Nasty little piece of Malware for Mac users
stevestojan replied to /dev/null's topic in Off the Wall Archives
We've lost one of our talking points? Really? I've had this macbook that I'm typing this on for 4.5 years without an ounce of anti-anything on it. I love PCs - couldn't imagine using my MacBook for real work, but it is my only home computer and to say that because of this article it's lost the edge on PCs for being vulnerable is a bit out there. Now, I know it is stupid for me not to have some anti-virii, etc, but I honestly don't keep anything important on this computer, plus it's 4/5 years old, so if it got "sick" it wouldn't break my heart to have to get a new MB Pro But if I bought a PC and used it on the interwebs for an HOUR with no anti-virus, I'd be seeing blue screen of death (or my friends would all be getting spam from me). -

I haven't been around as much lately, but I had to log in to comment on this post. Funniest thing I've read on this site. Ever. Bravo. -
OK, here ya go My VPN for work limits my internet connection (of course) once connected. In other words, once I log into my VPN from home, I can't get to facebook, or any other site I couldn't get to at work. So, if I connect through VPN, I can no longer use TeamViewer (or any other remote connection software such as LoginIgnition, GotoMyPC, etc) to connect my iPad to my Macbook. So, here's the solution I've used. I own a macbook and use Parallels desktop, which fully boots a background Windows XP (if you've never tried Parallels, its truly awesome. Windows programs work WITHIN OSX, not in some special window). Anyway, my VPN is set up through the Windows "side" of things. For some reason, this allows me to use TeamViewer to connect my iPad to my Macbook. Once I'm "in" my Macbook on the iPad, I can then go into windows and connect just fine to my VPN. Not sure how or why that works (its almost like Parallels gives me two seperate ip addresses?) but it does. So, I'm on the road, I use the TeamViewer app to connect my Ipad2 to Macbook. Once connected, I open my VPN software, but through windows (it won't if used on the same "machine" Teamviewer is on), and the connect to my office PC. Full access to work via the ipad.

You guys are right. Having a removable battery is VERY important, especially when: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/03/18/htc-thunderbolt-battery-life/ Touché. I am what I am.

I assume this is referring to CNETs absolutely infatuation with everything Apple. I used to use CNET for all my tech reviews, but they have become so biased towards apple it's nearly unreadable. I like engadget, Techcrunch, and Gizmodo much better.

Serious question: What can your phone do that my iPhone4 cant? I use my for both work and personal use, so since I've had other "TRUE" smartphones, I'm interested what I'm missing out on. And where were these "TRUE" smartphones, like the Thunderbolt, before the iPhone? I guess HTC was just waiting to surprise us all.

If a 42 year old wanted to meet the Barefoot Contessa as their wish, I would think she was even MORE heartless since it's clear that guy would have cancer of both eyes.

I love how loving the best makes you a fanboy. Apple is the first major player (note I didn't say first company altogether) to make a full touchscreen phone for the mainstream. EVERY phone after that has been playing catch up (see: copying Apple). Apple comes out with the first mainstream tablet computer, and once again, followers trying to catch up. I love how people say the Xoom is better.... yeah, have fun with your 20 apps. Apple simply does it better. It's not being a fanboy to praise what is great. I've posted this before but I have had well over 30 cellp hones. The iPhone is THE BEST. I've had the Droid X, The droid Incredible, the first Droid, I've had blackberrys, including the AWFUL blackberry strom (whoa, it clicks) and I actually owned the palm pre (that lasted 4 days). The fact is it comes down to Apps. And I LOVE that apple must approve all apps. One of the biggest arguments FOR having a droid is the "open market". Exactly how many fart apps do you need? There's a reason every company you see advertising an app has it on the Apple App Store. The fact that I have the iPhone on Verizon makes it just so much better. But keep on hating.

Fact is, if she had a penis we wouldn't be talking about the fact that her dozens of punches were "mainly harmless". You're kidding yourself if you say this isn't about gender. If some 5'5 150 pound guy was doing what she was and sone 6'6 250lb guy ended his idiocy with one punch we'd either be giving the big guy kudos or more likely not talking about this at all.

This is my first post on the iPad 2. Anyone else get one? My review: if you have the original iPad, hold out for the iPad 3. Not enough changed to make it worth getting this one. If you don't have an iPad and you've been considering a "tablet type computer" jump on this. If you're Chef Jim or DC Tom and you just opened this post to ask "What's an iPad" or some other snarky remark, well, hello I love the device for one reason.. I have VPN setup at home for my work PC. I have my Verizon iPhone 4 with hotspot capability which I always have with me. So, i have the wifi iPad 2 which connects to my home laptop which is always connected to work, and use an app called iTeleport to connect to said laptop which gives me constant iPad access to work. (you might ask why not just teleport directly into my work PC, well, I work for a company who allows no such thing. Anyway, once again apple made something that "just works". I'm stunned that motorola priced the xoom at $800. Way to price yourself out of contention. The girlfriend and I watched Jobs' keynote about the iPad 2 on the iPad 2 where he claims a revolutionary redesign; and in her words "it's just a little thinner and a different color". In other words, like I said before if you have the iPad 1 hold off, but otherwise, if you have a bit of disposable income, this thing is plenty cool... Regardless if you can use it for work.

Need help with my cell phone
stevestojan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I have 400 monthly minutes. I use 100 at most. I talk to people ALL day at work. First, I don't have time to make a bunch of personal calls and second, when I'm done with work, I just don't want to talk on the phone. I use hundreds of text messages. They are to the point, cut out all the bulls#it of a normal conversation, and you don't have to reply til you want to. That probably makes me sound like an ass, but I've never argued that point. -

I'm a gadget nerd. Have been through 30+ phones, literally. Have had 3 android phones. NONE compare to the iPhone. I know there are those that will hate anything apple, but theres a reason EVERY new phone is compared to the iPhone. -

I thought someone with your incredible brain power would have picked up the sarcasm in my initial statement. But alas, you were likely too busy swimming in your cash to pick up that detail. -
