  1. Getting a guy like Stroud, and shaping the defense to fit him instead of trying to pound him into a pigeonhole, is a no-brainer. Too bad some of Buffalo's previous coaching decisions didn't show such foresight.
  2. Hm. I obviously haven't been paying attention, because I didn't know they were now a GateHouse shop. ME John Anderson's move "home" was the OTH's loss. Oh yeah ... some decent pics. Haven't read a lot from Jannace, but I'll be looking forward to the features he promised.
  3. Thank Gannett corporate for that idea -- it's their company-wide template, for both newspapers and TV. WGRZ (Channel 2 in Buffalo) is the same way. And now, I see the D&C's new publisher is an HR guy? Wonder if he's bringing his new car east with him. To the folks in the newsro... errr, "Information Center," I wish you the best of luck.
  4. How could he make a deal when the lawyer didn't even TALK to him for the first week?
  5. The program would be the D&C's call, not the Bills ... and they have that craptacular website redesign to pay for. (Did I mention I really don't like the new Gannett sites?)
  6. Not true. Goodell is the one who decides whether or not a player violates the Personal Conduct Policy. From the 2008 version: Where the NFL is concerned, Goodell IS the law.
  7. I'll be honest -- Goodell's "do the right thing" mantra at Chautauqua had me hedging my bets on a (short) suspension. Still figured the odds were in his favor, but I wasn't quite as sure as I had been. As you point out, though, his situation is markedly different than the guys who are actually being convicted and getting jail time. That said, I still think his lawyer let him take an unneccessary P.R. hit by dragging things out for a month. Just my opinion.
  8. I think he thinks Tagliabooo, as former commish, should keep his nose out of it; looks like he's also questioning Horrigan including the letter in the info he mailed. Again, I don't see the problem with either act. If the voters want to consider Tag's opinion, they will. If not, they won't. And considering the fact that PT was supposedly a slam-dunk first-ballot enshrinee who's still waiting to get in, they may not pay any attention at all.
  9. [This is an automated response] This subject matter is being currently being discussed or has already been discussed in a previous thread. Please consider using the "search" function before starting new topics. Thank you.
  10. Same guy also has a feature on Fred Jackson; I'll send the links to the BillsBeat staff and see if we can get 'em linked up front. Nice find.
  11. You're assuming McKelvin doesn't hit all his bonuses? Dangerous assumption, unless you've seen the contract.
  12. Ah, schadenfreude is a wonderful thing ...
  13. Welcome, OC's family, and thank you for your service to the cause.
  14. I can't help you with this answer, because I've only had season tickets since 1998.
  15. Not even close. Heck, I'd put Tom Ruud ahead of McGahee on that list, too. (What, you thought I was going to play the Walt Patulski card?) However, I'll still bet anyone here that Ray Rice will be starting for the Ravens at some point this season.
  16. Yes, but since last year's McGahee-stinks posts were lost in the crash, we probably have room for a new set. Briere play football now? No? Then feel free to tell the Iggles fan that nobody gives a .
  17. Personally, I don't have a problem with Tagliabue -- now a private citizen, not the NFL commissioner -- offering such a recommendation, but Magee makes the correct point later on in his column: Hall of Fame enshrinement is supposed to be based solely on a player's ON-field performance. Kemp should be judged on his football career, not his political one.
  18. If it makes the team better, yes ... and although I have no doubt he'll fight tooth and nail to keep it from happening, Greer would agree with that.
  19. Something nobody has mentioned yet regarding McKelvin's contract vs. Mayo's: Franchise tag - CB: $ 9,465,000 Franchise tag - LB: $ 8,065,000 If the Bills had drafted a quarterback at No. 11, you don't think he would have made more than a linebacker at No. 10? And quarterback is the ONLY position with a higher tag value than cornerback. Corners make more than linebackers. Ergo, McKelvin makes more than Mayo.
  20. No, because the selection committee actually starts the voting process the fall before the class is enshrined. Because Carter retired after the 2002 season, he was not eligible for the Class of 2007 preliminary list which was released on Oct. 27, 2006. Likewise, Bruce Smith retired after the 2003 season, and he isn't eligible until the Class of 2009. You also mentioned that Carter was possibly left out of this year's class "because Canton only takes seven at a time." This year, they only took six ... which means that no one else, including Carter, received the minimum 80 percent vote necessary for enshrinement. There have been only four modern-era wide receivers enshrined on the first ballot: Raymond Berry (1973), Lance Alworth (1978), Paul Warfield (1983), and Steve Largent (1995). Carter is not in their class, because numbers alone do not make a Hall of Fame career.
  21. Nonono, I meant the FIRST list - the one of Parker's clients. You're right about Rosenhaus' track record, I think.
  22. Chambers did okay? Did you see the Giants game, by any chance?
  23. #45 - damn, Roscoe looks like a lil' kid that you Photoshopped in there. Nice work, Keith!
