  1. Congratulations on the cute puppy! My name suggestion: "Tim Howard." Or "Jozy"
  2. Is it too late for me to cash in on this? Holy sh#%balls! That makes me feel real good! I agree that Howard was man of the match. But everyone out there showed heart. Just awesome!
  3. Thanks. I've never owned either of those two breeds, but I have friends who have. In my experience, you can't go wrong either way. Dogs are the best!
  4. One vote for a mutt (preferably a rescue mutt). If you find a dog half as good as my Bille (see profile pic), your life will be much embiggened.
  5. I can't believe I missed this game. I meant to record it, but forgot. Figures. I suffer through all the heartbreak but miss the one great moment. D'oh! Maybe they'll pull off another miracle against Spain.
  6. Thanks a lot you guys! I have a lot of fun goofin' around with you nutty bastards!
  7. Actually, I'm quite impressed with Lana's aggressive play. She has good vision and instincts moving forward. Excellent ball skills and she is not afraid to score.
  8. At a previous job, we had a really dumb receptionist. ("How dumb was she?"). She was so dumb, we used to mess with her. One day she was ordering more paper for the fax machine (we were out) and said Office Depot couldn't deliver until the next morning. I told her to call them back and just have them fax us a couple hundred blank sheets. She picked up the phone and started dialing.
  9. I got out of bed this morning. BIG mistake.
  10. The student loan route can be painful. I remember the Financial Aid office at Geneseo was a scary place. I had to go there all the time because there's always some problem with student loans, like they get delayed for several weeks or you get much less than was estimated. It was not unusual to see people crying there. There were a couple times that I thought my college career was over because my loans did not come in on time and the college would not let me register for classes for the upcoming semester. I thought they would cut me some slack because I was always a good student (3.7 gpa)--no dice. It was always a battle. Not to mention having to beg my landlord for extensions. I'm sure it's much worse today.
  11. I was a weird kid. I wanted to be like Branko (Segota, of the Rochester Lancers). Anyway, I don't mind if soccer remains a second tier sport here. I kind of like the underdog role. If the U.S. wins a WC in my lifetime, it's gonna be amazing. I remember the 1980 Olympic hockey team. I want to experience that feeling again.
  12. So true. It's strange though, that soccer is really big here with little kids. Almost everyone I know played soccer in some sort of rec. league when they were little. Why it doesn't carry over into high school and beyond, I don't really know.
  13. Congrats to Gordio and his "little swimmers!" Cheers!
  14. Reminder: Set your dvr's for USA vs. Brazil. Thursday 6/18 at 10am ET on ESPN2. I'm getting that feeling. That feeling that something amazing is about to happen.
  15. You may be right, but who do you think will be the WC champs? Spain? Argentina? I can't think of anyone else that really has it all together right now. It could be kind of wide open for a sleeper nation to make a run. I'm getting excited already. The only thing I'm worried about is those South African fans with those damn horns that never stop. Every game sounds like a plague of locusts.
  16. Good effort overall. They showed real hustle and courage in the first half. They faded some in the second half, but it's understandable. The red card changes the game. I agree about Spector. Good skills and his intelligence and heart elevate the whole team's play. When Cherundolo comes back, they will make a good back line with Onyewu and Bocanegra / DeMerit. I like seeing Feilhaber get the start. He's a little rusty, but I've always felt that he has superior instincts moving the ball forward. I want him to have a chance to earn a starting spot for next summer. Bradley played very well today, but he pisses it all away with that sad near-whiff on a great ball from Donovan. Every time I see Beasley with the ball, I feel uneasy. He just never makes a quality play. For a left winger, he is just miserable at delivering crosses from that side. I'm encouraged by the effort, but unsatisfied with having the game ruined somewhat by the early red card. I hope the U.S. players are as anxious as I am to take out some frustration against Brazil on Thursday.
