  1. Thanks, Jack. And thank you, Jay, for your years of tireless service in this cause...
  2. Y'all don't remember Rick Freaking Mirer beating Kelly and crew a few years back? The same team ruining Kelly's Wall of Fame day with another win in 2001? The 56-17 beatdown in their first meeting in 1977, when Jim Zorn threw four TD passes and O.J. Simpson's season-ending knee injury meant he'd never play another game for the Bills? In Relentless, Sal Maiorana called that game "perhaps the most embarrassing loss in team history." Can't find anything to get fired up about? You people just need to work on your hate, is all.
  3. And in 2004, the Bills traveled to Oakland, Seattle, and San Fran, while the Pats got Seattle and San Fran at home (with their longest trips to Arizona and St. Louis). Notice a trend here? Their turn. Too bad.
  4. Last home Miami game I didn't attend, Marino was still their QB. You?
  5. She doesn't bake cookies, remember? None of that Tammy Wynette "stand by your man" B.S., either...
  6. Not our family. We got out of that habit when we left New York. That's not a joke, by the way. Indeed, it was more common than one might think, up through the middle of the nineteenth century. All those fine, upstanding "Mayflower families"? First cousins galore.
  7. Normally the middle of May. (Checking -- last year, Jay bought the tickets for the opener on the 19th.) Can't get the better sideline seats; we're normally restricted to endzone/upper-deck corners. But if you want to make sure you have a ticket, it's your best option.
  8. Chris Brown has a good reminder... For those of you who will be looking for tix to this game, do NOT wait until single-game seats go on sale. My suggestion: make a deal with someone who has seasons -- we can buy extras before group sales begin.
  9. Knew you wouldn't take the Miami game well...
  10. Bill, we already knew the date within a couple of weeks; it was always going to be after the Grey Cup, which falls the Sunday before Thanksgiving this season. We didn't know it was going to be a divisional game, one against a long-hated rival that has a recent tradition of curling up and dying in the snows of Rich/Ralph Wilson Stadium. Someone above mentioned San Fran, and how they wouldn't be back for eight more years. My thoughts? I wouldn't lose sleep over NOT seeing Alex Smith, Frank Gore, and an aging Isaac Bruce. Not like the last time they were here, the only game I ever got to see Steve Young play. Same with Seattle: they're worlds better than the Fins, but that was the game I hoped would be picked, because I don't have feelings one way or the other about that team. Those out-of-town fans don't normally come "home" for games against Seattle and San Fran, unless there are other things going on. (Family, for example.) On the other hand, Lot 1 is like a family reunion for the Miami game. So, yeah, this stings a little.
  11. You, of course, are at the top of the list. Written in ink. And I'll have you know that I took the Christmas tree down before the end of February this year. Them, and worse. Don't forget the plywood cutouts painted to look like Aunt Fanny's oversized... fanny, bending over in the garden...
  12. Winner. This is from Dallas: New York: A million bucks? That's ten times what they can get at RWS (if not more), and that has far more to do with the lack of Fortune 500 companies in WNY than the team Ralph puts on the field. The Bills could win the next five Super Bowls in a row and still not get any takers at that price.
  13. Hmmm. If they're ACTUALLY burning their tickets (which you and I both know we won't even receive until July/August), wonder if there's any way we can get those seats?
  14. I've lived here for almost 40 years, and I have yet to see a "10 commandment sign" on anyone's lawn. Have seen a few Confederate flags, though; I think they come free with the NASCAR license plates. Sketch, you just made my list.
  15. For those saying the Miami rivalry has cooled, have any of you (besides PTR) been in the parking lot at a Bills-Dolphins game lately? I'm not thrilled about the move, but I'm not digging the torches and pitchforks out of storage. Besides, I'll probably be at that game anyway...
  16. 'Zactly. Not their fault the rest of the division sucked last year... Not happy with sending Miami north. There are a LOT of people who make that their one game in Buffalo every year. I was hoping for Seattle instead, but they picked the only other way to sell that game out by making it the opener. No back-to-back home games unless you count Toronto. Interesting. That means no three-game road stretches, either, which is a very good thing. San Diego (past practice) and San Fran (after Thanksgiving) look like the only potential non-sellouts, but with the supposedly high season-ticket renewal rate, I'm guessing we'll be all right. Could do without the long back-to-back roadies in STL and AZ; the bye falls at a good time after the latter game. Looks like I'm not going to Denver, though, with it falling that close to Christmas. Dammit. That was my #1 choice for a road trip this year. Overall, personal gripes aside, not a bad schedule. Not bad at all.
  17. Funny thing is, Schopp wrote for Shout! once upon a time. I'd have to dig into the archives to check, but I'm pretty sure he did their gamers for a couple of years while he was in college...
  18. turk, here's a little insight on the Donahoe-vs-WGR cold war. Plenty of blame for both sides, but yes, the afternoon crew was involved: Olean Times Herald, Jan. 5, 2006: Bills had no choice but to let Donahue go Sorry about the formatting; this ran as a column. I can confirm the part about TD freezing them out of player interviews -- that came first-hand from a GR employee, one who had absolutely nothing to do with the Vincent/Losman episode.
  19. Read the original post. He's talking about programming against Schopp.
  20. Simon was an everyday must-listen when he went head-to-head against Schopp, and as I recall, he was happy to get away from the morning shift when Mike jumped to GR. That said, although Dick Greene did have a business relationship with Howard when he was simulcasting (Simoncasting?) on WLVL, there's absolutely no chance Greene could make it worth his while to leave Entercom. Same for Williams -- they both have families to feed, you know. Find some young, preferably single up-and-comer who'd be willing to take a subsistence-level paycheck in return for airtime, and you might have something.
