Our long Cody Ford National Nightmare is over.
FilthyBeast replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately some guys don't have it or pan out in this league and this looks like one of the bigger misses by Beane especially since we traded up to take him high in the 2nd round. Best case scenario is trading in season to a desperate team and getting something like 5th or 6th round back in return, either way he won't be on this team next year. -
If we do beat the Chiefs I feel that Knox will be one of the big reasons why so hopefully his hot start carries over.

As good as this defense has been so far they obviously aren't facing a washed Big Ben or marginal backups/rookies this week. And I'm still mildly concerned about the pass rush because outside of the Dolphins game against maybe the worst oline in the league we still aren't finishing the job so to speak in terms of the sack counts. And for me this game is still going to come down to Allen proving he can make plays in key moments like Mahomes and also coaching in that McDermott has to have balls of steel and take big time chances to do what Staley and Harbaugh did in terms of ensuring that we don't give Mahomes a chance to win the game late if we have a lead and not settling for field goals like we did in the AFCG.
-
I'm fine with sitting guys this week, it's the right move and we aren't losing at home to a weak team with a mid round rookie QB making his 2nd career start even if Allen and the defense aren't on the same level they were last week.
-
It's not too late for him to be able to fine tune this aspect of his game, but as others have mentioned it doesn't preclude him from being a top 5 franchise QB in this league as long as he can deliver when it matters most when games are on the line and you have to move the ball more methodically down the field and can't just air it out 50 yards down field in one shot to win a game.

Simms- "Buffalo is the best team in the AFC"
FilthyBeast replied to Stank_Nasty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also don't believe the Broncos will be in final playoff picture but their defense is legit top 5 and doing what it should similar to the Bills against weaker teams. We'll know a lot more about them this week against the Ravens. At this point though I still see the West sending 3 total teams to the playoffs (likely Raiders/Chiefs/Chargers) -
Bills 17.5 pt favorites vs the Texans
FilthyBeast replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if Allen and the offense don't replicate last weeks performance I expect the defense to have another big day and get at least 2 turnovers and 4+ sacks against the Texan's Davis Mills led offense. So in other words covering this spread is very likely unless we let up a bunch of garbage time stuff or the offense isn't as crisp as last week. -
Schedule makers did us no favors
FilthyBeast replied to 4merper4mer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly our schedule is set up perfectly and the only real tough stretch is coming up with back to back primetime road games @ KC and TN. If I had any complaints is that I would prefer to have the bye week more in the middle of the schedule similar to last year. Also playing the Jets and Pats x 2 later in the season initially appeared challenging because the assumption was made that both those teams would be playing better football as the season goes on but I'm not sure we don't sweep the division again this year based on how weak pretty much everyone else looks especially the Jets. In the end I predicted 12-5 assuming tougher division games but this may very well be a 14-3 team even with another bad loss/upset like the Steelers game. -
This move seems a bit desperate on the surface because I'm really not sure what Gordon even has to offer at this point than just a 'name'. I think the bigger issue with the Chiefs is their defense right now which I did not expect to be this bad but maybe they just need some time to find their groove similar to some of the Pats defenses in years past that seemed to be sieves early in the season but then became dominant by Nov/Dec.

Simms- "Buffalo is the best team in the AFC"
FilthyBeast replied to Stank_Nasty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still too early to know but if the Bills can beat both the Chiefs and Titans in back to back primetime road games it would probably be hard to argue otherwise. -
Bill Belichick. Greatest fraud in NFL history.
FilthyBeast replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't agree Belichik is a fraud but it's obviously apparent that he misses Brady more than Brady misses him. And at this point I won't be surprised if he quietly rides off into the sunset after the 2021 season because (at least so far) this years Patriots are the same or worse than the 2020 squad with Newton and Mac Jones is not cable of being anything more than a game manager which isn't going to win many games outside of bottom feeders and other rebuilding teams. But speaking of coaches in genearl, you can argue any pro sports head coach wouldn't be nearly as great without having star players around them. Would Phil Jackson have won an insane amount of NBA titles without Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, Shaq, etc? He probably wouldn't have ever been to the NBA finals let alone win one. Bill Walsh without Joe Montana/Jerry Rice? Andy Reid is/was a good coach but never climbed to the top without Mahomes. -
Allen played a great game yesterday and looked like the guy most felt he was so it was great to see. The skeptic in me left though still needs to see this against the Chiefs, Titans, etc because those are the games that matter so hopefully he's 100% confident heading into those games after what should be another glorified exhibition game this week against the Texans.

