If and when the Jags ascend, it’s not because of their schedule. It’s because of the coach fit and a young, deep, talented roster. Also because of a QB who might very well become the next guy behind only Mahomes and Burrow as soon as this season.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
Airseven replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Now Hopkins to the Pats actually makes sense. -
Not that I watch a lot of these content shows, but I find Cowherd to be very articulate and insightful. He’s able to carry a show without an abundance of guest spots nor scripted debates.

I prefer to be the team cutting players past the summit as opposed to signing them.

Two of White, Jackson, and Elam will start depending on camp/health. All three will make the roster presumably. Johnson locked into the slot. Depth includes Dantzler, Benford, and Lewis. It’ll be interesting to see how seriously they push Benford/Lewis toward the fourth safety spot. Neal is a CB in title only. Austin will be cut/PS. White Jackson Johnson Elam Benford/Lewis/Dantzler (1 CB, 1 S, 1 cut) Neal (6)

I like this guy. Really hope he elevates his game coming to Buffalo much like Hyde and Poyer before him.

Beane has done a poor job with both lines. He wastes money and resources on one and tosses leftover scraps to the other.
-
The Oliver extension adds money to the cap, an extension that presumably helped Beane fit Floyd. Next year, Floyd will be gone, Oliver will be overpaid, and they’ll still need pass rush help.
-
Yes, as I said, the contract isn’t a concern. The concern is relying on vets approaching the downturn in their careers as quick-fix solutions. Floyd may or may not be productive/healthy this season at 31, but either way, Beane will be in the same situation next year with even more money dedicated to the DL and still needing pass rush help.
-
Not being negative. The contract is probably decent. He’s not getting top dollar signing this late. The risk, simply put, is relying on players into their 30s when the drop off in production/injuries is right around the corner. The defense needed another pass rusher desperately, so he fits. I get it.
-
He’ll be 31 when the season starts. I’d prefer some of Beane’s draft picks actually pan out instead of having to sign these risky vets.

How will the defense be different this year?
Airseven replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t expect a significant philosophical difference. This has been McDermott’s defense. -
Pro Bowl is sort of like winning a Grammy these days - entirely meaningless. All Pro is still a worthy recognition.
-
He’s compensating for past mistakes along the DL by now overpaying. That can be a dangerous snowball effect for a team in cap jail.

Speculation: Could an extension for Gabe Davis be coming too?
Airseven replied to akcash's topic in The Stadium Wall
I still have faith in Davis. His issues are mental not physical and can still be corrected/improved. That being said, they can’t afford to give into the temptation to overpay him. He’s replaceable. -
So what? They stat pad against bad teams. And then get eliminated in embarrassing fashion when it truly counts.
-
They got their championship so it doesn’t matter. They’re rebuilding as is the typical sports cycle.
-
Fair point. But that doesn’t justify this contract. This is difference-maker money. Oliver is just a cog.
-
Beane and McDermott have peaked with the Bills. This is the type of desperate move you see on the backend of a regime. It justifies their past moves as opposed to maximizing them.
-
It’s in character. Consider the money and resources Beane has wasted on the DL.

Von Miller prediction thread-when will he return to the lineup?
Airseven replied to TBBills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ll say he returns in limited action week 8 but won’t have a noticeable impact all year. Hopefully that contract can bear fruit in 2024 before he’s likely released. -
The real issue here is why Beane committed to him going into his age 33 season and after said injuries.
