continues into the following paragraph, no closing quotation mark is used at the end of the first one. Everything from "We won the game, but ..." to the end of the excerpt is Posluszny's direct quote. I might also note that while Chuck told him the total, PP may not have known the yardage of Jones' two long runs. (I'm assuming Chuck's the one who told him, because he always makes sure he has any significant stats before he leaves the press box. That's a habit I've tried to learn from him, the few times we've covered the same game.)
  18. Thank you ... and you weren't the only one asking that. My reply to Catalana right after it happened: @LoriTBD Same call at the end of Browns MNF game. Didn't work then, either. @MikeCatalana Why didn't the Bills try to get it closer for Lindell?
  19. Not sure where that quote is from. Here's how Chuck Pollock wrote it: (I'll add the link when they put it online.) Sounds a little different in context, no?
  20. They also looked a little better without NINE false starts.
  21. I was thinking Tim had already done a feature on Byrd, but didn't find one on the blog. Tyler Dunne did write a pretty good story on him for the OTH back in June, but yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some attention this week...
