TNF: Panthers at Texans 8:20 NFLN
FilthyBeast replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't watch the whole game but it's amazing what a change of scenery can do. Darnold finally looking like a top 5 draft pick defying the odds in year number four similar to Allen last year. -
Get ready for Monday Night Football, playoff style

Well at least the Bills are guaranteed to not have the stupid 1PM saturday slot again this year! -
Beat place to watch Bills in Olean area
FilthyBeast replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't been to Olean area in years but Randy's up the River is a lo key great wing spot outside of the Buffalo area that's near the college there (St Bonas). I heard they opened a second location in the area somewhere but not sure it's the same name. -
Not really a surprise because at this point his only real option is signing as insurance on some teams practice squad. But at least he played in and won a couple SB's and he had some great years in Buffalo including being part of the drought breaking 2017 squad.

Predict the Score: WFT at the Bills
FilthyBeast replied to machine gun kelly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if Allen's struggles continue I can't see us dropping a 2nd consecutive home game to a lessor team given how strong this defense looks right now. Bills 31 WFT 16 -
Yes but as I mentioned in the unhilighted part 'assuming their early season sucess is sustainable. For all we know this Panther team could be a fraud but hard to ignore what their defense is doing and a revived Darnold finally playing with some real talent around him. Either way this is not the Chiefs, Bucs or Titans which I agree and still consider all three of those games much tougher on paper. Also still think we aren't sweeping the Pats even if Allen returns to form.

If you have the game recorded go back and watch around the late 3rd/ early 4th quarter, he didn't look right on the sidelines and appeared visibly frustrated with a deer in the headlights type of look which we saw a lot in 2018/2019. That was the only point of that statement and definitely not making it up. Obviously he still finished with 2 TD's and 'glimpes' of the 2020 version but you get the sense he knows himself his play is nowhere up to snuff which the early season numbers reflect. Again, 2 games don't make a season but the bigger concern is his performance going to back to the Baltimore playoff game and what some feel was a premature contract extension. Hopefully after a few more games we'll look back in hindsight as simply a 'slow start' but until then the anxiety and concern is justified.

Just to answer this question, the original post which somehow became it's own thread was certainly a bit harsh or overreaction. But I stand point the general point that if Allen has 3 straight bad games to start the season regardless of W/L no rational fan should be able to 'accept' this given his contract. You pay $250M for Mahomes/Brady like production right or wrong and it's not about personal like or dislike of Josh Allen as a human being, it's about exactly what he said post contract signing: "He was given this deal not for what he has done in the past but for what the organization believes he will do...i.e. win a championship" I believe in Allen but not sure what exactly is happening to him especially 'that look in his eye' during the Dolphins game where he clearly looked clueless as to what is going on. There is still time to rectify the situation but the sense of urgency and pressure is very real heading into face a WFT that has had extended time to prepare. In the end it would be so typical of this team to field a great defense again but have a major regression on the offensive side when nobody (even the harshest critics) felt that was possible. Is it too much to ask to finally have a team that is great in all areas instead of the complete opposite of what they were in the previous season?

Regarding Mahomes this is pretty much what the entire national media thinks...they've annointed him the GOAT already and assume he's going to easily surpass Brady and go to the SB every year even if they don't win like last season. I like Mahomes and have no argument against him being the best QB in the NFL right now but history has shown attrition happens and eventually he's not going to have Kelce, Cheetah, Andy Reid, etc around him and there will be down years/non playoffs season no matter what.
-
From the bigger picture perspective, Allen has not played well going back to the divisional game against the Ravens: 4 straight games: -QB rating under 86.1 -No more than 2 TD passes per game -No 300+ yard games - Under 6 YPA - 3 total turnovers - 8 total sacks These overall numbers are worse if you take out the two playoff games from last year. Allen should be under a lot of pressure this week against WFT to right the ship so to speak and should be able to do that since this is the weakest defense metric wise he's faced this season.
-
Mentioned this in another thread but this Carolina team is shaping up to be one of the toughest games left on the schedule assuming their early season success is sustainable. Matt Rhule has this squad playing great football and Darnold is finally looking like a top 5 draft pick and solid NFL starting QB away from Adam Gase simliar to Tannenhill in Ten after he left him in Miami.
-
Somewhat surprising he's been inactive since the Panthers traded for him but they have a top 5 defense right now and have the look of one of those teams that will be in the playoff mix this year if they can sustain their success going forward. Also one of those games on the schedule that will be much more difficult for the Bills than initially expected.
-
I don't understand how this thread was started because I don't even know how to start my own because I've tried before? But I just want to note that it doesn't mean the season is over after 3 games or Allen is completely trash, it's just hard to understand how a guy who had an MVP caliber season last year can be among the worst QB's in the league after 2 games in 2021. His YPA is even worse than his rookie season which is unfathomable.
-
My goal isn't to trash Allen, as of now I still believe in him and think that as a whole this entire offense just isn't right and off to a slow start. But the numbers don't lie and everything ultimately goes back to the QB so until I see it with my own eyes he's simply not up to the standard an alleged elite franchise QB needs. Regression is fine and was expected to a certain degree but not with completion percentage among other metrics being so dreadful.

