I like that you're thinking outside the box a bit. Sounds good. What's her name?

Bill Bergey Joins the Choir Eternal
Sierra Foothills replied to Old Coot's topic in The Stadium Wall
When I was researching my earlier post on his career, there were a few other items in his Wiki article that I didn't mention because there was already so many accomplishments in his life. However, in addition to his professional accomplishments as a collegian Bergey despite the fact that some of his "southern schoolmates would physically fight with the "Yankee" from Western New York, and his actual time at ASU in Jonesboro was difficult" accomplished the following: was an All-American for the Arkansas State Indians (now Red Wolves) and has since been voted by fans the Top Player in Arkansas State history. while at ASU set records for best tackling average in a season, most fumble recoveries in a season, most tackles in a game, most tackles in a season, and most career tackles. He once had 33 tackles in a single game, and averaged 19.6 tackles per game in 1968. played in three post-season all-star games during his ASU career (the Senior Bowl, the North-South Game, and one of the last Chicago All-Star games, against the New York Jets. was selected to the All-Southland Conference team three times and to the Southland Conference All-First Decade Team. jersey number 66 was retired by ASU, and he was the first person to go up on its Wall of Fame. Off the football field: was a charter member of Delta Eta chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at ASU. graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, and a commission in the Army Reserves. during his playing days, Bergey served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. served as a color commentator on radio broadcasts of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1982 to 1983, and did pre-game and post-game radio and television commentary for the team during the season for over 20 years. was a plaintiff in the concussion related lawsuit against the NFL filed and settled in a Philadelphia federal court. is a member of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame (2004). In 1989, he became a member of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2021 and determinedly fought in response to the disease, finding encouragement and inspiration from others, including former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly Other points of interest: Bergey had conflicts with guard Conrad Dobler of the Eagles' NFC East rival St. Louis Cardinals, who once spit on him while he was downed and injured. His and Dobler's volatile relationship was ranked by NFL Films at No. 9 on the NFL Top 10 list of feuds. In the film Silver Linings Playbook, Robert De Niro’s character Pat Solitano Sr., an Eagles fanatic, wears a number 66 Bill Bergey jersey. -
Rapp has arguably been the Bills best defensive player this year and his injury had the biggest negative affect on the defense. He's been one of the best safeties in the league this year, IMO.

This would be better satire if they were made to sign the NDA before entering the stadium. (But thanks for posting all the same) And then he took that motivation and used it to propel himself to a Hall of... oh never mind. 🙂 The functionality (i.e. - fast forward) could be better but I had not problem with the actual feed at my end. And the picture was immaculate. But I'm highly annoyed that streaming is growing and even more, that the NFL is fragmenting their packages so we have to subscribe to more services in order to watch the games. That's the real evil IMO. Also Bishop, Elam, and Solomon. Actually you're one of a group of people here that are crusading about not winning/not caring about the MVP... that are at least as heavily invested in your viewpoints than those here who would like to see Josh win it. While I'm sure Josh cares more about winning the Super Bowl than the MVP... 1) Josh is an ultra-competitive guy so there's no way that he doesn't care 2) As clearly demonstrated by his teammates giving him the MVP bling, THEY CARE very much who wins it as it's often viewed as a team award... and those guys LOVE Josh and want him to win it 3) It's a career/legacy award so you're probably downplaying it more than the team/Josh are 4) Many here would love to see Josh win it because of the long-overdue recognition it would bring him So regardless of how we as individuals feel about him winning the award (or wanting to win the award) it's a big deal and an essential part of the narrative surrounding this game. Personally I don't foresee an MVP-clinching performance in this game... I just don't get the feeling it's gonna happen but I would love to be wrong. Beyond the player himself, there's also the burden of drafting his Stage Mom/Little League Dad parent. This is another reason I'm not feeling a big performance on Sunday. Josh has an established history of downplaying and playing through pretty significant injuries which hurt his performance. He injured his shoulder against the Lions. His arm/hand has gone numb a couple of times since then. The Bills better be doing everything they can to protect Josh from himself. You're not wrong but the Jets Super Bowl win is pretty meaningless at this point. The Jets fans I talk to never bring it up. I always mention it to make them feel better. Consider: All-Time Bills-Jets Record: Bills 70 Jets 58 Bills All-Time Winning Percentage: .480 Jets All-Time Winning Percentage: .448 Bills winning percentage during 17 year drought: .412 Jets winning percentage during current 14 year drought: .358 Finally, consider this question: How many Bills fans would trade the promise of the future for a Super Bowl win in 1969? Fixed Seems to me they should also bring in Keon Coleman. Regarding Davante Adams, he won't be with the Jets next year so from the Jets' standpoint there's nothing to save him for. Also he wants to catch Rodgers' 500th career TD pass. I believe he caught Rodgers' 100th and 400th career TD passes. Rodgers is currently poised at 499.

Oh good. When they bought the Arlington Park location I thought it was being viewed as a foregone conclusion. -

I have a feeling he knows where he wants to go and I'm pretty sure it's not Buffalo. -
Greg Gumbel RIP- Sorry had Bryant's name on this first.

