Are we more deserving of the SB hype this year than last?

My opinion is this anytime any media brings up any hype on being SB contenders in the offseason, any player should respond that there are 32 teams with the same goal. -

And I believe it ultimately is up to the players moreso than on the coaches. Josh has alot of say in what plays are put into a gameplan, I've heard it countless of times where he endorses Dorsey and it is apparent that if he doesn't like a certain type of play it's not likely in the gameplan. I have no problem if they give Joshthat much input in what plays they run. You do want your QB to be the on field general. However that gives Josh a higher degree of accountability when a play doesn't work. He gets to see at the line of scrimmage and after the snap what is developing in front of him and he needs to be able to process th a t real time data to find the best place to go with the football. Dorsey or any coach needs his players to understand what they are doing and why it will work against certain defenses. Oc calling plays isn't like on a video game where everything pretty much goes as programmed by the code and doesn't deviate. In real time a stumble by a defender could mean an otherwise perfectly called screen now becomes s blown up play because the defender wasn't drawn away from the target and instead is now is prime position to negate the play that otherwise would have broke a long gain. The result has you blaming the call whereas the execution was at fault, where an alert qb would be able to shift the target away from the defender who lucked into being where he wasn't expected to be. Josh worked on his mechanics to get his accuracy improved. I'm hoping he's worked on his mental game this offseason. If his statement on getting older and beinga Qb first, football player second is sincere and not just a soundbite to deflect media, then it's up to him to up his game as far as ho w he chooses when and what to audible too. And then it also requires the other players to be focused and aware of the flow of the playcalls. -
If he shows improvement with the mental game, meaning he can correctly choose the best play for whatever the defense does after the snap then it will more than makeup for a slightly weaker defense if that happens. I think the defense will be well rested in games Josh controls the drives to be long time consuming ones that will put pressure on the opposing qb. So Josh can still play 'hero' ball just let him do it with his decisions not his running.
-
Because as Josh said in that one interview he is getting older and he's gonna be a qb first football player second. I take this to mean he is gonna look to take the best plays based on what's happening in any given game. Think he knows he has to choose his moments rather than always trying to gain extra yards when they aren't needed. Playing smarter to lessen the risks. It also makes his play style less predictable. Lull the opponent into having to defend against all his weapons that no one is left to spy Allen that's when he'll get his easy yards with less risk.

Talking about Jason Peters here correct?

Heck I'd be fine with getting that penalty on an olineman, much better than some false starts or holding that nullifies a big gain.

Are we more deserving of the SB hype this year than last?

I don't think there's anyway to say yes or no till we see the final team and how well they play complementary football. If our offense stays the same but the defense can cause opponents into mistakes and they create to's and perhaps a higher bit of scoring off some of those we may find that the talent upgrades of the other teams still leave them in the dust when compared to Josh really start to master his craft. -
Well with Josh stating he can't be taking the constant hits etc I think we will see him use his new slot options and I could see Kincaid be a leading candidate for ORoY if he receiving prowess translates well to the pro game and chemistry with Allen. Being Kincaid is relatively newer to the game than most top draft picks we can't be sure he even reached his ceiling yet. I'd venture he still has room to learn more and I expect Knox will have him join te university to start adding to his game.
-
Let's say he does look like he can be developed to a starting level. If they have excess guards they can trade some for draft capital at end of preseason. OL talent is in big demand and supply is really limited so never hurts to have too many.

Bills sign Latavius Murray to a one-year deal
AuntieEm replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
I also love to see there is good communication between Beane and some agents so this type of conversation can take place. After seeing that fiasco last year with that rb from Washington and being used as leverage just to have him sign back with WFT. Also helps that Buffalo does have a good reputation with the entire organization being well run and when anything Bills related goes viral its generally something very positive. Often overlooked is that the Bills have a top notch PR team. While other teams may promote their top stars the Bills seem to help promote all of their players. Other teams PR hoping they don't have to clean up any media mess from a players actions, Bills PR works with various players to let them showcase their personalities. Those Keenum undercover videos were great and I wish him well with his new team unless it's vs us. Not a bad thing to have a team with good PR help you when you will be likely retiring soon and transitioning to another career. Of course in the case I imagine that being so close to his hometown is a big factor. I mean he could have his closest family popping in to visit on a regular basis being a reasonably short road trip from the Syracuse area. -
Well I guess I assumed the pay would be not his starter pay but a reworked deal that would be around vet minimum. It really is hard to know what each players priorities are. Andrew Luck shocked alot of fans sacking away from the game after the endless injuries and rehab cycle got to be too much. Also alot of the choices the players have depend upon if they actually have a any plans for after playing careers. Easier to hang up the cleats if you know what you want to do after.

