  1. Homer? Umm, Vic grew up a Los Angeles Rams fan. Now, has he seen more of the Bills than of other teams? Undeniably. I've never considered him much of a pompom-waver, though. But that's just me ...
  2. Lori's so busy that she's already (reluctantly) turned down one paying gig this week. Don't rub it in. So, no, my name is not in the running for this job. Sounds like Scott is more or less describing a notebook, with stats and a few Web-only bells and whistles added. For comparison, here's the one Chuck Pollock filed from the Jacksonville game: A hot start for the Bills. (This normally runs right next to the expanded box score in the print version.) If you want to get your feet wet, but you're not sure you can pound out an 800-word column, this is a perfect way to start.
  3. And ain't it cool that there's more than one choice?
  4. Hear, hear. (Or reading them, as the case may be.)
  5. If your kids don't know you by now ... Making the trip for the Raiders game, or did you decide on this one instead?
  6. Considering that Graham was covering a different game on Sunday, that's solid work. Nice touch, mentioning FIVE bags of IV fluids for Whitner. Looks like he was in town for that piece? If so, you might as well stick around for the weekend, Tim. You wouldn't rather cover Pats*-Fins instead, would you?
  7. Actually, I was sitting right in the middle of the bleachers between the two teams' fans. This is the third home game I've done for the team I cover, but the first time I've heard anyone from either side constantly calling out the refs. (Of course, when I talked to that team's coaches after the game, they mentioned that their only previous loss came on a goal that never crossed the line -- and they supposedly have the video to back up their claim, although the state rules don't provide for using instant replay. I did understand their fans' mindset a little better after that, although I still disagreed with their opinions ...)
  8. Agreed. It's not a contradiction to believe that Edwards is a better choice at QB than Losman, but also think that Losman was mishandled by previous coaching staffs (an opinion shared by Mark Kelso and Chris Brown, among others).
  9. Actually, that's exactly what happens. From the release:
  10. He tried, remember? That whole "asking for Kiffin's resignation" deal? But when Lane told him to stuff it, guess he was too cheap to pull the trigger and pay off the rest of the contract. That outstanding one-liner you used in another thread -- dementia meeting egomania -- sums it up perfectly, I think.
  11. They're credentialed with the team, so I'm assuming there's some fire underneath the smoke. And Davis loves Ryan, as do his players. This move would definitely put a charge into their defense.
  12. You mean this place? http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Sta...ar.716-649-6367 I haven't been in there lately, but last I knew, Hammer had set up a Two Bills Drive discount with them. Mention the site when you call, and maybe they'll give you a better deal ...
  13. Funny how that works. I was covering a soccer game last week, and although I thought they were calling an even game, one team's cheering section was all over the refs. "Did you see that push?" "Come on, that HAS to be a foul." Drove me nuts. I finally couldn't take any more, and walked over to the edge of the field to stand with our photographer ... (But yeah, I thought Jacksonville held on darn near every play, too. So either I'm not immune to the charge of homerism, or they actually were, or both.)
  14. With three turnovers, including an 86-yard interception return for a TD by the Niners' Patrick Willis. And when you look at the passing yardage, remember that MadMikeMartz is in SF now -- O'Sullivan threw for 300 yards, but he also took eight sacks. Their visit here at the end of November should be interesting ... if O'Sullivan lives that long.
  15. Of course you do. Just picking, Anthony. But you know, both the teams Buffalo played against had pretty good defenses last season. Now, Peters is back, and they're starting to work Hardy and Jackson into the mix. I agree with Lv: patience. This team may never equal the K-Gun years -- few ever have, or will -- but 20 offensive points in each game, and a 2-0 record, aren't a bad way to begin the season.
  16. Sounds like they blew the Westbrook one, then ... but yes, the officials have to decide it's worth a flag. Here's the link to my copy of the transcript where this was discussed: http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=989625 The relevant excerpt, from Rich McKay:
  17. Yeah, but those were before the TE (Trent Era) began. Still, it's always amusing when someone with posts like that in his closet starts a thread.
  18. You know there's no longer a 5-yard facemask, correct? I didn't see the plays in question (not watching the game), but if they weren't "good" enough to merit a 15-yard penalty, there's no foul.
  19. Absolutely. Oh, wait. You were kidding, weren't you?
  20. I noticed it last spring when I was comparing the Bills' 2008 ticket prices with other stadiums around the league. See if I can find it in one of the 17 notebooks scattered across my desk right now, as I take a break from a high school football gamer. (I hope the team I'm writing about wins a game soon ... for my sake as well as their own ...) Ah, here it is: according to my notes, the lower-level sidelines in Jax (roughly between the 20s) are 100 percent club seats. Depending on where they draw the line on the visitors' side, my seats -- $70/ticket this year -- would cost either $210 or $165.50 there with a three-year deal, more without it. Their upper deck prices are fairly cheap, though. That's why they're near the Bills at the bottom of the average-price lists (which don't include the premium seats, remember).

  22. Yawn ... Nice to know that someone at WGR reads the board. BTW, Bill Williamson's AFC West blog on ESPN might be a good place to keep up with the happening (or non-happening, as the case may be ...)
