They already had 7 points on the board and were easily moving the ball on the second drive. What was going to all the sudden change to stop that?
-
Disagree. I think we probably would have lost that game Monday night. Yes, it was early and things can happen, but the D wasn't showing me anything that they could stop Burrow. Simply running a defense that basically relies on the offense making a mistake isn't going to work in playoff football against good teams. The only way we would've won that game Monday is if we were able to win in a shootout, which I didn't see happening. As far as KC goes, when we played them, we had Von harassing Mahomes all game long. We don't have that now and we are not getting pressure just rushing the front 4. Mahomes - Kelce is going to kill us if we cannot generate a pass rush. Getting into a shootout with Mahomes is also not a matchup I see us winning.

Let's not pretend these defensive struggles started yesterday.

I didn't say bring pressure every time, but if you never do, you're not only being predictable, you're saying you're OK with letting them move the ball down the field. And it was the times we brought pressure that accounted for many of those bad throws. As opposed to when we were dropping 7 and WRs were still catching the ball with a defender lucky to be within 5 yards?

Don't look now, but Bills rounding into playoff shape.

The only pressure we are getting is when we blitz. With just the front 4, it's almost non-existent. No push inside and off the edge, AJE gets pushed out of the play almost every time. Groot is the only one really putting in work out there. -

Cook has some crazy acceleration. In that QB option that Josh kept yesterday and took a loss rather than giving it to Cook, I seriously believe Cook may have taken it the distance on that play. If not, certainly a big gainer. It was a great win for sure, but we also need to remember 14 of those points came from ST, which we certainly should not be expecting every game. The Offense can't go dormant for like an entire half of the game and expect to win. -

Hate to say it, but at this point, I feel more comfortable with Diggs, Smoke, and Beasley than I do Diggs, Davis, and McKitrick. Unless Davis decides he's going to flip the playoff switch, I've seen about all I want to of him this season. -
Many think Miami should be an easy win. I very much disagree. They played us tough just a few weeks ago, and they were also able to run on us in that game.

That's another thing I'll never understand about Frazier's D. If we are often in the vanilla Cover 2 with the 2 deep safties, why would you not jam the receivers at the line? Even if a receiver does manage to put a move on the DB and get some separation, you have the safety help over the top. It's seems like they aren't taking advantage of what the defensive scheme allows you to do. Especially against play action and routes highly dependent on timing like NE was doing, messing up that timing should be the obvious goal.

If we play the typical rush 4 and drop 7, I think Burrow and Mahomes will pick us apart all game long. When we played KC last, we had Von, who was harassing Mahomes much of the game. We just don't have that with AJE and Basham. We are going to need to blitz to get pressure. If we don't, we are deciding we are OK with them marching down the field.
-
Jones 17/17, 3 TDs on their scoring drives, which were primarily against 4 rushing and 7 in coverage. Jones started making mistakes when we were bringing an extra rusher or two.
-
AJE is just frustrating to watch. He comes flying off the edge, tries to come around the corner and is then just pushed out of the play by the Tackle. Wash, rinse, repeat. Von is able to get around the edge and then turn it back up inside towards the QB and get real pressure. As you said, it's a clear lack of power since he's taken out of the play as soon as he tries to turn the corner towards the QB.
-
We also had Von then, who was getting pressure on Mahomes. Lack of a pass rush puts even more pressure on the secondary. That's why I'm in favor of blitzing more often.
-
I'd rather take the chance with the blitz and either get the sack or force the bad throw. Allowing the QB to sit back there with no pressure and find holes in the zone makes no sense to me and never has. Will you get burned by the blitz sometimes? Sure. That's how it goes, but when team's go on these long drives, that's also time Josh isn't on the field. They showed the stat yesterday that on the Pats scoring drives Jones was 17/17 with 3 TDs. Those were mainly with us rushing 4 and dropping 7 in coverage. I think we were pretty effective with our blitzing yesterday when we did and I hope to see it more.

Soft coverage is putting it mildly. It almost seems like they're just waiting for the receivers to catch the ball and then tackling. Having 7 guys in coverage and then seeing receivers catch the ball with a defender barely within 5 yards happens far too often.

There's definitely a time and place for the checkdowns. I have no problem with Josh creating and putting the ball where only the receiver can get it like on the TD to Smoke. Josh gets himself into trouble when he starts forcing the ball into double coverage, where the defenders have a better play on the ball than the receiver does. Those are the plays where the checkdowns are the correct answer. -

Yep it was. Shame he can't seem to even catch a cold. -
Yep, exactly like those 😂
-
Yep, thought it was going to be just out of reach, but Smoke was able to close the gap.
-
Over the shoulder grab diving forward? Nope. Gabe has had trouble making catches that would be considered pretty routine this year.
-
Smoke looks more ripped than I remember him.

Pretty insensitive. Would like to think it had nothing to do with #3, but sometimes some people are just jerks. -

I sure hope so because we can't afford an anemic offense against teams like KC and Cincy. If Tua is back next week, we need to be able to put up point too. They played us tough just a couple weeks ago. -

The call against Elam and the call against motor and Dion were both pretty lame. I think they balanced out though overall.
