I think it will depend on who falls of course. If a DT they have in their top 15 falls to them they will grab him. Otherwise I agree, I think edge or cb becomes much more likely.

Everybody understands that this is a short term, backup safety depth move right? There is no way he is starting this year, and there is always the possibility he doesn't make the final roster. In light of that this is a solid move.

All in all, looking at the realities of the situation this is a good deal. It's NOT an overpay in that sense. He is a good edge run defender and he is a " good" pass rusher. The question is, can he make that jump to be an impact rusher? You watch him, and game in and game out he gets THISCLOSE to the QB but can't seem to finish the deal. Can he close that gap?? That's the question going forward that will determine if this contract was good in the long run.

Have to take a hard look at this defense approach. Because either it's not good and then McDermott has to be willing to change or Beane has to find a way to find the right players for it, but this D is killing us EVERY YEAR in the playoffs.

THIS!!!! Beane and McDermott have to make a big decision here. He has insisted on his version of the Tampa 2 D which requires a IMPACT DT and LB, and also preferably a safety. Beane can't seem to provide that. In addition McDermott cannot seem to come up with a defensive plan to limit teams when absolutely needed. Four years of this now. 29 points should have been enough, KC didnt score 30 all year, 18 games! In my opinion but I'm sure won't happen, is that McDermott needs to hire an experienced successful AGRESSIVE DC and get the hell out of the way. But for now it feels like we will do the repeat and rinse.

No, a game changing pass rusher is and has been our number one need for YEARS now, and it has cost us in games like this every playoff loss. I agree a speed WR is a very big need though for sure.
