Kelce’s plea for Chris Jones to end his holdout
FilthyBeast replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Speaking of Kelce, looking at some of these recent TE deals (i.e. TJ Hockenson) I'd be thinking of holding out myself for a new deal but goes to show how important building a dynasty is for certain players vs others. -
Seems like a good dude but obviously not a good NFL QB and crazy to think a lot of so called experts had him pegged as a top 10 draft pick at one point before he decided to stay at USC another year.

Leslie Frazier picks the Bills to win the Superbowl
FilthyBeast replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hilarious and somewhat true. -
This is what I've felt for years now ever since they've been exposed so to speak. Beane got stupid lucky with JA17 and rarely do these 'boom/bust' guys pan out, luckily for Bills nation it did and more importantly current regime. And I've seen a lot of posters say this is true for most HC/GM in the league whose success is tied to their starting QB, but remember a couple of former Bills head coaches had just the same, if not more success with marginal starting QB's (i.e. Marrone in Jax with Blake Bortles = 1 AFFCG that they were leading until Brady magic struck in 4th quarter, similar deal with Rex Ryan who took the Jets to back to back AFCCG with Mark Sanchez). Beane and McD still have a chance to defy years of historical data but odds are against them and clock is ticking...

Basing this solely on Beane's track record even though it's somewhat ridiculous to guess on these things so early: 1) Kincaid - Will be a solid player, likely a few probowls but comparing him to what might be the best TE in the history of the NFL is silly and even Kelce didn't become the force he is until 4 or 5 years into this league and playing with Mahomes. 2) Torrence - I really like what I see from him but Beane has never hit on a 2nd round pick period. With that said I could see a similar trajectory as Kincaid but the 'Beane 2nd round' curse possibly striking in terms of injuries so something that derails a promising career. 3) Williams - I'll say bust because if anything I don't think he fits in here long term once we presumably have a new HC and defensive scheme in next few years and legit NFL DC and HC aren't interested in midget tweaner players. 4) Shorter - Looked good in preseason but similar to 2nd round picks, this team has a history of drafting a bunch of WR in mid to late rounds and not playing them, using them right, etc so probably just an average player that bounces around for a few years. 7) Broeker - Don't care not on team anymore 7) Austin - same as above

Meanwhile in Foxboro, "In the End There Can Be Only One"
FilthyBeast replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lot of reports out of Foxboro that Jones has looked pretty solid and similar to rookie campaign now that he has a legit NFL OC again. Still not sure Jones will ever be a star in this league but Patriots can still be a grimy team and rack up a lot of wins this year with average QB play. Defense should be among best Belichik's had even during Brady years. -
Interesting that he chose to leave KC practice squad for Buffalo. This tells me he must have been told he'll be elevated to the active roster here as JA17 backup once he gets up to speed.

I Am Not Optimistic Going Into This Season
FilthyBeast replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
My mindset this year is expecting the worse (i.e. 7-10 type season, no playoffs) but hoping for the best. But for this to happen I think JA17 would have to have a true career year/MVP season to overcome the horrendous coaching and defense that I think might be terrible. I also see this team losing to Jets and Dolphins early but they hopefully they can rack up a few wins and stay around .500 before the brutal 2nd half schedule where wins are likely going to be elusive. -
Agree 100% and at some point sooner than later years of horrendous drafting going to catch up with this team which is why myself and many other pundits expecting a big regression this year. Also no this isn't another username or burner account of mine.

This is a nice move all things considered and have not going to knock Beane for it but who knows what type of interest he was receiving on the open market. Doubt any other serious contenders were interested especially those with serious LB talent like Chiefs/Dolphins/Bengals/Eagles/49ers/etc.

Pretty sad this worthless bum couldn't even make the Colts roster. I'm sure some fans here still actually believe he's a legit NFL player.

Bills lose Anderson, Austin and Broeker to claims.
FilthyBeast replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
To be honest Scott, I really don't care about all this bottom of the roster musical chairs teams play. Most of these guys are never going to amount to anything in this league which is why they are cut/claimed/etc. But I see a lot of Bills podcasters and media figures chest thumping over the fact 4 guys were claimed by other teams as if it actually means something. But kudos to this organization for another hollow accomplishment I guess and I'm sure KC and other serious contenders could care less as well about how much of their scraps ended up elsewhere. -
I honestly don't know much about this guy but on surface seems like a typical bargain basement Beane type of move. PFF metrics definitely don't inspire confidence though...
-
Beane and 2nd round picks = not a good combination. Which is also why I'm still very apprehensive about Torrance despite looking like the real deal in preseason.
-
Really hope we look elsewhere for some talent to develop (i.e. one of better NFL rosters like MIA/SF/PHI, etc)

FilthyBeast replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Still a bit misleading because Texans are widely considered to be among the worst teams in the league again this year record wise and up there with Cardinals jockeying for #1 overall pick in next year draft. So taking a flying on 2 of our 7th round guys is great on the surface but doesn't mean we are best roster in NFL. -
All true because their GM is the best in the business (and maybe best GM in all pro sports right now). Definitely have a lot of young stars up and down the roster they will have to think about extending in coming years but you get the sense that Mahomes is going to keep restructuring to team friendly deals like Brady did all those years in NE to keep them in the championship mix and keep most core guys. Still think Chris Jones deal gets done at some point sooner than later too. Bottom line it's the Chiefs world in the NFL and we are all living in it which is why I maintain the Bills organization eventually has to know they aren't touching these guys with the current GM/HC when it matters most in the playoffs and must rethink their long term strategy there to win playoff games beyond divisional round.
-
This is truly scary considering they are coming off a SB win during a 'transition' year and also widely expected to get to/win another SB this year.
-
The issue still remains though that if you subtract JA17 from the equation, both Beane and McD are no different that every other failed GM/HC that's come through Buffalo since 2000 and that's what a lot of Bills mafia doesn't seem to understand or want to acknowledge.

Hoodie out here playing 4D chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers. -
I would look at the guys the Dolphins released instead....there's some serious talent they just put on the street in Malik Reed, Aubrey Miller and Cam Goode!!

Colts grant Jonathan Taylor’s request to seek trade
FilthyBeast replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rumors circulating online that Dolphins close to finalizing trade for Taylor. If that happens, not only are the prohibitive favorites to win the division, but will likely challenge for a 17-0 season along with the Chiefs.- 252 replies

Dolphins making some interesting moves, definitely gearing up for a Jonathan Taylor trade which is a scary thought adding a player like that to what is already a top 3 NFL roster, if not best overall. Also if I'm Beane I'd be taking a very hard look at some of the LB's they released as there is some serious talent there.
-
If he's healthy this is stupid move IMO, especially for a guy that in all likelihood is playing his last season in Buffalo. Only silver lining is 1st half schedule is easier (on paper) than the latter half.
-
Still think preseason is fairly meaningless in the grand scheme of things but I was pretty impressed watching the Jets the other day. Rogers definitely looked rejuvenated and that defense is going to be absurdly good to the point that I'm going to dread a turnover, sack, negative yardage play, serious injury on offense, etc every time we snap the ball against them.