What happens if Tua Doesn’t Get Hurt?
FilthyBeast replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we still win no matter what but think Tua is still better than Brissett so probably would have been able to at the very least get the garbage time scores that he couldn't against this defense. But at this point it's probably safe to say the Dolphins ceiling this year is similar to last year in terms of being a fringe wild card type of team unless they decide to meet the Texans ridiculous demands for Watson then that changes everything. -
Dolphins similar to early 2010 Bills?
FilthyBeast replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If anything yesterday proved why the Dolphins aren't crazy talking to the Texans about Watson (and why they now may be more motivated than ever to make that move to salvage the season). I still think they have a very good roster and will win somewhere around 10 games again with or without a QB change but the Bills are simply a bad matchup for them similar to the many years of our suffering at the hands of the Patriots when Brady was there. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
FilthyBeast replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Too early to say this, yes he hasn't stood out yet but pretty sure he didn't even play most the game yesterday because of the cramp issue. But I will agree with fans who say the age thing isn't an excuse anymore, this is year number four in the NFL and don't matter how young he still is. You either can play in this league or you can't and for fans that were around all the years Ruben Brown made probowls unfortunately Edmunds is that type of player right now...highly overrated and not nearly as good as that accolade suggests. -
Mahomes’ Brother Pours Water On Ravens Fans
FilthyBeast replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Mahomes but between his brother and wife talk about some real pieces of work in his inner circle so to speak. -
Tyrod Likely Out vs Bills Week 4
FilthyBeast replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel bad for this guy because this is 3 straight teams post Buffalo that's he's got hurt or benched just a few games into the season and he actually looked really in week one, albeit against the Jaguars who appear to be one of the worst teams in the league through two contests. -
It's really this simple, until Allen proves last year wasn't a fluke he's the same guy we saw in 2018/2019 right now....extremely erratic with a few glipses of greatness sprinkled in. You don't pay $250M for that, not even close and we have the right to demand better as fans since there were many of us that understood last year could have been an outlier and not really who Allen is. And you can't make the comparison to midseason last year since he came out guns blazing in the first four games. He's been terrible from the get go and now we also now Pittsburgh isn't nearly as good as we thought either given Carr's performance yesterday. Honestly Allen is lucky he didn't have 3 or 4 INT yesterday but obviously it's not under the microscope so to speak because our defense gave one of the best performances of the McD/Frazier era. Allen must get his head right quickly starting this week.

He's going to have to and it goes back to the championship game last year when he decided to kick field goals on fourth and goal situations instead of realizing they need to be aggressive to have a chance. As of right now though it looks the Chiefs defense is not very good but we thought that last year as well and they seemed to play their best game of the season against the Bills when it mattered.
-
Agree, if Allen plays like crap again this week there are no more excuses. It will be time to accept that he's simply not good and behind closed doors in Orchard Park there will be serious buyers remorse knowing that he had a fluke year during the weird fanless covid year. Washington has a good dline and but has struggled mightily overall and is lucky to be 1-1 right now. And even if they were a top defense Allen played extremely well against many top 10 defenses last year and has to show that again given his contract. Really hope he can turn it around and come out firing.
