I just cant see Portugal having enough offense to win.
They don't seem to have that strong a team this year.
That being said, I cant wait to watch it and Im glad its on a Saturday so I can enjoy it at home with a beer and not streaming it on my cell at my desk at work
They did in that first game against Spain. They will need to be at their best for sure.
Uruguay has looked very good so far, but I think it helps Portugal that they had that Euro 2016 success, so they won't be shy on the big stage. Uruguay hasn't had much international success lately.

Well no chance Portugal gets passed Uruguay next. Not if they continue to play like they have been
I think that will be a great game. I can't guess who will win, but it's a must watch.

Our Grandfather passed away early yesterday morning. He was a huge soccer fan and yesterday's result would have put a massive smile on his face.
The sun was shining all day and our national soccer team brought us a moment where our grief stopped for a few minutes. I'd like to think that victory was for my Grandad Harold.

England, wow. Ok.

I was rooting for Iceland, but Nigeria was really good in the second half. Argentina has a sigh of relief with this result, but they still have to beat Nigeria and that won’t be easy at all.

they got up 1-0 and parked the bus, this is how the game is played
and this is why soccer will NEVER catch on in North America because a legit strategy is that a 0-0 or 1-0 score is the intent from the first minutes, and in the next round the weaker team is playing for penalty kicks the whole time

LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SPORT, DOGGY-EFFING IS THE KEY TO IT...
it can backfire.... Italy is notorious for trying to run out the clock on a 1-0 lead, it backfired on them against Argentina in the 1990 semi-final and it backfired against South Korea more recently
and against France in a Euro championship Final
Take it easy, man. This thread is to talk about & enjoy the WC and the game. Your stuff is starting to sound like a PPP type crusade.

Kinda impressed by Russia too. They have the home thing going on and that big dude up front is capable...even though Egypt w/o Salah fairly toothless.
Predicting Iran over Spain for upset of the tournament tomorrow in a year with no real powerhouses.
Yes on Russia, really impressive, and unexpected.
That’s a bold prediction. I’m thinking Spain wins by 2 or 3, but who knows?

Loved Japan’s effort against Columbia today. I loved the spirit. They had 1-1 and a man advantage and they did not play for the draw. They kept attacking and it paid off.

Haha, no, I wasn’t aware. I’m not on face book. But may they fly on, fly on little wing.

Autumn, for me, is Neil Young’s season. I love a lot of Neil, but the On The Beach record (my personal favorite of his) always gets played a bunch in the fall.
i got nothin’ against Skynyrd, but I like Neil Young better. So many great memorable songs.
Also, in defense of Les Pauls, they’re a fine guitar. In fact Neil’s favorite electric, “Old Black,” is a ‘53 Les Paul.

Huge win for Mexico! I love it. Good stuff for CONCACAF.

Mexico doing really well so far, up 1-0 at the half. I hope they can hold on, but it will be tough.

1-1!
Awesome job by Iceland!

I picked Abbey Road too, but several others are just as good. On a different day I might have voted differently. I celebrate their entire catalogue.

Come on, Iceland, hang in there.

Random prediction: Australia gets a result against France on Saturday, a draw at least.

What a game! Great football!

Spain/Portugal predictions?
I say 1-0 Spain
I'm guessing it will be a wide open, exciting game. 2-1 Portugal.

Anyone going to try to go to a WC game in 2026? I am thinking tickets are going to be hard to come by. And expensive.
Yes. I'm in Atlanta and I suspect that some games will be here. My daughter will be 15 in 2026, so I hope to take her. I won't mind spending some money on that experience.

Iceland was not in the 2014 World Cup. What you remember is the Euro 2016.
Oh crap, you're right! My mind has turned to mush.

Heard this on GR this morning..pretty cool/funny for us soccer neophytes with no rooting interest ...it is a short quiz to see who SHOULD be your team based on your sporting preferences.

Mine came out Peru!!!!
Australia for me. They aren't my number one, but they are fun to watch.
I like teams that come to play even if they're outmatched. I don't like it when teams bunker in and try for the 0-0 draw or hope maybe some lucky fluke goes in their favor right at the end. That's Dick Jauron type stuff. That's why Iceland was so great to watch 4 years ago. They weren't intimidated by superstars. They went out there and played the game.

OK Portugal plays tomorrow and I need to know where I can stream the game while at work
I wish I knew. I think you might be able to take advantage of this 7 day free trial of Fubo to be able to see the game tomorrow...
I have not tried it myself, so I can't vouch.

England vs. Belgium on Thursday will be a great one too. That's a game I have highlighted on my soccer nerd schedule.
