Buddy Nix used to sleep through free agency and the draft

Just following Levy's direction:  "If you develop a reputation as an astute player personnel man, you can sleep through free agency and the draft."

At least, I think that's what Marv said.

There's absolutely zero shot that their draft decisions are well known in the building - at least where every player is aware. Especially pending free agents months in advance of the draft.

I'm sorry, but it doesn't work this way.

Wallace has been living on borrowed time for a while (i.e., the tallest midget in the circus).   I suspect it's highly likely the position groups pick up vibes and gosip inside the building more than we outsiders can know.     And has a feel for when the coaching staff would like better players at certain positions.

I also think he knew there was going to be competition at CB and he wasn’t guaranteed a starting job by resigning.

Yep.  Levi most likely suspected they were going CB2 with either pick #25 or #57.    That's probably been well known inside the building for a while.

Edgerrin James, LT, AP, Barry Sanders, and JT all had roughly the same metrics as Breece Hall.

So did Justin Fargas, Jackie Battle, James Stewart, Deuce McAllister, Ryan McCants and Jonathan Stewart.

Maybe.  But he must have been at the bottom of the list to keep if a gadget RB is who kept them from resigning Wallace.

IDK if they're related.   Wallace wasn't wearing red, white and blue underware when he decided to sign a contract.

Yeah. It’s tough for people to argue against it but they somehow do. All because theyve been indoctrinated into thinking the RB position is useless. Yet every single year in fantasy leagues they are like the top 3-5 players taken. I guess those fantasy points don’t actually mean anything on the field during games.

Personally, I'm more into reality points.  Like wins and losses.   0:)

Plausible, though unless there are additional medicals on Booth, I think he is the more likely pick if both he and Elam are available.

I think the medicals on Booth may be a problem.  I'd be fine with him, if he's the pick.   They brought him to town and I'm sure the medical staff checked him out.   But it seems like an issue that might cause the Bills to look at a cleaner prospect like Elam.

Perhaps. Your "once and for all" implicitly recognizes that McD so far has not invested a high pick on cb2.

That  may just be a function of how their draft boards fell, knowing that Beane always remains disciplined in sticking to value over need.   This year, with such a limited number of true round one grade, I can see a CB like Elam being both value and need at #25.

You need to go visit the KC Chefs board for perspective.

All MBs have their fanatic tendancies.   I just know how TSW has historically rolled.

Maybe some of those flamethrowing posters of old have aged out or moved on, but I suspect enough will show up tonight and tomorrow to let everyone know what a bad pick the Bills made.

I think Beane may trade up for Stingley or Jameson Williams if he can pull it off (the latter is my preference.) CB @ 25 makes a lot of sense, though. I've been rather hoping for Booth if that's the case. Obviously, I'll root for whoever is the pick. I'm guessing you are Florida fan, so I'll take your word for it.

My guess on Elam comes mostly from a feeling that (a) McD wants to fix that CB2 roster hole, once and for all, (b) Elam has been the least talked about corner linked to the Bills, which is how Beane operates, and (2) The Bills love their first round picks to be as young as possible (in the 20-21 year old range).

Not a Florida fan, just reading tea leaves.

For all its faults, TSW is actually a pretty rational, thoughtful place…relatively speaking. There are a hell of a lot of smart, sophisticated fans here…

Man, I want some of what you're smoking!   The pool of sophisticated posters is smaller than the Madden 2022 crowd, in my experience.    Do you have a lot of posters on ignore?

Not sure there is one I would be adamant about. Not in round 1 anyway. There are years I would but this year is a let the draft come to you year. There was a report I read yesterday claiming one team only has 13 true 1st round grades. It isn't a great class at the top but it does have decent depth rounds 2-5.

There are only two guys I'd consider trading up for.   Jameson Williams and Kyle Hamilton, if either guy drops into the teens.

Nobody else seems that 'special' to me in this draft.   Which probably makes it harder to trade up, since there seem to be fewer round 1 grades in this draft than in recent years.

I guess my point is it could be argued that it's a risky proposition for beanes reputation

This just in:  now that expectations have been raised, there's a VERY high likelihood (certainty) that a sizeable segment of TSW posters will question any move Beane makes that doesn't deliver a Lombardi in the next 2-3 years.

Draft choices, free agent signings and exits, contract structures, etc.    He's on the clock, no matter what he does.

This isn’t a big deal to me. I think the Bills would be just fine to use him up for 4 years on a rookie deal and let him walk for a big payday.

I can live with that as well.    If he walks for a big free agent deal in his second contract, it'll mean the Bills have had a lot of success in 2023, 2024 and 2025 that he played a major part in.

Here they are.    Agreed.  He's really developed his upper body over the past year.

Yep. We've all heard the Cam comparisons for years. Cam was so good he earned the nickname: Superman

Then injuries caught up to him.

I think what happened to Cam should serve as a warning to us. Doesnt matter how super your QB is, u need to protect your franchise qb period.

Either with improving the guys around him or by making sure Allen protects himself out there.

I think we've definitely seen attention paid to both of those

I think McD's comment about presenting "the threat to run" will come more into play with Josh, now that he's established how much of a threat he can be with his legs.   As Marv used to say, "get a reputation as an early riser and you can sleep in until noon."
