  1. Again ... really? The flags in Buffalo are flying at half-staff tonight. Everyone from President Bush to Nancy Reagan to Barack Obama to John McCain to Walter Cronkite to the Bills organization has weighed in on the passing of a man who TIME recently named one of its "100 most influential people in the world."

  3. We do our share of bashing these guys, but they've spent most of the last two hours ditching their normal show to take calls on Tim Russert. Well done, gentlemen.
  4. Sure about that? Because CNN, FOX, CBS, and ABC all broke in, too. I listened to Wolf Blitzer talk about him on the way home. Yes, he really WAS that important.
  5. There's already a park named after him, on Indian Church Road in West Seneca. (Yeah, out by the old Empire HQ.) That's where they'll be holding a candlelight vigil this Sunday night at 9 p.m. But the Wall of Fame? He's already up there as the 12th Man.
  6. Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. A giant of broadcast journalism ... and one of the best friends Buffalo ever had. I could never confirm it, but someone once told me that back in the early days of the intarwebs, he craved the Bills/Buffalo connection so much that TBD was the home page on his Web browser. Tim Russert: Sharing Buffalo with America - Part I Tim Russert: Sharing Buffalo with America - Part II Maureen, Luke, and Big Russ, our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with you. (tater, thanks - I've been looking for that online. Thanks to you too, Jack.)
  7. That's Seattle, not Portland. You do realize you were replying to someone who lives in Ottawa, right?
  8. Dude. PFC has started six threads here. All six link back to their site. Out of 67 posts, precisely 12 do not appear in those threads. Here are the first three of those 12. And I'll be honest: I didn't see them back then, or I would've made a different call. My mistake.
  9. Endzone, we've had some troll problems lately. Blue, this isn't him.
  10. It happened in 1974, when the government proposed the Canadian Football Act to keep the WFL from locating a team in Toronto. The act never became official, but the threat was enough to make the WFL change their minds and put the team in Memphis instead. Times have changed, though. I've been told that Campbell might gather some support from the western provinces, but the Harper administration isn't likely to back it.
  11. Ask Sam Wyche. He has it. Or ask me, since I've been told I'll probably end up with it at some point: -Metabolic disorders, such as thyroid disease He screwed up his neck in practice before his first season with Seattle. Ended up winning a lawsuit over his treatment, but no more football and no wrestling.
  12. Hmmm. Whoever has the username "Lori," it isn't me. Ah well ... never spent much time there anyway. Did load quickly, though.
  13. Faulk: "I think you have to start with where do they fit in that AFC East, and when you think about that, you know, like last year I told you that they weren't going to be very good but they won more games than I thought that they would. "But this year, you know, I don't know if they made enough moves to catch up to the Patriots, or if they made enough moves -- or more moves -- as many moves -- as the Jets made, because the Jets definitely moved up the ladder with all their offseason moves and their draft. So I -- I don't know, I placed them third in that AFC East. It's kind of hard. I know the people in Buffalo ... (laughter off-camera) "I'll get the e-mails, I'll read them, I'll wait for them, but I don't think your Bills made enough moves to catch up to the Patriots or get ahead of the Jets right now." Must be they cut off whatever Eisen quip you guys are talking about ...
  14. Promo, if you have broadband, go to http://www.nfl.com/videos, click the NFL Network tab, and look for the clip labeled "NFLTA: Bills 2008 outlook."
  15. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=422788 The first, but certainly not the last. And how depressing is that headline roundup?
  16. Yeah ... it's now the lead story on the buffalonews.com home page. The AP story from earlier this afternoon is listed in the headlines on SI.com, sportingnews.com, and the ESPN NFL page. And we're off ...
  17. If you believe the BPD, then yes we do, as far as the first few days are concerned. They're on record as saying it took until last Friday for Lynch's lawyer to meet with them. Not him, just his lawyer. As I said earlier, that meeting should have happened as soon as he got back into town and had a chance to catch up on the situation. An entire week, while both print and broadcast media follow every move (and non-move)? Come on. And yeah, I'm aware of what the police PR dept. is doing. Lynch's lawyer has his job, they have theirs. Just my opinion, as always. Hey, it worked for Ray Lewis -- and people wound up DEAD in that deal -- so I certainly won't disagree ...
  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-b...d&type=lgns Johnson and Luke Drone waived bye-bye today ...
  19. Nope. If this is the way they want to play it, then as soon as his lawyer got back into town, they should have gone in and said, "On the advice of my attorney ..." and waited for the subpoena. By not doing that, they ended up with pissed-off cops whispering to reporters, and his image taking another hit.
  20. It's probably a good idea if I walk away from this thread. Yeah, that would be for the best, I think.
  21. Some people understand it perfectly, but also realize the P.R. hit that both Lynch and the team are taking right now. Not saying anything to the cops, okay. That's his right. But completely ignoring them for close to a week? Bad form.
  22. Killing him? OMG! Murder! Someone call the cops! Err, wait ... there are probably already some in the area ... Schopp and Parker are not objective journalists, nor are they supposed to be. They are talk-show hosts. Yes, there is a difference: talk-show hosts, like columnists, are allowed to voice their opinions. We're allowed to disagree with them. *** One more thing: guys, I get the Stern-jack, but can you keep the language out of the deepest part of the gutter? Thanks.
  23. Missed this one the first time through. R.I.P.
