  1. Just out of curiosity, who do you see out there that would be an upgrade from the current 53-man roster? And who would you cut to make room for them? WRT waiver awards, note the most active teams (Texans, Saints, Titans). Think it's mere coincidence those were also the top three teams picking in this year's draft? Anyone Houston puts in a claim for, they automatically get, and so on, and so on. It's entirely possible the Bills put in claims on a few of those players -- we'll never know unless someone at OBD tells us -- but anyone of value isn't going to drop past the bottom five teams anyway. (I wouldn't have minded seeing them take a flyer on Michael Haynes or Rob Petitti, for example... but once New Orleans faxed in their paperwork, the Bills didn't even have a chance at them.) As for the practice squad: except for Leak, Buffalo has an entire training camp/preseason's worth of tape on the players they re-signed. Again, unless it appears to be a significant upgrade, they're more likely to keep the players the coaching staff is already familiar with. JMO.
  2. Solid list. I'm not sure they keep the fourth DE, though... a sentiment echoed in Chris Brown's latest blog entry. That might give one of the other WRs a job. And if it's between Wire and Baker for the last safety slot, no coin flip necessary. JMO...
  3. Upon first glance, I assumed it was a (poorly written) letter to the editor. Close enough...
  4. "In his day" was a long time ago; he's got a total of one sack in the past two seasons. The Pats are paper-thin at LB, but still saw no reason to keep Brown around. Not a good sign.
  5. With regards to Charles Rogers: he has an injury history (and is dinged again this preseason), AND a four-game drug suspension on his record, AND (reportedly) an attitude problem. In their 2006 Pro Football Prospectus, Michael David Smith of FootballOutsiders.com makes the case that Rogers "could be the biggest wide receiver bust in the history of the NFL draft." No thanks.
  6. Bethel is long gone, to the Saints for DT Johnathan Sullivan (another high-round bust). Hey HD, any surprise at the Beisel/Chad Brown cuts? Me neither. Makes for an interesting depth chart at LB, though. Apparently that Midas touch with FA signees isn't 100% effective after all...
  7. Update on this: the NYSP has a presser on the air right now, and apparently the early reports of a fatality were premature. One trooper at Hamot (in Erie PA), one at ECMC, both in rough shape... but at least they're both still alive. They can't confirm it was Phillips, but he's the #1 suspect. Calling it an ambush. (F&*#er shot one of them in the leg, the other one in the back, most likely with a high-powered rifle that penetrated the one trooper's vest.)
  8. Somewhere, Peyton Manning is giggling like a schoolgirl...
  9. Hey, I'm still trying to figure out how he made it LAST year.
  10. But can you see where someone who has to deal with Downs every day of their life might not share your "sense of humor" regarding that particular topic? Just sayin'. Probably a good idea to end this here.
  11. I think you answered your own question, bluv.
  12. He returned one last week. 46 yards. That's all I needed to see till the opener.
  13. Woooohooooooooo. Not so fast - Nall 70-yard TD to Andre' Davis!
  14. From Amherst: TOUCHDOWN. Bulls win, 9-3 in OT, before a record crowd at UB Stadium. And they're storming the field. Gotta love college kids.
  15. On Detroit's side, Orlovsky hasn't looked good. Especially on that sack by Odom. ADD: Hanson's longest FG of the preseason.
  16. OK Craig, who was that supposed to be aimed at? Fugly.
  17. One more reason not to play starters in the preseason...
  18. Detroit drafted behind Buffalo last April, correct? I'll take whatever I can at this point...
  19. Around the league: Drew Bledsoe left the Dallas game in the second quarter; didn't see the hit, but it looked like they were doing the "how many fingers am I holding up?" test. From Amherst: Temple first-and-goal at the three; UB defense holds. Temple kicks the FG to tie, 1:44 left in the game.
  20. Not yet. Losman was bad last year, and Marv is old. That's the general consensus from the national media.
  21. UB 3, Temple 0. 7:38 to go. Looks like the Bulls are outplaying them, but the UB kicker missed his first two FG attempts before finally getting one through the uprights.
