  1. You mean kind of like Survivor? Excuse me but would you happen to know what "sciard" means? It really gets huge ratings? That raises the question WTF is watching because what they do on that field makes a mockery of football.
  2. The distinction I refer to also has to do with the differences in the sports, injury risk, catastrophic injury risk, length of career, etc.
  3. Or, the system sucks and will evolve into something better. On a related note, I don't view NFL players the same way I view MLB or NBA players. It's a very different deal all around for various reasons. Some people fail to understand this distinction.
  4. Vince Ferragamo threw a pretty ball too. If you repeat something enough times... Crazy-ass coincidence that Mac, Zack, and Tua are all in the best shape of their lives isn't it? This summer marks my 3rd year of hang gliding lessons... You seem to worry a lot. Is that a new word that the cool kids are using? Excuse me but do you happen to know what sciard means? Funny, I'm not feeling any fear... anyone?
  5. I recall Bills games from 1968 so I'm kind of old... at least according to my birth certificate. As such I'm not a big fan of the quick passage of time meaning I'm not in a big hurry for Bills-Rams to get here. I'd rather live the next 3+ months of my life than fast forward past it. Every day good or bad is a blessing to savor. That said, I do have the date (9/8/22) circled on my calendar and will be more than ready when another Bills season kicks off that evening. On a related thought, virtually all my sports fandom has boiled down to just the Bills... I don't follow MLB, NHL, or NBA anymore except for occasionally checking scores and standings and reading the odd story. But 95% of my sports fandom revolves around the Bills and the NFL which is a big change from when I was a kid. Now in contrast to before, I'm too busy living my own life to care much about entertainment... except when it comes to the Bills.
  6. I worked as an arborist for 10 years and have worked construction for most of my working life... over 30 years. Not that they're all the same build but farm boys have a strength you get from working long hours of physical labor from a young age. They also develop a strong sense of leverages and biomechanics. Josh is definitely farmer strong.
  7. I closed many a bar in my time in Buffalo. Sometimes the night would end at a Perkins Pancake House or the Towne Restaurant. Sometimes at Panos. I remember emptying my pockets on the night stand before passing out in bed. There would be something like 3 crumpled up singles and 37 cents in change. Two guys I use to run with a lot are gone... one suicide and one murdered. I had another friend who fell down the stairs at Molly's Pub (or was it Merlin's?), broke his neck and died. Not sure why I was spared. I'm grateful to still be here.
  8. So do the other players not in attendance have a better or a worse reason to not participate than Poyer? That was my thought too. We're all super excited about Von Miller being a Bill but saying he's #1 in our hearts is far from accurate. It was a lazy attempt at turning a phrase.
  9. Good stuff WEO. Yes, the Raiders greatly aided and abetted Gruden's Super Bowl win.
  10. First all, thanks for posting Shaw66. Great topic. There are so many tangents in this topic that there's no need to change the title... too many simultaneously moving targets. Lake Erie was so beautiful back then... I agree with you and Alpha. The Bills simply strived to get as high in the 2018 draft as possible knowing that their prime directive was to draft a QB in that draft. They made 3 trades to this end including the Sammy Watkins and Cordy Glenn trades. In addition as the draft approached it's pretty well documented that Josh was their guy. The only luck is when the Jets outmaneuvered us by leapfrogging us (a brilliant stroke) but took Sam Darnold. Mr Rogers? The kids show host? Dunno about that one. McDermott projects as a hyper-intense, Type A guy who knows his flaws and has tried to downshift towards normality but I don't think there's any part of him that's warm and fuzzy. The thing about McDermott is that he has a degree in Finance from William and Mary so he's no dilettante or ignoramus striving to be learned. It's really important to point out that there have been almost countless examples of championship level-talented teams that have failed miserably. Those who reduce championships to talent are way oversimplified IMO. One thing that makes all the difference when counting championship rings is the ability to coach superstars. This is where a small handful of coaches succeed where others fail. Count me in the camp that Gruden is way overrated. His Super Bowl win was gift wrapped by Bill Callahan who didn't even bother changing any schemes, strategies, or terminology from Gruden who had coached the Raiders the very previous season. Tampa Bay knew every audible on both sides of the ball. It's almost impossible to overstate the gross negligence committed by the Raiders.
