  1. Straub still does that. Of course, you have to be able to find St. Marys first...
  2. For the record, Mr. Borges has been notified of that discrepancy. In his response, he attributes same to "poorly wording what I was saying." (Doesn't quite compute, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. This time, anyway. ) He also wishes us well with Jauron, a native New Englander: "He's a great guy and, I think, a pretty good coach."
  3. Thanks, KTD. Glad it wasn't just me thinking, "... Ryan Sims? Did he get good all of a sudden?"
  4. I've thumbed through a few issues of ESPN:Mag. Haven't seen anything yet that would make me even consider subscribing. The Sporting News has fallen far since I began subscribing in 1989. Used to be I'd read S.I. for the features, then get the NEWS from TSN. No more - by pandering to the masses with glossy paper, more photos and dumbed-down content, it's become a pale shadow of what it once was. I'm seriously considering letting my sub lapse. S.I.: as previously noted, it consistently boasts some of the finest sportswriting in the country. I couldn't care less about baseball... unless I see Tom Verducci's name on the byline. Ditto for Jack McCallum and the NBA, and I'll read just about anything written by Gary Smith or S.L. Price. Can't pass up Dr. Z, of course. And while he still drives me to distraction at least three or four times a year, there's a valid reason Rick Reilly has collected all those Sportswriter of the Year awards -- he really is that good. (Except when I disagree with him. Then, he sucks swamp water.) When their renewal form shows up in the mailbox, I automatically check off the 3-year box and send it back, no questions asked. Bills Digest: Makes me miss Shout!. I agree with most of Chris Brown's op-ed pieces, and you're not going to find some of the "insider" features anywhere on the Web. (The "war room" on draft day, the locker room during halftime, etc.) Funny, though, that the "Letters to the Editor" section suddenly vanished last year... and I also get the impression there was a lot Brown *couldn't* say. I'll be interested to see how the mag changes, now that One Bills Drive is under new management. My sub runs through October of '07 (I had JUST re-upped with Shout! for the max, an issue or two before the change), so I've got plenty of time to decide whether to keep it.
  5. Merry Birthday, Rich! I too shall raise a glass in your honor. Hmmm... wonder if there's any Winter Lager left in the fridge?
  6. As for me, I'm just standing back in amazement (or is that amusement?). Like one of my favorite movie quotes goes: "This just keeps getting better and better..."
  7. Wait until... oh, maybe midnight on March 2nd before you start to worry. I work in a union shop; our last three contract negotiations have all gone past the deadline. Nothing out of the ordinary...
  8. Agreed. TD had a legitimate beef; I just think he took his retaliation a little too far...
  9. Did they ever stop to think that the D-Rays, Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Royals aren't drawing fans because those teams STINK, not because they're in an oversold area? Sabres didn't draw when they were lousy. They're good this season, and they've sold out nine of the last twelve. Coincidence? Think not.
  10. They had their chance to pick a top 10 goalie, and didn't. I'll still cheer for our red, white, and blue, but with the goalies they DID take, I'm not expecting much...
  11. You know that was true, right? Schopp wouldn't admit the reason behind it, of course, but Tom Donahoe DID lock out GR -- including Simon, who wasn't even working there yet when the spit hit the fan. This, from Chuck Pollock a month or so ago: Between the two of them, I'm betting Levy and Simon can finally inject some sanity back into the OneBillsDrive-WGR relationship... even if certain afternoon hosts continue to make fools of themselves.
  12. Well, I see your first problem right there...
  13. Do a search on Warroad and include the surname "Christian". You'll find players by that name on both the 1960 and 1980 USA gold-medal teams, as well as the Warroad H.S. team mentioned above. That corner of Minnesota is fairly well-known for its hockey...
  14. One more thing to mention here. Everyone does remember that Roaf missed six games (including the one vs. Buffalo) with a hamstring injury in 2005, correct? Make that Jordan Black at LT.
  15. Blew an ACL in the first game of his second NFL season. That seems to be a habit among PSU backs... one I hope LJ doesn't emulate, since I'll be protecting him in our FFL draft this summer.
  16. Depends on the criteria for "top-notch", I guess. Can't match USC's Heisman backfield from the '70s, or the Thurman Thomas/Barry Sanders tandem at Okie State. There have been a few pretty good ones, although L.J. is the only one to ever top 2K in a season. Some PSU RB history from the last 30 years or so (but be warned, I'm not looking it up, so some dates might be off...) Canton-ese: Lenny Moore, Franco Harris Heisman Trophy winners (1): John Cappelletti, 1973. Think Cappy and Lydell Mitchell are the only "modern-era" Nittany Lion RBs in the College HOF, but I'm not positive about that. They were All-Americans, along with Curt Warner... ...and the following injury-prone first-round picks (it pains me to call them "busts"): Blair Thomas, Ki-Jana Carter, Curtis Enis. The Bills' Booker Moore is a special case; thanks to Guillain-Barre (sp?) syndrome, we'll never know how good he could have been. And then there's D.J. Dozier. Got the idea he always liked baseball better, although he didn't go anywhere in the pros in either sport. Can't end this without a shoutout to a top-notch FB, Sam Gash...
  17. And Willis had how many 2,000-yard seasons in college?
  18. re: McGahee, learning how to stiff-arm? Funny, I thought he was already pretty darn good at doing that.
  19. Without Center Ice, the only time I get to see our Habs are when they play either Buffalo (MSG Buffalo feed) or Pittsburgh (FoxSportsPittsburgh). Maybe that's a good thing right about now. Ah well, at least the Sabres are a fun team to watch. Never hated them the way I did the rest of the Adams Division...
  20. I wouldn't quite go that far -- we didn't lose Bruuuce until 2000. Since then, though...
  21. Yes. We had dibs for the DCI (Drum Corps International) World Championships when they were last held at the Ralph... 2003, I think? Not sure quite how that works, since we're in the Kelly Club and they didn't open up the away side of the stadium. I do know that the DCI website couldn't even take orders for those seats until after the Bills suite/clubseat owners had a chance to order them, though...
