Having an Andy Reid and a Patrick Mahomes on the other side of the ball has a lot to do with that.
-
They are overperforming because we have Josh Allen and have managed to find value in the later rounds, but that's hard to sustain year after year. Later round picks are later round picks for a reason and are harder to hit on. If you keep whiffing on your top draft picks, it's eventually going to catch up to you.
-
Beane, you've got to be better at hitting on our top draft picks. You just can't be whiffing on picks years after year, especially top draft talent, and expect to remain in title contention. It's going to catch up to you eventually and the only reasons it hasn't with this organization is Josh Allen and the fact we've been pretty successful in developing later round picks. And...STOP trading with the Chiefs!!!!

I believe there's plenty of people here at TBD who would do what you suggested in a heartbeat. Hard to tell what's tongue-in-cheek vs what's serious these days.

Spags D is very personnel dependent. KC has more talent on defense than the Bills do to be able to make it work. Last 3 playoff games against the Chiefs the combines score is 95-89. The Chiefs are 6 points better against what most would consider a clearly inferior defense in terms of both personnel and coaching. Is Spags really that great?

While I would agree for the pass rush, but we still need to get better up front for stopping the run, especially when you have a team of smaller LBs and play a base nickel. I'm sick of seeing this defense get gashed for 10 yds a play at times on the ground throughout the season.
-
Yep, that's why they need to forget about bringing Von back and invest those savings into bringing in someone who will do exactly that. I honestly think Solomon could've given us 6 sacks this season if he got the playing time in passing situations.

Groot started the season promising, but seemed to fade as it went on. Epenesa will make a play once every couple games. This organization has the hardest time with assembling even an average front 4.

Lost in the sauce: Outstanding Performances vs KC
Billz4ever replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree with all of that. I think the interior of our D-line played well during this playoff run. I don't think we get past Baltimore even with the turnovers if they were playing like they were earlier in the year. I think our ends screwed the pooch against KC, particularly Groot. -
Kurt Warner breaks down the 4th down. Allen error?
Billz4ever replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I've said as much. Still a ball that should've been caught. -
Pass. I wasn't all that impressed with him this year. Our pass rush was still near non-existent much of the season.

It was almost like a Chief's spy got inside our playbook, threw out all the actual good plays and left the garbage that shouldn't be in there to begin with. Fade to Coleman with McDuffie there probably begging the Bills to try and throw it to the rookie? Are you kidding me? -

Was the throw ideal? Of course not. The fact Josh got the ball off at all is a miracle in itself, but that's a catch an NFL receiver should be able to make. Especially from a guy who was touted as having the best hands in the entire draft. I think he misjudged and made a bad adjustment to the ball. This season, I've soured on Kincaid and it didn't start with that miss. He just hasn't gotten open well this season and when he has, he's not a dependable target. I'm hoping he can have a good rebound season next year because if he doesn't, we traded up in the 1st round for a TE2 at best since he's not a great blocker either. Just my opinion on him at this snapshot in time. -

I'll never understand the logic that says a protection miscue is somehow worse than a receiver dropping a ball that hits him in the hands. Makes no sense. The protection problem isn't what cause the turnover on downs. The ball hitting the ground because the receiver didn't catch it did. -
Will there be any shock organizational moves in the coming days/weeks?
Billz4ever replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
Doubt we see any big changes on the coaching staff or rest of the FO although I think we should probably replace Smiley. There will surely be some changes to the roster. I hope the break with Von and hoping they aren't thinking about re-signing Douglas. I'm kinda mad they picked up Rousseau's option at this point and unless he has a standout season, I'm letting him walk after this season. Absolute no-show against KC. -

I mean that's really being a genius of the obvious. Spags loves sending pressure. It's not so much they were going to blitz, it's where the blitz was going to come from and that's the key. The Bills has protection left because as Torrence said, most of the game they were sending pressure from where it didn't look like pressure was coming pre-snap and backing off the guys who did show pressure. On the 4th down, they were showing pressure from the right, so that was their reasoning to have protection set left. Call it an error, call it a WAG, call it a decision based on the tendencies they saw basically all game. It was a great defensive call for the play the offense ran. -
good comments from Bills players in this new Athletic piece
Billz4ever replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
As much film as they watched, they somehow forgot to be able to contain on the edge. On all the Mahomes runs, no spy and no contain from the edge. Yeah, I'm looking at you Groot. -

No point keeping Von on the roster at this point. He's only a passing down edge rusher as it is and hasn't been great at that anyway. Make a clean break, move on from that mistake and as this team loves to say, "learn from it" and stop giving long term deals to guys on the wrong side of 30. -
I've got faith that Solomon will continue to get better. The knock on him is he's short, but he's high motor with a great first step and can fly around the edge. Because of his size, he can get swallowed up by a big OT who can stay ahead of him, but he is often able to compensate with his speed and bend. Not really an every down edge rusher, but certainly worth having in there in passing situations in our rotation to create some pressure that has been missing from our front 4 so often.

That could also potentially cause a tear in the space-time continuum. Almost like dividing by zero.

Totally agree. No reason for RB1 to not be out there in that situation. Cook might not have the hands Ty has, but he's still a threat to catch the ball and if nothing else, the Chiefs have to respect he's back there and account for him. Also, IMO he or whatever back is in there should be a check down option for Josh on basically every pass play. A simple toss out to a back in the flat is one of the easiest ways to beat a blitz. Going empty on the 4th down made it even easier to send heat and get in Josh's face.

Kurt Warner breaks down the 4th down. Allen error?
Billz4ever replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
What Josh does within the confines of this offense is repeatable and he does it often. When a play breaks down, he creates, which is what the other 3 QBs in the final 4 do, and is the why QB position is evolving. In the game of football, not everything always goes as planned and when that happens, you need a QB who can create or else you only have a robot for a QB who can't improvise when a play doesn't go as it was drawn up. -

It already has. If what you said was still the best, than the QBs in the final 4 wouldn't be there and the likely MVP wouldn't be the MVP.
