  1. Does that have to be an either/or answer?
  2. Peace Bridge II: We WILL build it ... someday ... maybe ... Couple of those are workable. Hey, maybe you should consider writing for a living. (Re:GW, over on Sal M's Facebook page, someone you might know replied to his tweet about Bruce Dehaven with something along the lines of, "Good that he's back, and good that Gregg Williams isn't.")
  3. Sir, yes, SIR! Damn. Where's that "saluting" smiley?
  4. Who drafted Hines Ward? I'd rank him ahead of either WR you named. They let Porter walk to make room in the lineup for James Harrison, who repaid them with two All-Pro seasons and a DPOY nod. Oh, and they just locked Heath Miller up with a six-year, $35-million contract.
  5. Eh, we trashed Greggg Williams for a "cold Buffalo" comment a few days ago, so this is just equal-opportunity smiting. I was far more entertained by the columnist, especially after discovering that his hometown's claim to fame is the North Carolina Apple Festival. They apparently even put it on the "Welcome to Henderson County" signs. How can Buffalo hope to compare?
  6. Actually, they DO re-sign many of their FAs. Knowing when to let 'em walk -- and when not to -- is a skill, hopefully one Whaley can bring north with him. I like the way Mark Gaughan put it:
  7. One of my favorite Ellison stories ever. Pictures aren't bad, either.
  8. Did you hear Diamond's Christmas song with all the names of his other songs in the lyrics? Funniest/most awful thing I've ever heard. The guys on GR were pranking people with it; Sullivan laughed so hard I thought he was going to pass out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJiCFE3EFF4
  9. True dat. You want a "dis"? THIS is a dis, in two parts. Twentysomething sportswriter who admits he's never been to Buffalo breaks out the tried-and-true "nothing to do there but eat chicken wings" line, then follows up with a second snarky column after WGRZ sics its viewers on him: Gailey hiring pushes the limit for Bills' fans To the city of Buffalo: My bad This is why most twentysomething sportswriters don't get their own column.
  10. Up to 11 pages now, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing ...
  11. Sorry, I thought this was about Green Day? (shakes head and slowly backs away from thread-turned-crusade)
  12. Update: Bouchette confirms that Whaley has, in fact, accepted the job. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10034/1033296-100.stm
  13. [This is an automated response] This subject matter is being currently being discussed or has already been discussed in a previous thread. Please consider using the "search" function before starting new topics. Thank you.
  14. Nothing's ever official until the Bills announce it. Keeping that in mind, I'd say the chances of this happening are pretty good.
  15. That's from this year's media guide, fresh off the Steelers website. But you missed the first reference: Whaley worked as a scouting assistant for the club in 1995, when Gailey was their WRs coach.
  16. No link (yet), but I feel safe trusting this source.
  17. I should add that I'm not discounting the possibility that Cowher suggested him. Just wanted to see if he overlapped with Gailey -- and since he did, Nix could also turn to CG for an opinion on him. Add: Should also note the same for Modrak, who was the Steelers' director of college scouting during Whaley's first stint there.
  18. Whaley first worked for the Steelers while Gailey was still there. His media guide bio: Simon, you've got more of an "in" with the Stillers than I do. What else can you tell us about him?
  19. Interesting. Bringing in a thirtysomething to work with Nix helps curb the "Sunshine Boys" jokes. Thumbs up for the WPIAL link, as well: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_479973.html And one more very important (to me) note: longtime Pittsburgh PP-G Steelers guy Ed Bouchette has good things to say about him. Bouchette's been covering that team since the Steel Curtain days. Man knows his stuff.
  20. Or, a guy whose job is to report on the AFC East finally got a chance to talk to someone who Ralph Wilson himself confirmed the Bills were interested in hiring, someone who hadn't been willing to comment on the record until now. Yeah, old news, never mind.
  21. Doubtful. Think they'll consider the Jets' action, along with the quick apology, sufficient.
  22. He probably wouldn't have been at an MMA event on the Saturday night before a game if it was during the season, now would he?
  23. It was initially reported because it was newsworthy: a representative of the league not exactly using the best judgment. And with a PICTURE!! Most sportstalkers don't work Sundays, so they addressed it yesterday. Ditto for the few columnists who bothered to write anything. But to think that it would still be a topic, if not for Media Day? I strongly disagree. In fact, a quick check of the two sportswriting boards in my bookmarks shows a collective disinterest: one discussion morphed into a Henne-vs-Sanchez debate, and a Bryan Cox wisecrack (from me) was the only reply in the thread at my current hangout. Combined outrage: zero.
