Trying yet again to put to rest the "Bills played against the Colts backups" ... While the Bills were locked into their playoff seed and rested several starters, Indy was still playing for home-field advantage that day -- both they and Jacksonville were 13-2, 9-2 in conference, and unbeaten against common opponents. If both teams won their final game, the tiebreaker would have come down to net points in conference games -- Jax was +81 after 15 games, Indy +67, so the Colts knew they'd need to win by at least two touchdowns more than the Jags did. (This per Lary Bump, in that week's Shout! magazine game preview.) Manning was 18-for-29, Edge James had 18 of the Colts' 19 rushing attempts, and they didn't pull their starters until they were down big and they knew Jacksonville was up 10 on Cincinnati.

Think they might be looking at LB, where now that Ellison's dinged, all three starters plus Buggs have missed time. Can't say the size factor would mean anything in either Poz's or Kawika's case, but it might have in the other two. Suppose one could also argue that the injuries at S stem from run-support issues, but I'd have to go back and look at the specific plays where they happened. Is an intriguing idea, though.

Easier signing autographs this way?

In re: "Redskins aren't getting off the field"... The Washington defense is tied with the Giants for the seventh-FEWEST scrimmage plays faced this season, 482. New England holds the top spot with 468. And you can probably guess who's dead last: Buffalo, with 568. NFL.com

Actually, I'm positive he/she DOESN'T work there. (And before you make a similar accusation, neither do I.)

Howard, Jeremy, and Nick all have accounts here under their own names. I was referring to the "blogging on here defending themselves" line, and I'm reasonably sure none of them are doing that, even under a pseudonym. For one thing, if anyone ever found out that they were, they'd never hear the end of the ridicule. (See: Golden State Warriors front-office guy who got busted doing that last spring.)

CRRRAAAAACCCCCCCCKKKKKK!! That one was still rising as it cleared the fence ...

As I figured (and I'm guessing you did as well) ... apparently not, for a few people.

Same boat, pardner. (Of course, that sentiment brought us the Donahoe Era. Make of that what you will.) BTW, about your "dilemma" ... buy the Sabres tix. Like someone else noted on that thread, cheap (or free) Bills seats are likely to shake loose by then -- in fact, I ended up eating my pair for the Houston game when Mom called that morning and said their extra club seat was available.
-
When have they done that? Can't remember the last time anyone from the station logged in here; it's been a while. BTW, thanks for the info, PTR. It was always fun to listen to Howard's game calls on the radio -- not quite Gus Johnson's ear-splitting level when something happened, but he got pretty close a couple of times.
-
No, it really isn't their job, any more than it's the News' job to cheerlead for the Bills and Sabres. If those teams want advertising, they can pay for it. Just curious, since I don't get Time Warner SportsNet Buffalo out here in the boonies: how many UB games has Simon done for TV this season? I've heard at least one (when I was visiting family up there), and I know that he did the local-access TV broadcasts last year after losing the radio play-by-play gig when they switched from WGR to WECK.

Interesting hypothetical, considering Vinny's single, has never worked in Binghamton, and wasn't out of college long enough to become jaded when that was written. Might want to do a little more research. And when you do, ask the folks at the Times-Union how THEY feel about Brown. Might get some ... interesting ... answers.

Did I say that?

Both of those gentlemen were complete quarterbacks who also happened to be very good runners. Not sure that comparison applies to Vick.
-
Couldn't hurt, right? (Aside: Hope you enjoyed a gorgeous weekend. A mutual friend claims that the Bills' bye is one of his favorite days of the year ...)

FJax comments, from the quote sheet posted yesterday afternoon: More general than Whitner's, with which you're already familiar.
-
To answer your question ... doubtful, but we can always try. (Personally, signing Vick might just push me the last little bit into not renewing for next season, but I'm also not going to tell anyone else how to spend their money.) To the point of the thread, should I take Whitner's and Jackson's comments as merely a thought that the Bills need to add some talent to get better -- try something, anyway -- or as a distinct vote of no confidence in Trent Edwards? They're related, but I'm not entirely sure they're the same thing.

Gotta read what Chuck Pollock had to say about that Levy commercial. Definitely worth a chuckle: http://www.oleantimesherald.com/articles/2...4a636659662.txt

Somebody else say something? No? Must have been imagining things.

Boeheim started as HC in the late '70s and dumped PSU as soon as he could, because he thought Rec Hall was a dump. The Big East snub was in the early '80s. PSU didn't respond by dropping the football home-and-home until the 1991 season. (For the record, I believe JoePa was 21-4 against SU when the series ended.) And you're probably right about the shirt, which is admittedly a little over the top. At least they're using it to raise money for a good cause, I guess ...
-
Of Brown? Excuse me, Coach Will Brown, as his personal Web site reminds one? Hardly. Of 'Cuse? Didn't like the way they dumped the home-and-home w/PSU as soon as Boeheim became the HC, then conspired to keep the Blue and White out of the Big East, but the whompings JoePa has put on their football team through the years took care of that payback. Nowadays, I know and respect too many Newhouse people -- including the outstanding writer whose Bills blog posts grace our front page -- to get overly malicious, but I have to admit I chuckled when I saw the LeMoyne score. Think I should get the t-shirt?

I still want to see the Jauron one ... DJ: hard to win in the NFL ... wish we were undefeated, but we're not ... (CUT TO: wide shot of media room, and a bevy of beat writers struggling to stay awake.) DJ: drone ... drone ... (*THUD* as Sully's head hits his laptop keyboard.) DJ: et cetera ... et cetera (Snoring.) DJ (aside to Russ Brandon as he tiptoes out of the room): "Works every time."
-
Think y'all know, or can tell, that I'm no 'Cuse fan ... but any time ANYONE puts a smackdown on that smug SOB Coach Will Brown, it's a good night. So, well done.

Please tell me we have learned our lesson with a QBs origins. After three Cali Qbs in the last few years I doubt we go get some french dude. Okay, even if St. Pierre is actually from Massachusetts, that one made me laugh.
