  1. Bills haven't lost to the Cardinals since they played in St. Louis. Tell me why this time will be any different.
  2. Really? That's big. Congrats on that, Brad, even if I did enjoy Howard's play-by-play. Thumbs up on the webcast, too. I can fix the title, but then the Promo-bashing earlier in the thread won't make sense. Decisions, decisions...
  3. Raiders and Rams moves were different situations. According to Tom Friend (now a senior writer for ESPN:magazine), once upon a time, before they left for Anaheim, traded Eric Dickerson, and generally ran the franchise into the ditch, people actually cared about the Rams. New York Times, Dec. 22, 1994: A Farewell to Tinsel Town Oh, and she flirted with Baltimore before ending up in St. Louis. But then, Georgia always did know how to flirt ...
  4. Won't be anything unusual; the Steelers and Packers played there last season.
  5. Remember the movie "Major League"? To some people, that's what Georgia Frontiere did to the Rams to get them out of their stadium lease in Anaheim, because St. Louis was offering her a truckload of money. I still maintain that the vast majority of Angelinos aren't interested in getting a team back, but for the ones who are, the return of the Rams would probably be their preferred option. As for their support in St. Louis, three games were blacked out last season in the 66,000-seat Edward Jones Dome. Twenty-five year lease with exclusive rights that specifically forbid an NFL team from playing there. And neither the Coliseum nor the Rose Bowl have anywhere near the premium-seating capability sought in today's NFL.
  6. Love me some Google cache. Let's hope he DOES use this as a learning experience. Take your medicine, move on, and get better, Mr. Seth. And tone down the attitude, because there's a kid who thinks he's going to be the next Rick Reilly in every J-school on the continent.
  7. He's working on it, but he'll have to convince management that the cost-benefit numbers add up in their favor. We pounded GR with e-mails for probably two years before the Entercom "suits" finally caved in -- and that was with their PD, Andy Roth, also pushing for it to happen. In the meantime, Brad is putting podcasts on both "Brad's Sports Bar" (on the WECK site) and his own blog, BuffaloMainEvent. Also, for those of you in the Northtowns, Brad's show is now simulcasting on WLVL 1340 (Lockport). Yes, this is the same station that picked up the Simoncast after WNSA shut down. Kudos to Dick Greene for continuing to believe in "local" radio.
  8. Rebroadcast on ESPN2, May 20th. Check your local listings.
  9. Throwing a desker under the bus? My opinion of you just dropped even more. He changed essentially EVERY fact in your piece, yet ran it under your byline? Of course, that happens all the time. You know what they say about the word "assume," right? There are working journalists and published authors on this board, including a Nebula Award winner. "Fair" thee well, Mr. Seth. And don't neglect your studies. P.S.: Western is better.
  10. Uh ... FOUR. They already had three (1992-3, 1996). Haven't been to a game since they played in the Aud, but I think I still have a couple of championship-season T-shirts around here somewhere ...
  11. Surprised? Not me. When he's on his game, Ryan is the best of the best. Great column.
  12. Thanks for wasting two minutes of my life. No, wait. That should have been aimed at the author of that tripe. From the subhed: "Ralph Wilson wants to get rid of his Buffalo bills soon. Will Toronto be the victor in the bid for an NFL team?" Immediately contradicted in the lede with, "Eighty-nine-year-old Buffalo Bills owner, Ralph Wilson, has stated that he does not want to sell his team until he passes, declaring that inheritance and estate taxes are simply too much for him to deal with." Further: "almost 50% of their ticket sales coming from southern Ontario." False. Next time, make a phone call or two and find out the REAL number. (FYI, according to Business First writer Rick Maloney, southern Ontario accounts for roughly 10% of season ticket sales. Last year, that would have meant approximately 4,800 seats. Be generous and add 10,000 of the roughly 25,000 single-game tickets available for each game last season, and you still barely get 20% of the stadium's total seating.) More: "Wilson has been trying to convince the state and Erie County (the location of the Bills’ arena, Ralph Wilson Stadium) to help him build a new venue for nearly ten years, which hasn’t seen much progress." Untrue. Wilson no longer believes a new stadium will make a difference in the team's situation. This has been noted in multiple stories by the local beat writers. "He recently signed a deal with the city of Toronto which would see his Bills play a pre-season game here in 2008, and at least one regular season game in 2009." Wrong, and wrong. The deal is with Ted Rogers and Larry Tanenbaum, not the city. The schedule -- one preseason game in 2008, 2010, and 2012, and one regular-season game in each of the next five years -- has been out for some time. Quoting sportstalk hosts for expert analysis: sometimes a good idea, sometimes not. "Also, there are already two teams in California, the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers, both of whom are fairing dismally." Fer crissakes. THREE teams in California. San Diego Chargers, anyone? And it's "faring." Study harder, Mr. Seth.
  13. Live on WGR, if anyone's interested...
  14. You don't remember that? The 1998 Jags game in Buffalo, the one Flutie won with the last-play bootleg. Can't remember whether RJ was watching the Jax offense's signals or merely recognized their personnel groupings/formations, but he was yelling out play calls while they were on the field.
  15. Sorry, Heitz, but for that word to be printed in quotes, it's because someone is being quoted. In this case, it's the supposed team insider, not the author. As for "they" instead of "we," it's a safe bet the insider is a member of the local media. Whether or not that fits your definition of what an insider SHOULD be, you'll have to decide.
  16. Port Allegany, actually. We've subscribed to the OTH, but not the Era, for as long as I can remember. And to my everlasting good fortune, longtime sports editor and Bills beat writer Chuck Pollock (the guy responsible for just about all of those quotes) has graciously taken time out of his busy schedule to help me improve my own writing. So don't expect me to stop linking his stories any time soon.
  17. That's the point. When the new CBA was signed two years ago and Ralph and Mike Brown were the only ones to vote against it, he was roundly mocked and derided in the media, none more so than by the crew on ESPN Radio. Now that everyone else has discovered the deal isn't that great after all, the thread starter thinks it's time to remind some of those talking heads that they got it wrong. I won't join in, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with the idea.
  18. That opens a separate Media Player page, as does the link in the original post. Per the e-mail I received... ... those links might not work for much longer. If you need more detailed info, I'd suggest dropping an e-mail to "monkey (at) wgr550.com".
  19. Kevin (RR's brother) is a pretty good-sized guy, as well as a damn fine reporter. I'm guessing he's not the type Obama would call "sweetie" ...
  20. Further information on this from Andy Roth: WGR recently updated their player, so neither of those links will work for much longer. Those of you with "Locker Room" accounts would be advised to log into same on the WGR website to make sure you have the new link.
  21. And Jim's. And especially Steve Christie's, since I believe he lives there full-time now. There were still a couple of forlorn patches of snow on the ski slopes when I drove through there a couple of weeks ago. Billadelphia, 45 minutes south of E-ville puts you within earshot of my house...
  22. It could actually be his, I suppose, but it only vaguely resembles any of the ones I have (all of which were obtained in person). At the very least, I'd want a clearer picture of the loop on the Y. I certainly wouldn't buy it based on the pictures provided. And who's Jerry Bradshaw? Terry's less-talented brother?
