I hope he figures it out. He played significantly better in the playoffs than he did in the regular season. Unlike Gunner I do believe the Bills would have preferred McDuffie. The look on their faces when KC moved up to get him told a story. And the Bills said Elam was their last 1st round grade. So either you believe the Bills had McDuffie as a 2nd round grade (which makes no sense), or the Bills had McDuffie higher than Elam. But it doesn’t matter now.

Bills promote Eric Washington to assistant head coach

Exactly. So only a win or two more than when Rex was coach. -
Conclusion: Even the best defenses go bye-bye in the playoffs. Offense wins championships.

Bills promote Eric Washington to assistant head coach

It was a tip of the hat. My response was essentially echoing a post I had received from Augie about an hour earlier. He admonished me with phrases such as "you do you" and "don't embarrass yourself". Consequently, my remark, "then good for you" and "don't expect us all to be as gullible", was a gentler restatement of his words. It's important to track the flow of discussions to fully comprehend the dynamics of the exchanges happening here. Unfortunately, my posts often go over peoples heads. Thank you. I often enjoy the posts of people whom I disagree with as well. Variety is a spice and I don't prefer bland food, conversations, or anything else for that matter. . -
Those 7-10 Jets beat us.

The reverse power rankings WGR does is very informal. Just a few guys arguing over positions. Its even worse that they have Baltimore so high.

You make a good point. But it does substantially dwindle the talent pool when you primarily hire those you’ve already worked with. -
To all the Fire McDermott Posters, a follow up question..

No, they are demonstrably correct. In your opinion, they are not irrefutably correct. By no definition are they are in conflict. I am not just *now* saying that. I have been saying that for months. The AFFCG is the bare minimum this year. The baseline. I would have fired him already. He has been in the last 2 AFFCG and a Super Bowl. His leash is much longer. He won a SB a few years ago. His leash is much longer. I would have fired him already. He has won 2 of the last 4 SB’s. -

If you buy the excuse the Bills gave (Frazier desiring to take a year off) then good for you, but don’t expect us all to be as gullible. -

Perhaps if I speak frat-bro you’ll better understand. Let’s say you and your buddy are trying to get laid at a party. That’s the goal. He gets to 3rd base and you barely get a kiss. Neither of you reached your goal but your buddy was far more successful than you. McDermott got the kiss. Reid got to 3rd base (pre-Mahomes). Yes. Three Championship games, and a Super Bowl appearance, if I remember correctly. -

There is no contradiction. The only goal is to win a Super Bowl. That does not mean that only the Super Bowl winner has a good coach. I don’t know how you came to the conclusion that I was making that argument. You mentioned that Reid is analogous to Dungy pre-franchise QB. And I pointed out that Reid, even before Mahomes, was far more successful than Dungy was prior to Manning. So the comparison was invalid. And Philly was right to fire Reid. -

Funny. They fired the defensive coordinator responsible for that unit. -

This depends on your definition of good results. The only goal of an NFL season is to win the Super Bowl. Not to win regular season games, not to lose in the divisional round, not to build a culture. Winning a Super Bowl... or bust. That's it. Not the same. Reid was a good coach pre-Mahomes. He had been to NUMEROUS championship games, and a Super Bowl. And with a worse QB than Allen. Dungy, like McDermott, was the king of divisional round or worse. The fact that he only got to 1 Super Bowl with Peyton freaking Manning is one of the most damning aspects of Dungy's career. And the fact that Gruden won Dungy's team a Super Bowl the year after Dungy was fired, puts the nail in Dungy's coaching coffin. -

I don't really care, since it's just a title. However, I do find it odd that they would promote someone, even ceremoniously, while his unit underperforms yearly. -

Yes Peyton Manning dragged him to a ring. -

John Fox is a great example but hardly the only example. There is also Tony Dungy, who coached the Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001 and led them to the playoffs in four of his six seasons, but was unable to guide them to the Super Bowl and was fired. Jon Gruden took over the team and won a Super Bowl. -

Bengals have Lou Anarumo. His in-game defensive adjustments are the stuff of legends. -

Fantastic example. John Fox is a nearly perfect comparison. -
DVOA has Bills the #1 projected team

Homer Excuses Book Volume IV Pg. 208 "If the subject of the Bengals' patchwork offensive line in their demolition of the Bills during the 2023 playoffs arises, tactfully segue to the hardship defense. Remind them of Kim's medical crisis from 8 months prior, the sorrowful Hamlin event 3 weeks before, and as a last resort, sheepishly mention the Tops tragedy. So on and so forth.”
