  1. An all-female band with a very strong rhythm section is not easy to find...
  2. The same for me. During the Sunday afternoon time slots when the Bills are not playing, I usually watch our main competition (whichever team this is at that point of time). I should add that there is a difference between watching the Bills and other teams. When the Bills are playing, this is my only focus. When watching non-Bills games, I might multi-task and work on something else concurrently. E.g., from our kitchen I have a good view of the living-room TV. I can do simple chores while still watching TV.
  3. Called today because of issues not related to the Sunday ticket. When they replaced my old HR20 receiver with a mini Genie last week, they also enrolled me in a protection plan, which I cancelled. Due to some screw-up on DirecTV's side, during the replacement I was for a week without DirecTV; they credited me $44 for this loss of service. Then I asked about the Sunday ticket for loyal customers (I have been with them since 2003). I got $16.50 off per month of the Sunday ticket (for 6 months) plus $45 off per month of the total bill for a year. Total savings: ~$640 (without the reimbursement for the week without TV).
  4. Excellent write-up, as always. Just a comment regarding the Bears' commentators. After listening to a number of other broadcasts with home team commentators, I enjoyed listening to the Bears' team. They were pretty balanced, and well-informed and very complimentary about the Bills.
  5. Inspired by this video, I bought one of their CDs, "Coral Fang". Although in general I prefer live recordings, it is still an intriguing piece of work. Thanks!
  6. From Dublin, with several connections to U2 (but, IMHO, much more interesting than U2) ... The Virgin Prunes
  7. I know, all these big cats can be confusing, but a Jaguar is not the same as a Panther.
  8. The Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup" has many aspects that are still (or again) relevant today.
  9. As you indicated, it is outdated. San Marino now has two medals, increasing their lead. I don't think anybody will catch them. And they sent a total of only 5 athletes to Japan.
  10. If you want a serious response, it is a Baltimore oriole. Most orioles they have stunning orange/black or yellow/black plumage.
  11. When I got seriously into listening to music in the mid-70s, I began to worry how far my favorite LPs would last; frequent playing tended to increase background noises. Thus, I got an AKAI reel-to-reel recorder and taped my LP collection. Using the tapes to listen to the music worked well for a while, but after several years I had to realize that that the sound quality of the tapes had deteriorated faster than that of the (now rarely used) LPs.
  12. Joni Mitchell live 1968 in Ottawa ... recorded by Jimi Hendrix
  13. I can understand Osaka's case. However, Biles is different. According to NBC Sports, https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/tokyo-olympics/all-about-simone-biles-olympic-gymnastics-goat Biles had a goat (as symbol of GOAT) embroidered on her leotard. If this is true, this is hubris taken to the extreme, and all the pressure of which she claims to be the victim is self-inflicted.
  14. I would also go with The Wonder Years, but with a focus on the sister
  15. One advantage of living in a college town is that they often have student-run radio stations where you can hear music not normally played on commercial radio. When I was in Rochester, both UR and RIT had their station (do they still exist?). Here in Lubbock, TTU runs two stations, one is the local NPR affiliate with lots of classical music, the other is student-run. The latter, 88.1 FM "The Raider", introduced me to many alt/indie acts I would never heard of otherwise. One example: Dr. Dog. My favorite, "The Beach", starts at 30:00.

    Name This Person

With singer, do you mean front man of a band or solo?
  17. IMHO, JA's Volunteers is underrated. My personal favorite... The song was not very typical for the Stones, but I liked it despite the pretty inane lyrics. What do these two songs have in common? Of course, it is Nicky Hopkins on piano. For an encore, here is the intro of Lennon's "Jealous Guy". Hopkins died much too early from Krohn's disease in 1994 at the age of 50.
  18. Dedicated to the people in the NW USA
  19. This is a different woodpecker than you had in the previous pic. You can see that this one has no black face stripes, has more white dots on the shoulders, and is larger. It is a red-bellied woodpecker (I know, some of these names do not make sense; red-bellied woodpeckers only very rarely show orange or red belly feathers, and if they do, it is very low on the belly (which is hidden here by the wood board).
