  1. Not doubting. But DETAILS, dammit! (If there were any.) Spycam footage? Transcript? Inquiring minds ... Please, and thank you.
  2. Phelps just had to swim two finals an hour apart; it takes a special, and incredibly well-conditioned, athlete to hold up over Phelps' workload. That's why you don't hear about a Spitz or Biondi or Phelps every four years. Comparing him to a shot putter, or any other athlete who can concentrate on a single event? I don't think it's applicable. Now, if you'd like to argue in favor of decathletes -- the decathalon record-holder has long been known as the "World's Greatest Athlete" -- I wouldn't disagree.
  3. 4x200 relay team just absolutely destroyed the WR. First time anyone has finished under seven minutes.
  4. Doesn't look like their Web site gets much attention, using AP copy for most updates. I wanted to add Mike's blog to the list on the TBD front page, but it hasn't been touched since the end of July. So, if any of our Rochester contingent want to give us a play-by-play of tonight's sportscast ...
  5. Another final, another gold medal, another world record. Ho-hum. That makes 10 golds, breaking the record he previously shared with Mark Spitz, Carl Lewis, Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina, and Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi. As a result, the NBC announcers called him "the greatest Olympic champion of all time." Anyone care to disagree?
  6. Great tennis announcer, solid writer. Completely out of her element doing sappy features, with some painful-to-watch results.
  7. Yup, and it's not just the Browns. A couple of the Cavs, and even a former college player from the area (Mike Gansey, who played at St. Bonaventure before ending up at WVU) have recently dealt with MRSA. And because Edwards has already had one bout with it, I can see them being ultra-careful with any open wound. From a 2007 ESPN story:
  8. I'll be honest - that's the first thing I thought of when I heard about Edwards' injury. Wonder if the overnight stay was to administer some IV antibiotics as a preventive measure?
  9. Intriguing. As of last night, still not available at SJF. Then again, the helpful clerk I asked about them tried to direct me to the kids selling the D&C's camp guides, so I'm not sure we were on the same wavelength. "No, no, no. Media guides." "Oh -- we have yearbooks." "Umm, no. Thanks anyway." Did they put back in some of the stuff the beat guys were complaining about, Brad? In my opinion (and theirs), moving the previous season's game summaries/box scores and the expanded team records to the Web was a huge mistake. Quicker to haul out the book than to click through and wait for a PDF to load ... assuming you have Internet access at that point, that is. (Ask the ESPN crew about the Dallas game for some insight on that situation ...)
  10. Those WERE his comments in the game.
  11. "Real" job: working for the world's largest glass container manufacturer. Next time you tip back your bottle of Mad Dog, think of me. Second, much more fun (if not exactly lucrative) job: sportswriter at a local newspaper.
  12. Yup. Don't know if Chris Brown mentioned it in any of his reports this evening, but it was drizzling for most of the first half of practice -- including during that play -- so Trent and the rest of the QBs managed to get in some reps at throwing a wet football ...
  13. You'd rather the announcers wave an American flag when "we" are playing someone? Thanks, but no. Homer broadcasters suck no matter what event they're calling or which side they're "rooting" for. Collins is one of the best in the business. And you know that he played for the U.S. in Munich, and his son is a scout/practice assistant with the current team, right? I see nothing wrong with the statements listed here: http://www.netsdaily.com/blog/?p=532
  14. You've seen Beck play, right? I was seriously annoyed when CamCam spoiled our fun by benching him in the game up here. That was on its way to ranking among the top all-time QB meltdowns. So, a serious question: who's going to trade for him?
  15. Not 70, but probably 45-50. Hardy -- who beat the coverage by a good five yards -- was definitely inside the 20 when he caught it.
  16. They originally signed Murphy as a TE, where he did actually start a couple of games for Houston. The experiment at tackle was going to be a long-term project. He's probably more than 264 now -- that's his weight from last year's media guide -- but still not 300. And I'm no medical expert, but that project looks like it's on indefinite hold. Murphy stayed on the ground for several minutes before he was helped to his feet, then walked slowly and gingerly off the field holding his arm to keep the shoulder from moving.
  17. *ahem* http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp...tory?id=3528603
  18. It gets better: http://olympicsblog.dallasnews.com/archive...-mens-4x10.html And I love me some Pat Forde: http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/col...&id=3529125
  19. Nope. NFLEurope seasons ended in late June. The roster was 80+NFLE exemptions; now it's just 80.
  20. Good answer, Jack. The guide may not be out yet -- I'll find out at SJF tomorrow -- and the new downloads aren't on any of the media websites, either. When it does become available, you can get one either online (buffalobillsproshop.com) or at the stadium store.
  21. They benched him for a rookie, and essentially told him the decision was permanent. Kas nailed it: If Losman believes he can be a starter, why would he stay?
  22. Gladly, as soon as you translate this into English for me: "This man could succeed at win one of 4 superbowls"
  23. I disagree. If Whitner et al. want to make pronouncements about being a playoff team, there are no more mulligans after Aug. 28.
