  1. True. They haven't completely missed the buyout trend, but unlike Gannett (and most of the other chains), Warren Buffett isn't slashing jobs left and right to try to squeeze the last drop of profit out of the paper.
  2. Kerry Collins had a hitch in his throwing motion at Penn State, yet led an expansion franchise to the NFC Championship Game in his second season. A few years back, Tiger Woods rebuilt his swing. Mechanics can be improved. Not that I want to see Tebow in a Bills uniform ...
  3. From Jax beat writer Michael C. Wright (aka @jagsreporter):
  4. Half an hour ago, via @albertbreer: Tebow finally makes his way to the field, to huge applause. Getting cheered as he jogs around to warm up. "Hero worship" isn't strong 'nuff. Should note that it's raining there, which may have affected Spikes' time.
  5. "Ten million hits on the Web site" ... and 98 percent of them are probably from here.
  6. Pretty good times for a lineman. Oh, wait ...
  7. Absolutely. If this was 2000, not only was there no Twitter, but Adam Schefter's editor at the Denver Post would have been telling him, "We can't run this until you get a second source to confirm it." The day Buddy Nix was promoted to GM, Mark Gaughan and John Murphy both had it an hour before the PC, but Channel 4 "broke" it because the sourcing wasn't yet good enough to get past The News' editorial policy.
  8. Keith McShea kicks some serious butt on preps. He was already going to a ton of games before he added the liveblogs, videos, and all that. Whenever we start talking about preps coverage on our sportswriting board, I brag him up something fierce, because I think he's doing great work. As for the D+C, I expect them to run wire for something like this. To be honest, that's why it's there. Leo's no longer on the beat except for columns off home games (Scott Pitoniak's former role), and while the Bills are Sal's primary responsibility, he also has other assignments. And don't even bother asking about Matthews. Plus, like Chuck Pollock at the TH, they're 70 miles away, meaning they need to have decent advance notice of any press conferences/availability to make it there. They're also a Gannett shop, and that does make a difference; GCI has emphasized shifting to AP and sharing stories with other papers in the chain. (Penny-pinching? You bet.) One near NYC used to cover all the city teams, but last summer, they decided to drop those beats -- and lay off the writers -- to go with wire copy for everything except Yankees. Bad news for those reporters, obviously, but also for the fans. For example, their Giants and Jets blogs are still linked on their sports page, but they stopped last Aug. 26. (Course, I guess that's better than what the D+C did to Pitoniak -- his photo was removed and his blog deleted within hours of his layoff, much like the Bills editing Dick Jauron out of the team photo.)
  9. Amusingly, the top site on my Google search of your name and Edwards' is ... this thread. And the second one is a thread on the bb.com board referring to your "no deal done yet" posts here. Add: Ah, there it is ... http://wcbstv.com/wireapsportsny/Person.fa....2.1567436.html
  10. But those are the diehards who already own Jags season tickets. How many people down there don't give a wahoo about Dave Garrard, but own at least one Florida Gators #15 jersey?
  11. He still shows up as online, but I'm going to guess the next thing we see from JW is a story crossing the wire. Priorities.
  12. Sounds like it might be, finally: http://twitter.com/RavensInsider
  13. Tertiary. KFFL picking up Hensley's blog post, which he typed after retweeting Schefter's "scoop." http://twitter.com/jamisonhensley Some interesting reading in his tweets since then... Should note that @1WinningDrive is the Ravens' official Twitter account.
  14. Can't see y'all falling all the way to ninth. Enjoying some good Habs hockey, though. It's been a while. Are we there yet?
  15. Check Page 2 of this thread, and you'll find the same report. Nice of KFFL to finally pick up on it.
  16. Nah, there had to be at least a couple thousand Sabres fans there. Harrington covered their last game down there, and he said it was at least 50-50 that night ...
  17. As I watch (and giggle) at Afinogenov whiffing on an empty-netter to seal the Sabres' doom ... So, could still break either way. Thankee. Thrash win anyway, and the 600 people remaining in the arena cheer.
  18. Not my job. Technically not Tim's either, although I'm assuming Schefter gave him advance warning before breaking it, so he could start writing. And before anyone gets too harsh on the BuffNews guys, I'd remind that Gaughan was the first one to report Chan Gailey's hire (although Nevergiveup did beat him to the punch here ...)
  19. Better link: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/...ensive-signings Still no confirmation beyond Schefter's source, though.
  20. Got a link for that, seeing as how Tim hasn't posted anything since before 5 pm?
  21. He has? Where? http://twitter.com/espn_afceast http://twitter.com/TimGrahamESPN http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast
  22. Well, obviously, that means Reagan had more to do with the fall of Soviet-style communism than Rambo did. I agree with your next sentence, but I ain't touching the last one ...
  23. Is this where I apologize for knowing the guy who wrote that column? Sorry, my bad. That work for you?
