My “luxury” piece is probably the most recognized watch in the world. I have a SubC date. I do love it. But I also know that it’s out of reach for most; “that’s crazy that you spent THAT MUCH on a watch.”
But it all comes down to perspective. I’d love to have an AP Royal Oak. But that’s “crazy” to me. And then there are pieces like a Jacob and Co. that are anywhere from $600k - $2.5MM. I like those because it’s fun to know those even exist and someone, somewhere, has enough cash to wear a small country’s GDP on their wrist.
Again, my best piece is 8.5k. And I love it. But I love the books about it, the community, etc. and what’s the best about my Sub is that when I’m at a bar, another watch guy will start shooting the **** with me.
What i hate is that I’ve become a “snob.” And not it the way of “I’m wearing a Rolex, you suck.” But in the “STOP BUYING **** PIECES LIKE MVMT” because if you have $100, $500, $5000, or $10,000 I can point you in the right direction. After 10k, that’s “crazy!”
