Cool. None of them are Tyreek Hill. He is a generational talent that completely chanted the way defenses were able to play them. Mahomes isn't going to turn into a pumpkin but Hill was a core part of their identity.

They still have Mahones.   Like Brady in NE, that can make adequate / good WRs perform well above the norm.

With lots of cap room and draft capital, KC will still be good.   How good in the new AFC West, well, we'll just have to see.    But I have no doubt they'll be better than the Fins with Tua at QB.

    Good.

While the knee jerk reaction to the Hill trade and our CB depth is to take a Cornerback at 25, I think all this WR movement tells us that the pick needs to be a Wide Receiver.

Taking McDuffie, Booth etc at 25 isn’t stopping Tyreek Hill.   We can’t even single cover him with a healthy Tre White.  He’s just not that type of WR… you have to bracket.

25-30M going rate for elite WR’s now… Draft one and hope Diggs loves Buffalo enough to take a “discount” when the time comes.

I don't think it's a knee jerk reaction (and I'm sure McBeane doesn't as well).    Teams have to be build for the long haul, not just this season.   The glaring hole at CB is a big weakness, Tyreek Hill or no Tyreek Hill.     The draft is deep in WRs that can help beyond the first round (i.e., Gabe Davis in the 4th round).

The Bills averaged 36 ppg against the Fins over the past two years.    No way the Fins average 37+ against the Bills, even with Hill.

If you're a defensive coordinator, who would you be more concerned about, Tyreek Hill or Diggs?

If your're a defensive coordinator, who would you be more concerned about, Josh or Tua?    It starts and largely ends there.

I don't care if the Fins have Jerry Rice and Randy Moss in their primes--they still got Tua.

Tua is also good at extending plays. Unfortunately for him last year, he'd make 1 or 2 pass rushers miss when 2 or 3 of them were coming so Miami eventually realized their only chance of success was to get the ball out so quickly that their OLine didn't have a chance to ruin him. Their tackles allowed more pressures than anyone in the league last year despite Tua getting the ball out quicker than almost anyone.

I guess I watched another QB than you did.

Tua's a game manager, who's just adequate enough to keep you from tossing in the towel and looking for an upgrade.    Giving him weapons is nice, but won't be a difference maker since he such a poor shot.

Hill's separation skills and the attention he pulls away from the middle of the field should make those passes easier for Tua.

NFL defenses can account for Hill if all he does is five yard crossing routes.   Tyreek's superpower in KC was making himself available to Mahones on off-script and  broken plays.

Tua has nowhere near the arm strength to throw off-platform, nor does he have the scrambling ability to extend plays.   He'll make his five-yard checkdowns to the same spots on the field, over and over.    And defenses will be able to contain that, unlike the Mahones/Hill combination, where coverage would breakdown because the play was being extended and it was sandlot football.

Look at it this way.  Mike McDaniel is from the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree and he now has a solid offensive line, Waddle, Hill, Cedric Wilson, Gesicki, Chase Edmunds, Mostert, etc.

There's a lot to work with here and Tua won't necessarily have to hit 50 yard dimes for their offense to work effectively.

Hill's value is separation and RAC.   Tua's value is five-yard checkdowns and the medical tent.   Not a good fit.

I would have been a lot more worried if the Fins had traded for Watson, who could activate their existing WR corps    Tua scares no one.

  7. Trent McDuffie would be the perfect "Bills process-character" CB and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his draft stock somehow slips from the 20th or so slot he's now pegged to go at.

He doesn't have the long arms the team covets at the position, but his smarts and intangibles are off the charts, IMO.   He's a Poyer/Hyde-type CB that would fit in tremendously in this defense.

  8. Regardless of whether he sees the field or not, he's going to be a great addition to the team:

    https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2022/03/browns-trade-case-keenum-to-the-bills-for-a-7th-round-pick.html

"Keenum was one of the most positive leaders on the team, and helped hold the players together through adversity. He was grateful to start the finale against the Bengals, even if it was a meaningless game.

“Like I said before, this is the National Football League,’’ Keenum said. “You have guys in this locker room, myself included and I can speak for myself, who we have been dreaming about playing in the NFL since we were kids, all of us. It is a dream come true to be able to go out there and represent not only the name on the back of our jerseys – our family’s – but the name on the front. There is a lot of pride. There is a lot of pride in Cleveland."
