  1. Spoken by someone who apparently didn't see any Bills games after last Nov. 1st. If Losman - whose 13 TD passes and 90.0 rating helped a young team compile a 5-4 record after the bye-week offensive overhaul - is "not the answer", then Robert Davis is asking the wrong question. Then again, he also has the Vikings passing up badly-needed help at WR to select the second-best left tackle in the draft (and pay him top-ten $$$) to upgrade the RIGHT side of their offensive line... Even better. Wasn't aware the seventh-ranked pass defense (#3 in passing yds/attempt), one of just five teams that didn't allow a single 300-yard game against them in 2006, needed improvement at free safety. But yeah, even though they "could use a defensive lineman especially" and one who happens to fit the Tampa-2 scheme perfectly is still on this draft board, the Bills will use the pick to replace their highest-drafted FS in over twenty years after just one season. Guess Dietzler disagrees with Dick Jauron about the performance of the Bills' rookie safeties: 'They've done a real nice job,' coach Dick Jauron said. 'We thought Ko would have a little bit of time to gain some comfort, but it didn't work out that way. ... It turns out it should be good for them in the long run.' Lord, save us from know-nothing draftniks.....
  2. Texas A+M trademarked "12th Man", and sued the Seattle Seahawks for using it.
  3. As any Stanford or Cal fan could tell you, "The Big Game" is already taken...
  4. Catholicism. (Hey, some wise*** had to say it, might as well be me...)
  5. You, sir, appear to need a history lesson about the pre-Super-Bowl-era NFL/AFL. Hall of Famer Billy Shaw worked construction during the offseason; think he did that just for the hell of it? Hardly. If your name wasn't Joe Namath, you had to have an offseason job to make ends meet. This isn't the Jim Kellys of the world we're talking about here; it's guys like John Mackey, whose wife had to go back to work in her 60s after he started showing signs of Alzheimer's. Or Conrad Dobler, who's about to lose his house because of his wife's medical bills and needs a knee replacement of his own... but can't get a payout from the league's disability fund. Check out the first link, and read about Brent Boyd: the board that administers said disability fund sent him to three different doctors before they finally found one who denied Boyd's claim. http://nflretirees.blogspot.com/ http://www.blackathlete.com/artman/publish...cle_02812.shtml http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/co...D6?OpenDocument http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/col/stor...3p-413112c.html Already have. Thanks for asking. And if anyone else is so inclined, here's the address: Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund
  6. Correct. In the nine games following the bye, the Bills defense had as many INTs as TD passes allowed (eight), and Tennessee's Brandon Jones was the only WR to post a 100-yard game. And, of course, most of Jones' catches came on Vince Young scrambles that helped break down the coverage...
  7. Preee-cisely. More time on I.R. than Villarrial.
  8. Take that as a compliment. No, seriously. Most of the threads that get the hits/responses have either a debatable point or a "your an idiot" component to them. On the other hand, a well-reasoned and coherently presented post is more likely to have people read it, agree with it, but quietly move on without posting a response...
  9. According to Bills Daily's cap page, releasing Spikes would mean $3mill in dead money, but also save $3mill.
  10. Flashbacks to McGee vs. Roy Williams. Ooh, the pain... As I've said before: I've resigned myself to seeing Clements in a different team's uniform next year, but that doesn't mean I like the idea.
  11. Some data from the franchise/transition tag numbers, which list the top 10 contracts at each position... Pats: Tom Brady - #1 QB, highest-paid player in league ($13,823,750) Richard Seymour - #3 DL Rosevelt Colvin - #9 LB Also, Samuel's franchise tender would instantly vault him to #3 on the CB list if/when he signs it. Bills: Clements - #4 CB Spikes - #5 LB And from the "Believe It Or Not" department, Dewayne Robertson is the highest-salaried DT at $9,417,760. Good job, Jets...
  12. Assuming Crowell moves into the middle to replace LF-B and Ellison retains the starting WLB job, I'd rather see 80-90% of Spikes at SLB than 100% of anyone else currently on the roster.
  13. Ah, yes -- an oldie, but a goodie. Think you can find it in one of these fun little books: Games For The Superintelligent / More Games For The Superintelligent
  14. Frightening thought: you might be the closest to reality on this thread...
  15. Spikes turned 30 in December. That's a year and a half younger than Fletcher. Adalius Thomas, everybody's big-name free agent LB, turns 30 this August. Old?
  16. Lots of love from the fans on the Chargers.com board... "Congratulations Dean and AJ.....for making the worst decision possible for our head coach. For all you Marty haters, you ain't seen nothing yet. Wait til good ol' Norv gets under your skin.....it's gonna be a long year." "Please tell me it's April fool's day?" "great upgrade. I'm now convinced that the team is run by morons." "What in the HELL do AJ and Dean see in Norv Turner that we don't???????" "Excuse me whilie I go vomit."
  17. I think the fact that two free safeties rank #2 (Tony Greene) and #3 (Mark Kelso) on the team's all-time INTs list, while the top SS (Steve Freeman, who once held the franchise record for games played) just barely makes the list tied for seventh place, reinforces my opinion that interceptions are a bad way to compare players at two different positions. But that's just me... Bills all-time leaders in interceptions: 40 George "Butch" Byrd, CB 37 Tony Greene, CB/FS 30 Mark Kelso, FS 28 Charles Romes, CB 26 Nate Odomes, CB 25 Mario Clark, CB 23 Booker Edgerson, CB 23 Steve Freeman, SS 23 Nate Clements, CB 18 Kurt Schulz, FS 16 Henry Jones, SS
  18. Actually, George Pataki did, when the new lease was signed: ''I can think of no better way to show our appreciation to the man who brought the National Football League to western New York, and kept it here.''
  19. Thank you for interjecting some reality into this discussion...
  20. No, it wouldn't. I suggest you try a remedial course in Journalism 101. If Sully is your role model, I can understand why you so easily dismiss the opinion of someone who's actually, you know, covered the team for the last thirty years or so. Pollock writes the good and the bad... but I guess you wouldn't know that, if you rely solely on Sullivan and the News for your information. Your loss.
  21. Nothing definite yet; Jay Glazer is speculating, based on his "sources". He could be right -- and as I said last week, a Turner/Cottrell combo wouldn't shock me -- but he's been wrong before, too... http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6485122
