I would have loved him, too, but come on guys. Seriously, how badly do we need those picks for our offensive line next year (not a question). I'll say it again, you are less likely to get quality OLinemen in free agency than most other positions. You have to get them in the draft.

Fitzpatrick may keep the starting job!

What do we draft with a top 5 pick next year ?
dollars 2 donuts replied to QBorBust2018's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is so much right with this post I couldn't just give it a thumbs up. I had to come in here and respond with "there is so much right with this post". personally, I need three potential starting OLinemen from the 2019 draft, because you are not going to get even one reasonably good one in free agency. When they are even half good they never come available, like the way WR and such come available. -

This is like watching paint dry if drying paint ripped your heart out, threw it on the floor, peed on it, and then made out with your wife. -

The moment he looked that way I just plain said, “No”. -
From what we've seen of Allen so far, with consideration to the concerns people had with Allen coming out of college, does it look at all like he has been poorly coached? I know for damn sure he has been poorly protected, but his footwork, going through his options, and his decisions generally have been good.

After the Coleman transaction I wrote that I wanted Brandon Beane to have my babies, even though I am guy. Not only does the situation with the line make may back off that comment, but also if it were even scientifically possibly for us to have children they would be freaky looking mutants...not Beane's fault. The bad genes would be on me. (I am serious about the line. I know this rebuild was going to take at least 2 years, but just coming in with Bodine in the off season is a little weak)

Peterman will never live down the 5-pick half . . .
dollars 2 donuts replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is very unfortunate that game against the Chargers has derailed this young man’s life and shaken him to the core to such a degree that after this preseason he is likely our game 1 starter. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely agree with the OP’s original statement. I’m just impressed that this kid seems to be forged from harder stuff than that which might have brought others down. Go Bills, whether it is Peterman or Allen (unlikely AJ at this point), -
We need to get it out of our heads that there is going to be this plethora of free agent olinemen next year that we are going to pick from. If they're set to be FAs next year they are unlikely to stay that way. Rebuilding the line in 2019 must come from the draft and I don't care if the first three picks our RT, G and C. Other wise we'll be signing more Bodines next Spring.

BTW, Paulus, why isn't this an article about the Dallas Cowboys already being the worst team in the NFL after their 27-3 Sunday loss? Oh, that's right. It doesn't fit the narrative of what some people's own tripe on the subject. -

I freaking hate when the preseason definitively outlines regular season results. We should just give up and head to 2019. BTW, and I may be wrong, weren't the 2017 preseason Browns 4-0? EDIT: just checked. Yup, they were. -

Please let me apologize to you, CLT. I quickly high jacked your thread. You asked a good question and I forced my way in early with a particular thought. i hope someone can respond to your original question with more respect than I showed. apologies, brother. -
Run blocking vs. pass blocking

Come on, Dubs, work with me! At least see the process! I really don't disagree with what you are saying, Drought, but like the team in texas (I think) that never punts I wish somebody, somewhere would start to think outside the box when it comes to blocking. However, my friend, just read again what I put in bold approve from your text and think about it for a moment: what if you weren't "keeping him off", but rather pressing? Why can't DLinemen just step aside on running plays? With that same moment they would be able to get a hold of the RB at the line, or for a short gain. You get yards running the ball because there is engagement at the point of contact and you are pushing (or trying to push) the DL back. What if by popping them momentarily, attacking momentarily, you were able to delay them for as much as a second, or at least slow up "their moves" to get to the QB? I am just asking you (or anyone) to just try and think about that for a moment. -
Run blocking vs. pass blocking
dollars 2 donuts replied to CLTbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Johnny, I honestly thought of that. Not (I believe) if it was within three yards. The D will still want to attack so there will be contact. I am not talking about driving guys down the field, but rather engaging them more. Just because I am back peddling and shuffling my feet doesn't mean that I can handle you doing all your moves to get by me. Maybe you just swim past me...fine, that has to be worked on. However, if I am engaging you the hope is it is going to be more of a problem for you. You may be either stopped or on your heels a bit. Even for a moment. -
Run blocking vs. pass blocking

I am the wrong person to respond, CLT, but I will say this (based upon nothing): the next revolutionary change in the nfl (shot gun, no huddle, "Big Nickel" now with safeties) is going to be pass blocking that isn't just going to be stepping back and going on the defensive. As I've said here before, I think the olines in football should be a little more offensive when it comes to pass protection and not as reactionary. Currently the hope is to create a bubble around the QB and not bend to the will of the DL. It isn't working a whole, at least not for a team like ours. Generally the olines are big and slow and not built for "reacting" to what the DL gives them. -

I not only didn't want Sentreal gone, I would have signed him outright and even at the 3-4 million or so that he got. From what I remember this regime even sort of liked him, but...I believe it was cost cutting. -

Unfortunately, this scares the crap out of me. Considering how low the price tag got on EJ (4 million or so) I still would have signed him to hedge our bets at CB this year.