I loved the suggestion here that broadcasts/livestreams have the option of crowd noise only, blocking out the announcers completely. Almost every NFL play-by-play guy has annoyed the crap out of me and pissed me off on a pretty regular basis. I'm one of those guys who naturally blocks out the diarrhea coming out of their mouths. Often I'll be asked who the announcing crew is and I won't know the answer. Greg Gumbel was one of the few exceptions. He was an easy listen, an astute observer and all-around super solid. He was very likable to boot. RIP Greg. -

From Wiki: Filming Planes, Trains and Automobiles began filming in February 1987 and lasted 85 days. It was filmed mostly in Batavia, New York, and South Dayton, New York. A scene that takes place in St. Louis was filmed at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. There was also a scene in Braidwood, Illinois, at the Sun Motel, as well as a scene in Woodstock, Illinois, where the city's old courthouse was shown. Bill Bergey The Pride of South Dayton, NY -
To those insisting on holding his poor playoff record against him... yes Lamar's history is not stellar but be careful what you wish for (or don't). It looks to me like Josh and Lamar are on a crash course with the expected collision on or about January 18th. Firstly Josh Allen is my favorite athlete of all time and I would take him over any other QB because of a combination of how I feel about him and what a great player he is. That said, like Simon above, I'm also guilty of judging Lamar... a premature and "permanent" judgement that Lamar has proven wrong. Though Derrick Henry has complicated the evaluation somewhat, there's absolutely zero doubt in objective minds that Lamar has improved every year and become one of the top 3 QBs. In 7 games in his NFL career, Lamar has thrown for more TD passes than incompletions. This is an NFL record. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees accomplished this 6 times. Josh Allen has accomplished this feat exactly twice. Mahomes has done it three times. This is a feat that cannot be done by anyone other than an elite passer. And those saying that Mahomes is overrated are either oblivious or dishonest. Anyone who saw the Steelers game exactly 2 days ago knows Mahomes is as great as ever... or they don't understand the game of football.

Thank you very much for posting this. I was hoping someone would. Also the same corner of the world which brought us Shane Conlan (Frewsburg). In fact Bergey attended Pine Valley High School which is a rival of Frewsburg. For those not familiar, South Dayton is virtually next to Gowanda, the village that straddles Erie and Cattaragus Counties. South Dayton is where some of the scenes from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was filmed. It's also on the edge of WNY Amish Country. In addition to his highly-decorated collegiate career, Bergey was: AFL Defensive Rookie of the Year A member of the Cincinnati Bengals All-Time Team A member of the Philadelphia Eagles HOF A 5-time Pro Bowler back when the Pro Bowl actually meant something A 5-time All Pro (twice 1st Team, three times 2nd Team) Tied for 10 all time among LBs with 27 career interceptions Runner up to Mean Joe Greene for 1974 Defensive Player of the Year He played in the era where RBs were the biggest stars on offense and MLBs the biggest starts on defense. Aside from his well above-average skill for intercepting the ball, Bergey was a prototypical run plugging, stack and shed linebacker. He was listed at 6'4 and 245 at a time when players were considerably smaller than they are today. Bergey came after the golden era of MLBs (Chuck Bednarik, Sam Huff, Ray Nietschke, Bill George, Harry Jacobs and Joe Schmidt). Some of his contemporaries at the position were Dick Butkus, Nick Buoniconti, Tommy Nobis, Willie Lanier, Mike Curtis and LeRoy Jordan. Bergey is one of the many great, borderline HOFers who history will mostly forget. RIP -

Speaking of which, counter to the general move of stadiums back towards city centers, the Bears are going to build their new stadium in suburban Arlington Park. To me it seems very wrong to move the Bears stadium out of downtown Chicago. -

On the other hand I'm blown away by his talent. He's a rookie, possibly playing in a bad system. -

How many QBs in the NFL can make that play? Followed by that one. -

For Seahawks fans this must seem like a slow motion train wreck with the Bears driving as it ticks down to the 2 minute warning. For the record, the Seahawks are minus 4.5 in this game. -

Wayne Gretzky said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Joe Montana said "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying." It's really quite a battle of the wills... neither side wants to back down. Who will be the first to blink? -

I believe he's a graduate of the Rob Johnson Quarterback Academy in Mission Viejo. Are you the Negan that got into it with Spencer that @4merper4mer was talking about? -

You have to trust the process in order to understand. Is there a scenario where it would actually make sense to punt on a down other than 4th down? I'm asking because I don't actually want to do the mental gymnastics. If I stop watching at 2:45 does that change anything? Shhhhh... would you keep it down please? It was in 1999 when TiVo was first rolled out... we live in great times... -

Pursuant to nothing but are you familiar with the phenomenon known as "Contagious Crying?" There is something about having a ridiculously talented rookie QB which is helpful when your team sucks. -

The field looks better than anything else tonight. I can't believe how well it's held up... so I found this: https://www.soldierfield.com/stadium-info/about#:~:text=The playing field at Soldier, for both football and soccer. "The playing field at Soldier Field is a natural grass field (Kentucky blue-grass and rye blend). The field is resodded multiple times per year with consultation from the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Fire as it is the preferred surface for both football and soccer. Nine inches below the root zone, more than 20 miles of ¾-inch plastic tubing circulates warm water and glycol (to prevent freezing), in a radiant heating system that extends the grass’ growing season. It also helps melt snow and keep the ground from freezing, so the surface remains pliable." I wonder if this will be what we're installing in the new stadium. -

Nothing specific, he's just made a few youthful errors. Joe Flacco, Jameis Winston, and Geno Smith walk into a bar...
