  1. All I know is, when he went out of the Giants game, things went to hell in a hurry. Now, the Super Bowl showed us just how good that passel of Big Blue rushers was. But if memory serves me, the score was 14-7 Buffalo when Peters limped off the field, and Edwards had yet to be sacked (he ended up with three).
  2. It's a capsule; it's not supposed to read like a full-scale preview.
  3. Correct. And the Army certainly didn't hate the PR boost they received when Lt. Campbell showed up at the draft in uniform, with the crowd chanting his name and ESPN running wall-to-wall coverage on him. I don't have a problem with Campbell and Viti being called to active duty; after all, that's the deal they signed up for when they entered the USMA. (And I thank them for their service.) However, I do think it's BS for the Army to make the play-football-and-recruit option available to them, only to flip-flop on the whole idea a few months later.
  4. You forgot Robert Smith. But how many of those early retirements were over contract disputes?
  5. There isn't a league rule, but the Packers could include a clause prohibiting it in the legalese of any potential trade.
  6. Paul Brown died in 1991, so I seriously doubt he had anything to do with putting his name on a stadium that opened nine years later ...
  7. Silver is very fond of his own opinion, and of interjecting himself into the stories he writes. Not my cup o' tea, and his leaving SI for Yahoo was addition by subtraction. Just MY opinion -- which is fine for a message board, not so much for a magazine feature.
  8. He PMed me a couple of days ago -- just to say hi, so I can't give you a medical update. Why not drop him a line?
  9. Are you assuming that the post-Tommy-John-surgery Delhomme will be the same QB who took that team to a Super Bowl? I'm not so sure. Plus, Rucker and Jenkins are gone from the once-fierce defensive line. As for the Saints, the corners are still soft, but they added Sed Ellis and Bobby McCray to the line (along with trading for the previously-mentioned Vilma).
  10. If true, this makes the Saints an overwhelming favorite to win the NFC South.
  11. According to the story, they just lost two DEs -- including Philip Daniels -- to season-ending injuries. In that light, bringing someone in isn't a horrid idea. Not sure how Taylor will hold up against the road-graders at RT, though.
  12. What makes you think he'll be awake to see the morning?
  13. What is this "getting stuck in the stadium lots" of which you speak? Oh, I see. You try to leave BEFORE 7 p.m. after a 1 p.m. game. Maybe I'll try that sometime ...
  14. So ... factual errors by News reporters are allowable, but statements of opinion are verboten. I understand perfectly. Or not.
  15. You have no problem criticizing Bills players and management, some of it (but not all) deserved. Seems odd that you'd suggest The News is above similar criticism. Thanks for stopping by, Bucky. Next time, look up the damn date.
  16. From everything I've heard, The News is a great place to work compared to most of the chain newspapers. (For example, the aforementioned PBPost is currently in the process of whacking between 25-40 percent of the newsroom staff.) So if someone like Graham wants an NFL beat, he either waits out Gaughan and Wilson -- which could take a long, long time, since neither is anywhere near retirement age -- or packs his bags and moves on. Case in point: Keith McShea's 2007 Daytona recap garnered him a top-10 mention in the APSE national writing awards, but he still covers mostly preps for The News. I have no doubt he could work a bigger beat somewhere else, but with more shops firing than hiring these days, he might be better off staying put and keeping a steady paycheck. Just my opinion ...
  17. He was already gone, Mike. Last I knew, he was covering the Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post. Add: Cool. ESPN's AFC East blog is now live. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast
  18. Agreed. Webster didn't "land" the job -- it was given to him because he had previous starting experience, in a move many of us criticized.
  19. Heh. I can hardly wait for those "why don't you write about MY kid" e-mails to start rolling in. Over on the Bonnies hoops board, there's a thread detailing some alleged roster changes at the local daily. At least one post approved of the name mentioned as the new beat writer because "he loves the Bonnies." Just saying, that may not be the best prerequisite for the job ...
  20. Looks like StubHub has some nosebleeds for cheap: http://www.stubhub.com/washington-redskins...-9-2008-615256/

  22. They're apparently not worried about Detroit. (They're still doing the Kids' Day thing this year, so they may already have a ton of group sales to Cub Scout packs and the like.) The only regular-season game with available tickets, New England, isn't until after Christmas.
