  1. Were you one of the two people who voted "yes" to this poll? My grandmother is in the category of someone who still is afraid of giving her credit card number out over the internet or phone, but she loves myspace. She claims that if she didn't run errands like this then she would never leave the house. I really can understand that. If you are under 70 years old and you still feel the need to pay bills in person, then I really have a problem with you.
  2. Today I had to go to the Time Warner Cable office to return a friend's cable box. I actually had to wait in line behind about 6 or 7 people who were there to pay their bill!!!! I didn't know people still did that. These weren't old ladies either, they were fairly young people.
  3. My biggest mistake was bringing my collection to school so I could make trades at lunch. I'll never forgive Adam Oppenheimer for rooking me out of a Mark McGuire and a Jose Canseco for some no name pitcher from the Pirates. I was so mad when I got home a realized that I had been fleeced.
  4. The line was too long. Both, but I prefer beer.
  5. I started a pre-crash thread about heading to New Orleans for a conference. I just got back from the conference and would like to say that New Orleans is a great city and I had a blast. The conference was also quite productive. Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions.
  6. I only pee in my own shower and when I do it I aim straight for the drain. I really wouldn't care if everyone peed in my shower, BUT since some people are weird about it I don't pee if I'm at a public shower or somebody else's house. I also shave (my face) in the shower and make salad.
  7. She married the idiot. Never marry a guy who thinks a gun will also work as a drill.
  8. I think it really depends on where you buy. I know that neighborhood. Nothing has changed to make an outsider want to move TO that neighborhood. But Gordio's example in Lancaster is a little different.
  9. My opinion is not based on the opinion of others. I'm just trying to collect raw data and process it myself. I wish we could get news without commentary.
  10. According to China they already owned it so it wasn't an invasion.
  11. Old Pentium II - 350 mHz 256 MB RAM Two hard drives, so I can easily dual boot. This is just going to be for an email/web browsing/word processing terminal. Will it be difficult for me to install drivers for my PCI wireless card, and my sound card? That was the problem I had when I dabbled with Redhat way back in '99.
  12. I really don't think the situation in Tibet is black and white. Although it seems like the Chinese stance I just relayed sounds very much like propaganda, I do not think the Tibetans are completely innocent in this whole mess. I'm just wondering if anybody ever actually thinks about it, or if they just automatically decide that China=communism=bad, Tibet=religious freedom=good. How can we really know unless we've been to Tibet?
  13. I will summarize one man's point of view. I'm assuming that this is one felt by many Chinese loyalists: Tibet claims they want autonomy so they can practice their religion without interference from the Chinese government. According to the Chinese, this is a just an excuse. Tibet really wants autonomy so that high up Tibetan Lamas can fully control their feudal society where the poor stay poor and the rich get richer, essentially use slave labor. The Dalai Lama, who was thrown into a political role as a young boy, is just a pawn used by some secret group of Tibetan higher ups.
  14. In college I took a class about Tibetan Buddhism. I read the Dalai Lama's autobiography "My Land and My People". The Beastie Boys told me to Free Tibet, so I was down with freeing Tibet. That was almost ten years ago. Since then I've become close friends with many Chinese people who give me their side of the story. I also saw the Dalai Lama speak at UB last year and was unimpressed. In light of the recent protests, I'm wondering what the heck the point is. When westerners say "Free Tibet" do they really know: 1. What Tibetans actually want? 2. Where Tibet is located? 3. Where the Dalai Lama lives? 4. If China can really be considered "communist"? I realize this is more appropriate for the PPP board, but I'm more interested in a casual reader's perspective before it gets moved.
  15. I'm pretty sure on the show she admitted to be a recovering addict and implied that she was once a crack whore. Still want her?
  16. I'll be there for two weeks. It's a paleontology conference. We are going to be studying wooley mammoth skeletons.
  17. Congrats dude. Now you can get on with your life.
  18. Ok, here is a true story about Saskatoon: Back in 1999 or 2000, a kid I knew from my home town met a girl from Saskatoon on the internet. At the time he was only 16 and she was 15. A few months of internet love transpired, and the kid I knew decided that he was in love. On the last day of school he told his parents he was going to sleep over at a friend's house. With $200 in cash and his parents car, he drove from Moutain Top, PA to Saskatoon. The border patrol let him in to Canada without a hitch. He meets up with his Saskatoonian girl and bones her a few times. Then he tries to drive her back to Mountain Top. When he gets to the border he is detained (the mother called and said her daughter was kidnapped). They threaten him with kidnapping charges but in the end just tell him to drive back home because he is a minor. Upon returning he has one doozy of a story to tell all his friends, not to mention the major fallout and punishment from his parents. Flash forward a few months later: He convinces his parents and her parents that it's a good idea for this girl to fly to visit him for Christmas. This is the moment we've all been waiting for, we get to meet the girl that was worth a drive to Saskatoon. As it turns out this girl was not very attractive to say the least. On top of that she had a terrible personality. Not worth a 10 mile drive, and this poor kid wasted a 2000 mile drive on her. I'm pretty sure these days this kid is a high school teacher.
  19. I'm heading to Saskatoon for a conference and I'm wondering where I should eat.
  20. The general public are to believe that Kate is Aaron's mother. How do they explain that one? Kate gets on the plane completely unpregnant and then a month later she has a kid???? Then she is rescued with this newborn and nobody is asking how she only had a two month gestation period?
  21. Count them for me, because I am only counting five: 1. Jack 2. Kate 3. Sayid 4. Hurley 5. Sun 6. ?????? Unless you're counting Aaron as the sixth.
  22. Yes, how much does a professional message boarder get paid?
