  1. As a big fan of the USMNT, it's kind of like, for a Bills fan, if the Bills bombed out so bad, they were not even allowed to play in the NFL next year. So, of course you knew they weren't going to win the superbowl,...you knew they probably would miss the playoffs yet again, but you still wanted to at least get to watch them play some games. But nope. Oh, well...
  2. Hey Gug. Obviously, the "entire U.S" is not invested in this. For the few of us that follow this, it's a big deal and it sucks.
  3. Trump hasn't kicked Mexico out of North America just yet. They take soccer pretty seriously. ...and, they showed themselves to be the class of CONCACAF once again. Plus they managed to play this last game just soft enough to help the USA get knocked out. Well done, El Tri.
  4. I'm destroyed. Complete shame for USA soccer. !@#$ed.
  5. I can't believe it. I'm !@#$ing heart sick. This sucks. Lots of blame to go around. Don't know what else to say. The USA program is totally lost.
  6. And Iceland was amazing in that tournament. Of course, not as amazing as your beloved Portugal, who won the freakin' thing.
  7. The CONMEBOL playoff will be with OFC (New Zealand). CONCACAF's playoff will be against AFC (Australia).
  8. My understanding is that the playoff will be against a team from Asia (AFC), so it would be against Australia, two legs in November. But yeah, best not to deal with that at all. It's bad enough that the USA is now consistently the 3rd best in this region, behind Mexico and Costa Rica.
  9. USMNT needs to not lose to Trinidad & Tobago tonight in order to take the third & final confirmed WC spot for CONCACAF. If they lose, they could slip to 4th place, which would mean a playoff situation, or to 5th which would mean elimination. Should be no problem to get the win or draw tonight, but the game's at T&T, the field is water-logged and T&T has nothing to lose. No English speaking networks are carrying the game, so I'll watch in Spanish on Universo.
  10. I agree that Hillary's book (and most of her words & actions since the election) makes her look "bewildered, angry and confused." I happen to think that Hillary is a firecracker to Trump's nuclear arsenal on the scale of incendiary incompetence, but I guess that doesn't matter much at this point. The adult day care center is our nation as a whole. Buncha !@#$ing idiots we are. We broke it; we bought it.
  11. Well, in George's defense, he's just trying to be very clear and precise here. He's not one for a lot of symbolism or subtlety. He wants the listener to make no mistake about the fact that when he's drinking, he literally does not want other individuals to be located in that immediate vicinity during the time that he continues to imbibe. It's as if to say, please don't interpret this as some existential statement about alienation or the disconnectedness of modern man. It's nothing like that--he's not interested in any crap like that. He just very simply does not want any mofos hanging around while he gets his swerve on. Gool old George, king of the single entendre.
  12. Is Joe P. a piece of trash? yes Is Trump a dick? yes Did Trump pardon Joe P. as a wink and a nod and a reacharound to his creepy base? yes Is it frivolous to try to get the pardon overturned? yes Does the left look foolish for fighting a frivolous unwinnable battle like this? yes Is the whole thing a huge clusterbannon where nobody wins or looks good? yes I'm feeling optimistic. It's just a YES kind of day.
  13. I agree that Tillerson calling Trump a ****ing moron is not really newsworthy. What we need reporting on is: which of the other cabinet members have NOT called him a moron, and WHY. I'm looking at you, Pence! You milquetoast bastard. You smirking dotard.
  14. Jesus. !@#$ing nevermind. I was just curious to discuss a movie I liked. You're not interested, but you keep replying in this thread. Why? To interject what? This isn't PPP over here. It's just a movie. There's no ax to grind.
  15. I was aware of the bad reviews. I suspected that this wasn't just a case of a bad movie and people reporting that. After seeing it, my suspicion was confirmed: it's actually a very well-made movie that happens to rub people the wrong way. I liked the movie a lot.
  16. So, I was curious about this movie because I had heard that many people had extreme reactions to it. It seems to be quite intensely hated by a lot of people. I liked it. I appreciated the allegory of it. Some of the symbolism was so on the nose, that I kind of laughed a little in parts, but I enjoyed it. I think many who saw it as some kind of political statement or otherwise narrow agenda-push missed the point. It was way more fundamental than that. I saw it as a fever dream exploration of yin vs. yang in the most abstract terms. Maybe Nature vs. Human Nature describes the theme. For what it was, I found it intense, funny and entertaining. I do understand why someone could not like it for style reasons. Aronofsky is often annoyingly aggressive in the way his movies are shot. The constant hyper-close-ups and shaky camera can be exhausting. His style has kind of pissed me off before, but I thought it worked for this movie. Anyone else see it & have thoughts about it?
  17. “The two party system is wonderful and terrific. It ensures fairness and legitimate representation of disparate viewpoints with checks and balances in place to further the healthy dialectic that nourishes our democracy.” - Nobody at this point
