  1. Submitted for your consideration: http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/coach-sea...op-ruins-lives/ http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/ind...p?topic=74890.0 http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2009_12_01...119063071457519
  2. Yup. Just look at the Bills-Colts injury report, which included both of Indy's starting tackles and their top three DEs. Who's going to decide whether or not they're too hurt to play? Same deal with Brady spending all those years listed as "probable (shoulder)." And we'll see whether or not Welker's blown-out knee, in a game they didn't need, changes anyone's opinion. Guarantee Polian mentions it at some point in the next couple of weeks...
  3. http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns...ory/911447.html Have at it, folks.
  4. Considering that they're in the playoffs if the Bengals win tonight despite losing Daniels for the season and finding out their best RB couldn't hold onto the football, it would be tough to fire him right now.
  5. Most likely this ... and I also believe he's going to give props to the loyal Bills fans who sit through weather like today's despite the too-often-inferior product the team has put on the field of late, and assert that it's time for the franchise to give them something better to watch. Just a guess.
  6. Simple answer to the original post: watch the wind/snow blow attempted passes sideways in today's game. Then think about a Martz offense trying to operate in those conditions. Next question.
  7. Thanks; me too. Speaking of which, how's your knee?
  8. Let's see ... your opinion, vs. a national panel of SIDs. Oh, and the folks who hand out the Campbell Trophy, too. Funny thing is, I don't like the Christian Coalition types knocking on my door any more than you do. I just happen to think you're off base on the not-too-bright thing, especially when there's evidence to the contrary.
  9. Three-time Academic All-American. From the CoSIDA release: I interviewed a local guy who didn't make the national team despite carrying a 3.80 GPA at MIT. So, yeah, might want to reconsider the "not too bright" assertion.
  10. http://www.twobillsdrive.com/buffalo-bills/game-day/1170/ Otherwise known as Game 2, 2010 preseason. NOTE to my fellow Lot 1/Pole 5 revelers: you'll have to carry on without me this week. Have a frozen beer for me, if you would, while I sit at home chugging various cough/cold/etc. remedies instead ...
  11. Hmmm. Dueling affadavits: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...s.3c1e5b98.html
  12. $$$$$. Contentious contract negotiations last year, and he's never exactly been one to discourage having his name linked to openings at the big-name schools. Some in the TTU administration didn't care for that. Doesn't have anything to do with the details of this incident, but as previously noted by others here, if someone was already looking for an excuse to run him off ...
  13. Not sure they ever officially announced it. Remember discussing it with Wawrow when the COO/GM title appeared in a release from the team, and neither one of us could recall seeing it before then ... Add: okay, sometime before April 2009, but I don't see a separate release to announce it. Here's the one from the pre-draft luncheon: "The Buffalo Bills will host their annual Pre-Draft Luncheon on Wednesday, April 15, 2008 (sic) at noon in the Bills Media Room. Bills Chief Operating Officer/General Manager Russ Brandon and Vice President of College Scouting Tom Modrak will be available to answer questions about the upcoming NFL Draft."
  14. FWIW, this is a cut/paste from Brandon's bio in the 2009 media guide:
  15. Media witchhunt? The school suspended him before anything ever got out into the press.
  16. Valid point. I know Sal M's been beating that drum for a long time (along with many here), and tying it to the injury situation -- 250-lb DEs and 220-lb LBs just don't hold up against the behemoths on most OLs these days. Hard to argue against that point. In fact, I just pulled some IR numbers in response to a question posted on Tim's Facebook page. (Another one gone today, 21 for the season.) During 2002-03, Rusty Jones' final two years here, the Bills placed six players on IR each season. What percentage of that was his influence, and how much was the different defensive scheme (in particular, sturdier LBs like Fletcher and Spikes)? I wonder ...
  17. You do realize you're talking to one of the biggest WNSA homers on here, don't you? One who spent the entire run of Simon+Brinson/the Simoncast actively promoting the show at the expense of WGR? Or maybe you don't, so I'll clarify: I listen to some of the hosts (mostly Howard and Nick) on GR. Others (including Schopp), not so much. But it never ceases to amuse me when someone starts an anti-Schopp thread here by ranting about something he said, when the answer -- find something else to listen to -- would seem to be so obvious.
  18. No. The mere thought that Guy was a finalist for the GM job frightens me, though.
  19. Rivera's also currently running the 3-4, played in the 46, and coached with Jim Johnson in Philly, so what makes you think he'd keep the T2?
  20. A necessity, IF they wanted to interview anyone from the top four playoff teams next week. Didn't think I needed to spell that out again.
  21. Heh. Guessing his bags are already packed, and he's praying his Sunday-night/Monday-morning flight back to the land of above-freezing temperatures isn't snowed out ...
  22. But unless those rules have changed, they can interview him next week, because the Chargers have a bye... which makes getting a GM in place THIS week a necessity.
  23. Didn't "know," but started suspecting based on the results -- and the timing -- of the GM announcement. I just hope that the "rumors" floating around didn't begin with my posts here or the e-mail I sent to Riter (which he mentioned at the end of his show) on Thursday. I will point out, though, that there isn't as much overlap between Rivera and Nix as one might think. Nix retired following the 2008 draft; the Chargers didn't promote Rivera to DC until the middle of the following season.
