There's a thread simmering on Fins Heaven entitled "Do not resign Tua". It seems about evenly split on the proposition (link below).
Tua is currently playing on the fourth year of his rookie contract at $9 million this year. They exercised his 5th year option and next year he will be on the books for $23 million fully guaranteed (link below). The question is what to do afterwards?
I don't think there's a good answer for the Dolphins, either overpay a QB who probably isn't good enough to get you to a Super Bowl, or head back to wandering in the QB desert hoping to get lucky.
With the escalation in QB contracts the Dolphins will be looking at $50 million a year to keep Tua. Look at the last several QB contracts yearly average (link below). Where do you slot Tua in when it's his turn?
Burrow; $55 million
Herbert; $52.5 million
Lamar; $52 million
Hurts; $51 million
Wilson; $49 million
Murray; $46.1 million
There's a quote in the thread which pretty closely mirrors my opinion on the situation with Tua;
"We're in the Daniel Jones no-man's land where we're gonna have to sign him since there's no one else and we're not going to be able to do it on the cheap so we're gonna be investing a lot of money in one guy who we're not even really sure is the guy since he has yet to actually ball out in a big game"

Do I think he deserves it? No. But I also didn’t think Hurts did either.
I believe he may settle in under 50 million. Maybe around where Josh is at 45, with some incentives.

Weak thread.
2 pages and not one post about what Daquan Jones thinks about stuff like food and politics.

Wait, wat? That happened this season. It's one of the games that's the reason why we're playing for the Division and the #2 seed instead of talking about whether we'll rest our starters. In what way is the Eagles game, or the Jax game for that matter, not part of this?
Just to be clear, though, I think you took my post as directed at you. When I said "some people" I literally meant it - I was framing a general response.
Hear you again and good post, Beck.
I don’t put the Eagles game on because there was better semblance of the passing game.
Right now our passing game looks like Rain Man had a baby with Sybil and named it Mr. Magoo.
Not just an Allen thing, but Allen, Brady, Diggs and the others. Something is wrong, but even in a loss to the Eagles it was working and in terrible conditions.
1 game is meh. 2 is a little bit of a trend. This run has been going on primary during the last bit, albeit we’ve been winning.

Why in the world did you leave out the WR screen for 2-3 yards.-

This is perceptive.
We won convincingly over the Cowboys, but we did it in an out-of-character way. Our wins against the Cowboys were certainly not convincing.
But I can't shake the feeling that some people will never be happy. Josh had 67.5% completions, 0 sacks, 2 passing TD, 359 net passing yards against the Jaguars.
He had 57% completions, 1 sack for 7 yards, 2 passing TD, 332 net passing yards against the Eagles. I guess that would be doing pretty well in "the most important area of current football" but did it make us feel so good in those games?
Hell to the No, we lost them. We all felt like *****.
Beck, I don’t disagree with you, but you are going back to a time (Eagles) that isn’t part of this.
i am one of those guys that so very rarely puts a loss on Josh.
I also think you mistook my comment for Josh is the problem. No, it’s the team and it is the identity, but also it is what you can rely upon. Even in losing (KC-13 seconds, Eagles, etc.) you know what you have and you know what you can count on if something goes awry. It is just unclear right now.
It is frustrating to watch a team like Cleveland have a 38 old man come in off the street after doing daddy duty and make passing look so easy…AGAIN, this is not a Josh comparison but an overall team, or rather offensive identity thing.
I’m one of the guys who started the never lose again threads, because it was the way. They are one game away from doing it to lock up the #2 seed and I am so proud of them.
However, there are issues.
Go Bills.

They are a complete team. Multiple offense threats, all-time level kicker, and a variety of ways to disrupt as a defense.
Beatable...let's win division and figure out the offense to see them in late January.
I read this and a little bit of pee came out.

Why do I feel worse than I thought I would after the two biggest games went our way?
because we struggle in the most important area of current football and it used to make us feel so good. Like no matter who we played we could beat anybody.
because we are not the shinny new thing around that everyone is fired up about.
because we win…but we don’t convince.

We came into the season knowing that we didn't have a #2 WR on the roster. Now it turns out we don't have a true #1 either. We have no speed, no YAC ability, below average separation and catch ability from our WR corps. That's why our passing offense has looked so inconsistent, there is zero margin for error.
And all of the above, Hap, is going on in real time and is happening in their heads.
Just thinking about the passing game has the whole offense in fetal positions on the floor in their minds with their fingers in the ears going “na-na-na-na-na-na-na.”
They need to shake it the hell off, do something different through the air or go slump busting.
and soon.

Rough game for the fish. I wish it was closer. It is hard to lose that big and not be pissed the next week. However, losing Chubb with a knee injury in garbage time sucks for them.
I absolutely hear you, Ace.
However, I believe more so that if you believe you are a champion then you beat the **** out of teams that are pissed off.

Sigh…well there it is. What some of us clung to a month ago, as crazy as it seemed, came to fruition whatever you may think of how they got here. Now they need to prove once again for what hopefully will be the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th time play this thing out one week at a time.

Tre’s teammates were super weak in standing up for him too. I think Hyde gave him a little shove. Reminded me of the Sabres soft response after the Bruins guy ran over Miller.
and I used to like Gronk. Buffalo type of guy who I have a ton of friends who are like (myself included). But that was such a scumbag move. And get off tv. He’s really not that interesting or adds any real perspective to anything. Dude kinda sucks.
Something should have been done.
Honestly, you can get into what would look like a serious scrum to show your displeasure and avoid any serious ramifications.
Chest bumping, shoving and the like.
However, swinging and hitting...man, that potentially comes out of their pocket and possibly other consequences.

I was so fired up about that hit because it was absolute bull####. I love my friends, but in typical Masshole fashion they turned it into me being a sore loser, mocked the hit, etc.
Don't hang with them anymore, JGM.

I don’t understand it. I just don’t.
How so many teams can have offenses that just protect their QB and then throw dimes over the middle 20 yards up the field like it was nothing.
Does no one notice how we struggle at this lately?
I am not talking about Josh saves by the skin of his teeth plays. I’m talking mundane, efficient, medium range passing that teams seem to do so easily.

Honestly, Wizard, I don't think your list is a bad list, at all.
Sure, people might disagree, but there is nothing to mock in what you have.
My only change, for argument sake, would be switching out Dak for Purdy. That is not a knock on Dak, but just giving a little more credit to Purdy. Yes, I know the skill position talent SF has, plus they have Shanny, but still.
I will say the Baltimore game took him right out of the picture for the top spot. Regardless of any other candidates shortcomings "recency and primacy" still matter.
EDIT: One more add, if Josh goes off for 4-5 this weekend (3-4 pass, 1 rush) against the Pats D, I believe he is absolutely back in the picture for the top spot.
If He finishes with 48 in any fashion, but preferably 30+ passing and 15+ rushing and also clinches the #2 seed. Wow...he has a strong argument.

Anyways, New England has been playing teams tough, regardless of their record, and as the saying goes “this is their Super Bowl” so the Bills have to show up again as they have on this so far three game run.*
(* Truthfully 5 game run as I include Brady first game/win and even a pretty good performance against the Eagles.)

I hope the Ravens are not inclined to have a let down.
Their game against Miami is for all the marbles in the AFC and a first round bye.

I have said here many times before I hate for anybody to be injured.
BUT, if they do happen, as in this instance I am more than annoyed at the modern trend.
…and that trend seems to be that high ankle sprains, the days gone by 3-6 week injury, has now turned into maybe missing 1 game.
What the heck happened with medicine and science on this one?!