Some insight on Bills first round and how it went down
AuntieEm replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
I bet you thought McDermott was tanking his first year when he traded some of our talent and cut players that didn't fit the process. I don't know what the defense will look like with the new players but I have faith in McD being able to mold his defense into a suitable pairing with our explosive offense. Not common to have 2 dominant squads on either side of the ball. Better to sharpen the better of the 2 and then tinker with the lesser. Bills best player is offense Josh Allen. You solidify his protection he can elevate any talented players. Defense can be tinkered to be an opportunistic group that only needs to slow down the opponent. I want a defense that wants to get back to their front row seats watching an offense that is unstoppable. -
Definitely. It is still a passing league and very unlikely to ever return to the smashmouth days. The game is too violent for that with enough serious injuries. Even with modern medicine advances that allow many to return from acts, mcls, etc. Players are people after all and shouldn't be expected to suffer lifetime disabilities. Why I hope we maybe see morse as maybe the backup center. I would love to see him make the team to guarantee his contract, then waived to sit on PS in case he's needed due to injury of active players. He can limit the risk of more concussions, but it still allows him to be part of the team with high playoff expectations. Part of being a hunted team, sometimes all it takes is a key player getting injured. PS would keep him in game ready shape should he be needed for a game or 2. Not tossing him aside like used broken furniture, but still limiting his risk of added concussions and also contributing in developing the younger talent. Think it also is a good look for future FA vets signing when we offer them chancecat a SB ring.
-
If he breaks those passing records because he's doing too much then I'll start to question if we need to start looking for a new franchisè qb. I want the Bills as a team to succeed. Yes that will need players to be stars and QBs are top dogs in the top teams. But it still is a team game and no one player can do it alone. Even Brady didn't get it done a couple of times. However, if he embraces the balanced attack his teammates can inflate his passing yards because of their Rac. So while I am fine with him being way down in passing and tds, I don't know that we do see a slide. I think we just see them created with total offense not the Josh Allen Show. An added benefit is you get a balanced attack the different units might not break down as easily via injuries as they can vary the exposure for bruised players that can use extra time to heal. Perfect way to ease in younger players without needing them to be day one starters. And best FA vets will be happy to sign short term deals that gives Beane more flexibility in drafting talent as well as some cap management I'm thinking. Keep reinforcing the trenches and we can really see a dominant record breaking JA17 in future years.
-
Yes, he may no longer rack up yards via in air distances but he will offset that easily with his checkdowns to 'Swole' Beasley and any rbs that are active any given game. I think that one record he could break, qbs yac totals of his receivers. I don't even know if they keep track of this as Yac is a receiver record. Once the opponents try to shut down his short game that will open up all the longer throws that Josh can see when a defender is beaten for those easy yards as well. The perfect game vs Patriots is an example of what's possible with a balanced Josh while still having his gunslinger elements the teams have to respect. In turn the added benefit of his perfecting the short game is that the oline improvements will be amplified as Josh still is one of the better qbs under pressure. So his oline being upgraded and having bigger stronger elements. 'Cyborg' is gonna be a big upgrade and what I liked best reading some reports on him was that he studies film to understand the way players play against him. I think the pro game is gonna be an easy transition for him as a result and that will be a big reason opponents will find it hard to get Josh and the boys off the field. Guess another record I expect Josh to break then is and it will be the NFL record for avg TOP per game by QB. I wouldn't mind them pulling Josh from some games when he does have a turnover but in 4Q the team has a comfortable margin of points that it is unlikely the opponent will mount a comeback. If the offense has not been stopped you leave Josh in for the records he is capable of. I could think of many possibilities because Josh has so many strengths and if he learns to channel his chaotic play to a icy calculating attack then no one stopping the guys from the frozen tundra of western NY.

That's fine by me. If the other rbs are getting the job done and Murray only contribution is in practice settings .while the others get the job done behind a oline that can open up running lanes for them he gets to collect his vet minimum pay while being inactive each week I hope he ends up with a SB ring. -
Josh will be throwing to all his weapons. Even Murray is pretty good as a pass catching rb and he's a big target.
-
What are the rules of how much a player can have contact with coaches in off season? I mean could the defensive coaches work with Spector in film room where they can get him better at maybe handling the play calls for a mlb in our system? Maybe he needs more work in that aspect and not sure how much work of that type is allowed ny league.
-
I actually think we are gonna see all his receiving players get a balanced target numbers. Best way to keep opponents off- balance is by being as balanced as you can be. So I expect Josh will use the extra time he'll have to find the best player if they need to burn clock we will see more runs or even screens to Murray. Being 6'3" he can out jump most defenders. And we need the short yardage well Murray can pound out those yards when needed so Josh won't need to.
-
Yea I won't worry bout the defense, I really think that McD will tweak it as needed in any given game. And a big part of the defense will be Josh Allen being protected and having the time to see which of his weapons is the best play, don't need the big plays if your ahead and want to burn time to give your defense the freedom to gamble when needed. I think Josh's injury was indeed a big reason last year ended with such a flat game. The league also has a big interest in keeping top talent like Josh healthy. As they do with Mahomes, Burrow, Tua, Hurts etc. I'll take Josh Allen in a shootout against any teams especially if he can do the damage with his passing and let his new TE Kincaid take over the hurdling duties for the Bills. And with the holes I expect from Cybo when we are looking to eat up clock, well think we will see other teams pressing all season long as they won't have answers for a balanced Allen attack. I
-
Yep and run up the score so at end of games we can even spot the opponents 13 minutes instead of 13 seconds and they still won't stand a chance to rally to a win.
-
I also liked Fitzpatrick, can't question his effort even if he fell short at times at least he kept trying.
-
Anyone familiar with dorseys college career did he use his tes alot?

Yea I actually fell asleep listening to the Houston Greatest comeback game back in the glory days. I don't even recall what play I last heard before nodding off. It turned out fine in any event because that morning just before game start I realized I could get my cousin in Mď to tape the game for me and he'd mail it out the following day. So I got to see the comeback game the Wednesday following that game. I remember I made several copies for friends and family.

I'm not gonna be scared of any teams in our division. I'm glad the Jets will be contenders as I believe more in a team that has to earn their title rather than have a cupcake schedule within the division. If the team prevails then I like their playoff chances better than if the division was no competition and then they get spanked in game against a team that clawed its way to their playoff berth.
