  1. Seriously? From reading that, deadly force was MORE than justified. He grabbed the taser and turned it on one of the cops? Any normal person goes down ... and in this case, one with a gun on his hip there for the taking. And for him to not be affected by the taser, I'm wondering what the hell he was on. A local cityside reporter just volunteered to get zapped for a Page One story he was writing for the OTH. It's a shame they didn't put his first-person account online, but the picture attached to the other story should give you a good idea. I'll see if I can find the hard copy ... Okay, here it is: Two things: Mr. Eberth has far more guts than I do, and I admire his "taking one for the team" to get that story. And unless the taser misfired in the other situation, I'm not sure anything short of a bullet would have stopped that guy.
  2. Welcome to the new reality (no guaranteed tickets), I guess. It's good for the franchise -- I'll take sellouts over blackouts any day -- but that doesn't help us very much right now. Jack posted a poll on the tailgate board, asking whether or not people are still coming if we all have to find our own tix. Please vote, and feel free to make suggestions. (I also tossed a StubHub link for the game in there.) Personally, I'd like to see the opening-day-at-Hammer's tradition continue, and I'll do what I can to make that happen.
  3. Yup. $20 for me to get an aftermarket nameplate change, and that's with sewn lettering. Probably half that to do a screened replica, and then they get $75 for the jersey instead of $10.
  4. Folks, there are literally hundreds of tickets on StubHub (817 listings). That includes some groups of 20-30 in the EZ/upper deck, many of those at a somewhat reasonable price: http://www.stubhub.com/buffalo-bills-ticke...-7-2008-600266/ For those of you who have dealt with SH before, is this a viable option? If so, maybe it's the way to go.
  5. ESPN broke the news shortly after 10 a.m. ... and my hands shook as I relayed the message to a board full of sports writers and broadcasters. "They're all gone" will send a chill down my spine for as long as I live. In Bob Ley's well-done retrospective, he mentioned the message Walter Cronkite sent McKay shortly thereafter: "Dear Jim, today you honored yourself, your network and your industry." My condolences to his family and friends ... and to the field of journalism, which has lost one of its very best.
  6. And it's official: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3429624
  7. Wait -- does this mean you're actually going to make a rare appearance north of the state line? Cooool.
  8. I'd sooner suspect that they're already gone. Did you notice that LL1 (the $560 tix) are also not on your list? No way they'd be holding those back, if they had any to sell.
  9. Yeah, the Rockpile and Family sections have been unavailable on their website since at least the end of April.
  10. No. Six/game/account until tomorrow. Apparently, a couple of thousand people did just that.
  11. Agreed, and that's a big difference. Far as we know, guys boozing, doing lines, or ripping sinks off the wall at the Big Tree didn't end up with someone going to the emergency room.
  12. The text is Allen's. The prediction is TSN's. And based on their prognosticating performance in the time he's been writing for them, I'd trust his point of view over theirs. No different than PFW: Pollock's the Buffalo beat guy for them but he's not their only source, and the editors have their own opinions on the team.

  14. Want Cleveland tickets? Right now, your two choices are seasons or scalpers. Like tater said...
  15. Yeah, but now he has a better excuse. Gratz, Lew.
  16. Why would they? Only scheduled 4 p.m. home game in the last five years was against the Jets, and that only because of the split NYC market. Plus, San Fran has a 4:05 p.m. home start that day, so the Bay Area CBS affiliate would take a hit on ratings (instead of having the 1:00-4:00 p.m. slot to themselves).
  17. Yup -- descends from that Norman Conquest thingy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyez
  18. Aug. 8, 1961: Hamilton Tigercats 38, Buffalo Bills 21. As for the father-and-son act, I'm shocked -- SHOCKED !!! -- that not one of you picked up on the son's college major.
  19. Word for word. Whenever someone wants to argue against Reed's Hall of Fame credentials, claiming he was merely a complementary player on a great team, I just tell 'em to watch the second half of the Houston game. Thurman? On the bench with a hip pointer. Kelly? In street clothes. Reed? Out there getting the job done, with catch after critical catch.
  20. Her mother's side? Be proud, Papa.
  21. And nice work on the stats, KRC. Should Norwood be considered? Sure -- for a while in the late '80s, he was Mr. Clutch. But "forgotten"? Who should have waited an extra year so Norwood's name could go up? The Super Bowl-era honorees are Kelly, Hull, Talley, Ritcher, Thomas, Reed, Tasker, and Bruce. Does anyone honestly want to argue that Norwood belongs before one or more of those names ... or before Bennett or Wolford, for that matter? Seriously?