Bills and The AFC: Three Games In
FilthyBeast replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Cleveland it's still going to come down to Baker Mayfield and I'm still not sure I trust him in big moments and as of today would easily still pick Allen over him if we match up in the playoffs home or away. I also agree that the Chiefs are still the measuring stick and it will be interesting to see if McDermott and his coaching staff show the kind of balls that the Ravens and Chargers did the last few weeks because that's how you are going to ultimately beat them not settling for field goals and/or giving the ball back to Mahomes with 2 minutes or under left. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
FilthyBeast replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe it's just me but it seems that all the big plays given up yesterday (specifically during the WTF mini run in the 2nd quarter) that Edmunds seemed to be a liability or missed a tackle. I still will never understand what the coaching staff sees in him but there's really nothing that stands out about his game and even when he has had opportunities to make game changing plays (i.e. INT) it just doesn't happen. -
Bills and The AFC: Three Games In
FilthyBeast replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Naw they are still a contender this year, although yesterday was definitely serious luck with that FG. But how serious a contender remains to be seen because the AFC WC picture is very crowded again their division is up there as one of the toughest in the league right now even with the Steelers magically struggling after their playing their SB against us in week one. -
I thought both the Giants and Jets would be much better this year, but the latter is flat out terrible and has to be in the 0-17 and #1 overall pick discussion right now. Will be fun watching Trubisky and our 2nd/3rd stringers demolish the Jets in the final game of the season.

I could see this game being a little closer (i.e. not covering the 17 point spread) but it's still important for Allen and the defense to continue to 'fine tune' before we face the Chiefs who aren't going away despite their surprising slow start. Titans have also rebounded strong after their disappointing opening day loss.

Bills and The AFC: Three Games In
FilthyBeast replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not going to guess seeding but I could see the AFC shaking out something like this: AFCE - Bills AFCN - Browns AFCS - Titans AFCW - Raiders Wildcard1 - Chiefs WIldcard2 - Chargers Wildcard3 - Ravens On the fringe/just miss out - Dolphins, Bengals, Broncos Biggest disappointment for me is Patriots, I thought they would be much better but it's clear their offense is an issue and simply not that good. Colts are up there as well and not likely rebounding this year. -
"Buy stock in A.J. Epenesa" - says Daniel Jeremiah
FilthyBeast replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Won't be surprised to see two players finish with 10+ sacks this year even if AJ isn't one of them. But it's nice to finally see a 2nd year player take a massive leap instead of regress which has been the case before with a lot of this teams 1st/2nd round picks. -
PFF grades Milano as league's best linebacker so far
FilthyBeast replied to Lothar's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was kind of on the fence about resigning him but Milano has been a monster and if he stays healthy and keeps producing at this level he's on his way to an all pro season. -
Wow Bills Fans, it's been ten years already since....
FilthyBeast replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha, it was certainly our 'superbowl' of the drought years so to speak. For me though I associated most with 'Peak Fitz' in that this is essentially the game that earned him the ill advised extension and coincidentally our season went into the toilet shortly after when I believe we finished 6-10 after a 5-2 start. -
TNF: Panthers at Texans 8:20 NFLN
FilthyBeast replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not playing at an MVP level quite yet but just looking at his overall production as a whole compared to NY is amazing including 2 straight 300+ yard games. At this point though need to see what he does against the likes of Tampa Bay, Bills, etc because the Panthers early schedule has been favorable so to speak. -
Scouting The Washington Football Team
FilthyBeast replied to Dont Stop Billeiving's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aside from Allen, the major concerns I would have in this game are: 1) Defense having a letdown after such a ridiculous overall performance against the Dolphins especially if this Heinke kid gains steam with extra time to prepare. 2) Redskins Dline and overall defense playing up to the expecations of a top 5 defense that most pundits thought heading into the season. One or both of these happen and it will be a tricky game for sure (especially if Allen does in fact continue to struggle).
