Truth be told, people get hung up on drafting the highest pick etc. Having a low first rounder is ripe for trade downs and can get HUGE value to move up draft spots all over. Frankly it has more trade value than trading talented roster guys. We didn’t give up anybody thus far that we wanted (and was available to us), which I think is the overall point. I think we did great by trading down and thought it was likely.

Frankly I think Adonai Mitchell is probably the guy we wanted since Thomas went off the board. When we found out other teams would trade up and weren’t gonna take Mitchell, we agreed to trade down. We aren’t in the market for a small wide receiver like either of the Xavier’s, which were the only two off the board since we could have drafted potentially. Mitchell is 6’4”+ and 4.3 nastiness. Another megatron type but faster. We lost nothing by trading down, only gained more and better picks. I bet we go with Adonai tomorrow with first pick and we significantly bolstered our draft position by drafting down twice. Bottom line is we don’t trade down if our guy at any position is there. If he isn’t and we can still get him lower, then it’s money for us.

I’m not sure I’m against this. Clear some space and get some value.

Yes but the truth is that Morse is near retirement. Our right tackle whom I really like being Spencer Brown, is a late round draft guy who has struggled with injuries and has been hit or miss between injuries and consistency. Those are the two next pieces that need to be addressed in either free agency or the draft and they will be fine for now but are definite needs moving forward.

Two biggest improvements overall in this team have been McDermott’s takeover of the defense and McGovern and Torrence taking over the guard spots. There are other bright spots but these clearly stand out. Transformed the line totally, and one guy is only a freshman and will likely be a pro bowler by year 2.

I will say only one thing. The one move we should have made was cutting some fat and grabbing Christian McCaffery even if he was expensive. He’s paid huge dividends and somehow Sf doing ok on the cap space. He would have been the cherry on top.

Bernard, Torrence and Benford all officially starters
Aurelius replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
We can talk about Bernard etc, but by far the most impactful of all is Torrence. This guy is a rookie and plays like an All-Pro. He has totally anchored the right side of the line both run and pass-wise and is well beyond his years with football understanding. He’s never physically overwhelmed thus far and has been a rock, always communicating etc. he makes the entire right side better. Kudos to him. Totally steal of a pick. -
Zach Thomas was 5’10 228 out of the draft. You can’t teach speed though and this kid has it. I’m not sure why people think that extra 10 lbs makes a big difference. He’s got enough height and can easily get to 240’s with training. More important is if he can read offenses and the commentors seem to think he’s a savant at reading the backfield etc.

Kincaid is going to be a nightmare for other teams. He’s basically a lineman-sized Cole Beasley with more speed and better hands. Put he and Knox on the line near the goal line/red zone and will be tough to stop run or pass. Love this pickup.

I think if we talk about overall priorities on this team, our number 1 overall is Josh Allen. We should aim to have the best line in the NFL blocking for Allen before we do anything else. In addition, not worth reaching in first round for a guard. Answer has to be the best tackle in the draft for our RT spot.

Would you resign Edmunds or a tackle?
Aurelius replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Get rid of the Frazier defense, keep Edmunds and move him to OLB where he belongs. He’d be an excellent pass rusher and has great length and speed. I’m not sure he’s been utilized to get the most out of him in this system. Trade some of our other higher value underperforming guys for draft picks. It’s odd to be in a mini rebuild right now, but it seems to be the case. Gonna need center/other o-line, safety, LB, maybe even another edge, WR amongst others. I like Edmunds. I think he’s young and would do better with a different DC who actually runs stunts and doesn’t expect their MLB’s to be the cushion until the defensive backfield picks up in the zone. I like Oliver but his production can be replicated for cheaper. We grabbed Settle and DaQuan Jones this past offseason and we can grab others this year. -
Hines' 235 kick return yards. Is that a game record?
Aurelius replied to tomur67's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it’s safe to say as long as they can work it out, he landed the 3/4th RB/return job next year. -
NFL Week #18 - Patriots* @ Bills - 2nd half game thread

We need a good #2 receiver bad in the off-season. -
Potential decision made for Championship Game location
Aurelius replied to Ra-cha-cha's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah but what’s more fun than smashing the Patriots in the final game of the season at home? Bills will be angry. Let’s go Ravens and Raiders!! -
OT like the thread, but if we do move on from Singletary, I really like the way this kid Zach Charbonnet out of ucla runs. He’s a bigger back 6’1, 220+ and has a nice feel. I gotta see more of him, but we need one of those bigger backs that provide a bit of Yang to our ying and our smaller backs.

I don’t think it’s a “concept”. Bengals run 3 nasty WR’s. We are behind in the arms race.

1/2/23 Week 17 Gameday Bills @ Bengals Pregame Thread
Aurelius replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
This game is one for the defensive line to pressure as much as possible. Will need that. Let’s get after it!! -
All WR’s not named Diggs. Time for Gabe Davis to wake up!
-
First rounder should be stud WR. 2nd and 3rd OL. Maybe more.

Cut it any way you like to, you can’t take Allen out of the equation because he’s basically another running back out there. He’s been rushing for 700+ every season. He’s actually I think passed Michael Vick’s rushing totals in 5 years. As odd as it seems, while the Bills seemed “inept” much of the season, Bills are in the top 4 right now in overall rushing stats. A lot of that is also because James Cook is become a viable and moreso somewhat dangerous option there. Where the Bills get you is they have a QB that can take off at any time plus 2 backs that are a threat to rush or catch out of the backfield right now. No we aren’t a one man show like Derrick Henry but surprisingly enough have become a lot more effective than we thought we would be in the ground.