  11. OP, Thanks for posting the link. During college Shakir returned 7 kickoffs for 167 yards (23.9 per) and 24 punts for 180 yards (7.5 yards per). Last year was his best year as a returner with 2 kickoffs for 57 yards (28.5 per) and 9 punts for 115 yards (12.8). https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/khalil-shakir-player-stats?category=returning&seasonType=reg
  12. That was a really nice video, thanks for posting. It was a great story idea by NFL films too. I loved Schlopy's little aside about Jim Harbaugh... funny but not surprising. I worked that game in a media capacity. Several Bills had crossed the picket line by that time, Will Grant, Rob Riddick and a few others. Schlopy was 2-5 in FGs in that game. I remember Lawrence Taylor lining up at tight end and going out into the pattern. After the game in the locker room after answering questions from the media corps, Schlopy was then the recipient of lots of hand shakes and backslapping from said media corps. Totally unprofessional but so was the football game.
  13. Or you know... brain damage. Fun relevant fact: Jim Kelly career earnings: $21.78 million Nathan Peterman career earnings: $4.49 million
  14. On top of that, here's one of his statements to the Fox piece that was linked upthread: ''I have no regrets and I appreciate the organization, Buffalo, their fans and (Bills owner) Ralph (Wilson) for putting me in this position where I was able to play for nine years. I'm not going to say anything bad about them and I wish them the best.'' "He's not gonna say anything bad about them." Clearly he harbors no animosity towards the Bills. 😆 and Dickies work pants and carrying a Stanley thermos. I just pm'd you. I have a nice Sprinter Van RV we can use as the operations field office. There are some here who believe that some NFL players are paying... ah never mind.
  15. Mine? I didn't feel anything. I don't think success will go to his head. My fear for Josh is that he will get too musclebound and lose his athleticism.
  16. But it's their decision. You have to respect it. The Saints could release Brees or trade him as the Cheatriots did with Gronkowski. Considering what he did for the Saints I highly doubt they would obstruct him if he wished to return to the NFL.
  17. On the one hand you never underestimate a divisional foe. Those games are usually hard fought and teams rarely lie down to teams in their division. On the other hand, Brady went 32-3 vs the Bills so the above sentence only carries so much weight.
  18. If you read the dateline in the link (https://atozsports.com/nashville/taylor-lewan-makes-statement-that-completely-discredits-pro-football-focus/) the article was published on Thursday... 3 days ago. If there was any credence to Lewan's allegations, other media outlets would have "picked it up" and started digging into this. In particular Pro Football Talk founder Mike Florio would be all over this story. He isn't. In fact PFT hasn't even mentioned this story and they are the kings of clickbait. IMO Lewan should be hoping the story dies because if it doesn't, the likely outcome is that he'll be the one in trouble, not PFF. On a related subject when you speak with those who believe in conspiracy theories (pick one, any one) they're always at a loss to explain how those committing the conspiracies (Chemtrails for instance) are able to keep them secret. IMO if NFL players were paying $50K to boost their PFF ratings it would be pretty easy to find out and pretty damn hard to keep it a secret. All it would take is one disgruntled employee, or an employee who has a pang of consciousness, or an employee under oath deciding not to lie. Or the confession of an NFL player saying that he did nothing wrong... or... you get the idea. I've been wrong plenty of times but I don't believe Lewan's claim at all. That dude is a fail on so many levels... including trying to be irreverent and provocative on an informal pop culture sports site.
  19. The one thing I'll add to this topic is that last year the Bills ended up returning 51 players from the 2020 season. Clearly McBeane wasn't satisfied with the results of standing pat last year.
  20. Thank you for the great offseason summary! 👏👏👏
  21. I saw on his brother's Instagram this morning where they were castrating bulls.
  22. Pigs can be dangerous at times: "We report the case of a 49-year-old male found dead in his farm's pigsty, where a sow and her piglets were present. At the postmortem examination, numerous, severe blunt force injuries were observed on the body, with special regard to the upper extremities where massive injuries involving soft tissues, bones, and regional vessels, tendons, and nerves were present. The death resulted from severe bleeding from massive upper extremities injuries due to a domestic pig attack. Domestic pigs are usually placid but they can become aggressive if disturbed and attack humans producing severe injuries due to trampling, kicking and biting. Knowing the relevant anatomy, pattern of attack, and morphologies of wounds produced by particular animals can distinguish animal attacks from homicides, as well as attempt to identify the type of animal involved in an unwitnessed attack." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34106425/ I was driving through Gowanda years ago looking for Point Peter Rd in Zoar Valley. I stopped at a corner to ask directions from an older guy sitting at a bench. He got up, walked over, and looked at my map. Then his expression became confused and he said, "I'm not really good at reading maps, sorry." You're welcome.
  23. According to my calculations, his arms would have to be 74.375" long in order to makeup the difference between his 40 time and that of a CB who runs a 4.5.
  24. I thought so too. Still, if he runs afoul of the law, you're being help personally responsible.
