  1. Solid work, Mr. Graham. A thought from Allen Wilson in today's News:
  2. McKenzie? If Shaw is at one guard spot, DeLamielleure gets the other one.
  3. When comparing Simpson's and Thomas' stats, remember two things: -Receiving stats don't match up because back then, not many teams used the RBs for anything more than a safety valve in the passing game. Check some of the other featured backs from the '70s; not many 60-catch seasons among them. (In fact, not many 60-catch seasons by anyone -- one each by a WR in 1971-73, before backs like Lydell Mitchell and Chuck Foreman helped usher in a new era by leading the league in receptions the next two years.) That said, No. 32 could catch the ball -- when he broke the NFL record by scoring 23 touchdowns in 1975, seven were on pass receptions. -In 1973, Simpson's legendary 2,003-yard season, he was playing with a rookie QB and RG (albeit one who turned out to be pretty darn good), Bubby Braxton only played in six of 14 games due to injury, and starting WRs J.D. Hill and Bobby Chandler combined for a grand total of 59 receptions. The Bills ran 601 times and passed just 213 (including two attempts by Simpson). Defenses knew 32 was getting the ball, and getting it often, but it didn't matter -- he still averaged an astounding 6.0 yards per carry. Thurman was a great player. Simpson was perhaps the best I've ever seen. Absolutely feel free to take his despicable off-the-field actions into account when you vote. I probably will. But if you're basing it solely on their playing careers, in my opinion, the choice is relatively clear.
  4. Good stuff, bandit. And to the people who prefer Hargrove over Schobel, assuming Aaron comes all the way back from the foot problems? Let's not go overboard.
  5. This year's columns aren't up yet, but Sully did garner an honorable mention two years ago. And with guys like Ian O'Connor and Geoff Calkins in the same bracket, that ain't bad.
  6. The News takes a lot of abuse here, but the Associated Press Sports Editors apparently have a different opinion. The 2008 APSE awards are starting to roll out, and The News earned a Top 10 finish in daily sections, honorable mention for Sundays, in the 100,000 - 250,000 circulation category. Congrats to Sports Editor Steve Jones and everyone on staff for doing some great work during a trying and emotional year for them. Individual writing awards are still in the pipeline, but News sportswriters have done well there lately, too, with Keith McShea's Daytona 500 game story earning an honorable mention last year. And while I'm here, mad props to a friend at the Harrisburg Patriot-News for a kickass football tab which earned his paper a Top 10 in Special Sections.
  7. Jeebus, Dante. Sending some good thoughts your way ...
  8. Just getting in from a long weekend? http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=83070
  9. Bingo. Good teams make their own opportunities instead of waiting for random bounces.
  10. Yeah, it's entirely possible they were all designed with input from whatever NFL Properties is calling itself now ...
  11. rabbit, even if you attribute (which you did, and I thank you for that), it doesn't matter -- you can post a three-or-four paragraph excerpt and a link, but not the entire story. I've edited the post directly above this one to keep the parts you emphasized. To elaborate on this: "Fair use" rules allow some short excerpting. But if you copy/paste the entire piece here, you're denying traffic to the rightful copyright owner, in this case the Buffalo News. By rights, they could send TBD a cease-and-desist notice ... or worse, even file suit against us. (And don't think that it never happens. In fact, my newspaper is going after someone right now for "borrowing," and reprinting without attribution, significant portions of a story I wrote.) Recap: three or four graphs, with a link to the originating site, is fine. Any more than that is questionable. Okay? Thanks.
  12. That's the version of the logo Tops is allowed to use. The one provided for media use and pictured on the merchandise available in the Pro Shop doesn't include the sponsorship.
  13. So much for moving on; you just proved Tigre's point. And I merely provided some additional background information in my first post in this thread. I haven't even come close to "jumping all over you" ... yet. Trust me, if/when it happens, you'll know. Time to let gordon_g have his thread back. And that goes for everyone.
  14. As silvermike noted, the team's official "birthday" is October 28, 1959. And if you do the math, this is indeed the 50th season that the former AFL franchises will take the field. All previous celebrations -- the Silver Anniversary team in 1984, the 35th in 1994, etc. -- have honored the D.O.B., not the date the first game was played. I see no problem with continuing the tradition.
  15. Or, if you don't know the history of either the poster or the board, you could always refrain from making a snide comment. But then it wouldn't be the Stadium Wall we all know and love, I suppose.
  16. That was a rhetorical question, right? Starting to, yes.
  17. Or maybe because the kids ahead of him on the depth chart -- Maurice Evans, PSU's returning sacks leader and a preseason All-American before being suspended for the second through fourth games of the season, and Josh Gaines, a three-year starter and team captain -- earned those spots before Maybin started coming into his own. If you know anything about JoePa, you know that seniority has its privileges. And Evans never got his job back. I do think Maybin should've stayed in school, but that's my blue-and-white bias showing. I also think that "better at 3-4 rush LB" doesn't necessarily mean Mayock thinks Maybin would suck in a 4-3.
  18. Lone stance? Hardly. Go to the library and pull up some editions of the BN from September 1988. And if TBD/TSW had been around then, you know damn well that the sentiment wouldn't have been 100 percent in Bruce's favor. In fact, when the suspension hit, the pro-Bruce faction may not even have been a majority.
  19. As others have pointed out, a hard drive crash wiped out the Stadium Wall archive from Apr. 21, 2007 to Mar. 13, 2008. During the beginning of the 2008 free agency period, Mr. G. posted about player visits -- most notably Stroud's -- several hours before anyone in the media had that news. And yeah, because TSW had been burned by previous "inside" info, people gave him crap ... until his predictions started coming true. My suggestion: be quiet, let the man speak, and pay attention to what he says. You might learn something interesting.
