Heading into a draft where your glaring issues are with the OL and WR2? Yes
-
Speaking in terms of this year's draft anyway...making any defensive picks before at least the 4th round, IMO.
-
Yep, they do, except some make less mistakes than others and that's what separates great GMs from average or poor GMs. If you strike out with draft picks for a few years, that's going to catch up to you. You're left with too many holes to fill and you don't have the cap space to fill those holes from free agency. Beane needs to ace this year's draft to keep the Bills competitive.
-
I doubt CBS would be reporting it as a done deal if it weren't. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-head-coach-gm-interview-tracker-dolphins-land-vic-fangio-as-new-dc-rams-name-mike-lafleur-next-oc/

Brady threw for 4700 yards, 25 TDs and only 9 picks, which everyone considers a down year for him. Most teams in the league can only dream about getting that kind of production from the QB position. And based on the lack of talent Rodgers had to work with, it's not surprising he had a down year.
-
Hate the idea. They beat us with Zach Wilson for crying out loud. If they get a competent QB, nevermind a future HOFer, that's not good news. Would Rodgers want to play in NY? That's another question entirely.
-
I can only hypothesize that this FO and coaching staff look at the Miami game against Skylar Thompson and the drubbing at the hands of the Bengals as flukes if they are content with running it back with the same coaches outside of firing the friggin' Safeties coach. Which does go counter to what Beane said in his presser, where he said the Bengals have passed us up. OK, so what are you going to do about it then? Does he think it's simply a matter of not having the right players?
-
I've seen all I need to see out of Ed. He's had 4 seasons in the league now and hasn't shown me that he's any better than what's considered an average DT in the NFL. When you go back and look at players who were selected after Ed at #9 overall, it makes him look even worse. Beyond that, when you look at what we're paying him, it looks even worse than that.
-
Would much rather draft a top prospect WR in the first round who we would have under a rookie contract for a few years rather than paying millions on a 1-year contract in the hopes OBJ can return to form. We gave Saffold $6M to come here hoping he'd be at least somewhere close his former Pro Bowl self and that was a huge mistake.

What Are Your Expectations For The 2023 Season?
Billz4ever replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
I always, at a minimum, expect progress past the previous season. If they can't get past the divisional round, it's a bust in my view. Accepting anything less is letting the current coaching staff and FO off the hook. We've already had 2 straight years of getting bounced in the divisional round after reaching the AFCCG and this year's loss was particularly embarrassing. If the divisional round continues to be this team's peak, McD should be on the hot seat after next season if we don't at least get back to the Conference Championship, IMO. -
It’s obvious what ails the Bills, they’re softer than custard.

It would be nice if we had a more intense coaching staff. Intensity inspires intensity. Frazier is about as inspiring as a root canal. -
Normally I agree with that, but when you know where your glaring needs are like we do, that doesn't necessarily make sense anymore. If Beane plans on paying Edmunds, and say Trenton Simpson is the best player available on the board, it makes no sense for us to take him. LB is not a need.
-
I was thinking the same as far as trading back. If we could get another 3rd or 4th rounder by trading back into the 2nd if Rice or Boutte are gone, that might be the better play for us.
-
Yes, Flowers, Downs and Hyatt slot guys, which begs the question...if RIce and Boutte are gone by the time we're up, but one of those guys are still on the board, do we pull the trigger, or go OL in the 1st round and wait on WR?
-
Doubtful. If we want one of the better WR prospects, it's going to have to be in the first round. I think there's still plenty of quality OL to be had in the 2nd and 3rd and even the 4th.
-
Another TE is a want, not a need though. We have much more glaring issues than getting another TE, namely the OL and a true WR2.
-
I really think it needs to be one of the higher prospects. I don't want to see any reaches. There's never a guarantee that a draft pick develops into the player you need and what you want to do with him, but there's a greater likelihood that happens with a higher-level prospect and that they can immediately contribute. With the playing time Shakir got this year, they clearly didn't feel that way. Davis was a 4th round pick and they keep trying to claim he's our legit WR2 and I'm not seeing it. Get a Rice, Flowers, Downs or Hyatt and get Diggs and Josh some immediate help.
-
Agree with basically everything there. I'm of the opinion that if we want one of the top WR prospects, it's almost certainly going to have to come from the 1st round pick. I just don't see any of those bigger names still being there at the end of the 2nd.
-
Good grief...why do these have Patterson going so late? R5?
-
If Patterson drops to us in the 4th round, I'll eat my Allen jersey, lol.

With Oliver Value Goes Beyond the Stat Line
Billz4ever replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd like to see Ed traded, but I don't know if we'd get a taker. A 3rd rounder would be awesome, but probably wishful thinking. -
LMAO we get Downs and Rice, not to mention Johnson in the 1st. We can dream. I'd never question Beane again if he could somehow pull that off.
-
I don't think there's any possible way Hyatt falls to us at the end of the second. I've seen him rated as high as the #2 WR in the draft and most boards have him gone by later in the first. It would be incredible if he did though. If he was sitting there at 59, we'd better take him or Beane would have some 'splaining to do, lol.
