Help me out, what does the new defense look like?
BigAl2526 replied to BillsFan692's topic in The Stadium Wall
Buffalo will continue to use a rotation at the one tech spot, Jones is likely to have more of the reps in obvious run down situations where Settle gets more reps in obvious passing downs. Rousseau may be the starter at LDE, but Basham is going to get reps there too. Miller obviously starts at RDE. He's also get most of the obvious passing down reps. -
I don't know that there is room for Hughes with Miller on the roster. To keep Hughes, they might have to cut one of the younger defensive ends they've drafted over the last 3 years. If they think they youngsters still have untapped upside, that is unlikely. One thing is pretty certain. Jerry Hughes has probably run out of untapped upside.

Runs a 4.5 40 at 6'6". I read something that suggested there were some questions about his willingness to work hard, but if he can work hard and focus, the Bills are going to be unstoppable on offense.

Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million
BigAl2526 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Like many, I wonder about the back end of the 6 year deal. I think Beane is too smart to get the Bills locked into a deal where they have lots of guaranteed money and cap dollars tied up in a player who has lost his effectiveness, but not knowing the details makes me nervous for the future. Still, in 2022 the Bills are certainly going to be formidable. -
Since we lost our on Jones what about Lorenzo Carter?
BigAl2526 replied to The Jokeman's topic in The Stadium Wall
If the team needs another Jones, I offer my services. I can warm the bench as well as anybody. If I have to take the field though, the team is in trouble. -
Nothing to see here. I don't think Sal's comment was intended as any kind of slam to Judon. He simply used Judon's comment as a jump off point to observe that recruiting free agents to play in New England is tougher now than in the hey day of Brady's leadership at QB and the annual championships. If Judon wants to be hypersensitive about it, nobody's going to stop him, but that's not going to make recruiting any easier.

The Bills were never in the market for Saquan Barkley. This is the kind of signing that Beane typically uses to fill out the roster in preparation for the draft. McKissic has ordinary measurables. He's a little lighter and a little faster than Moss or Singletary, not nearly as fast as Brieda was, but that didn't help Brieda be greatly productive. McKissic was pretty productive for two seasons with Washington. Prior to that he was pretty ordinary. Though somewhat undersized, he's fairly well rounded. Yes, he's a proficient pass catcher, but he also knows how to run and he's not a liability in pass blocking. He's not going to be a star, but he could be productive. Overall, it's a pretty solid signing.

It's like practicing with a real short cornerback acting as a defender.

Bills' traits players in later draft rounds - Troy Andersen
BigAl2526 replied to Lothar's topic in The Stadium Wall
He'll probably go late second or early 3rd so he's not late enough to fit the parameters of this thread, but I'm intrigued by Sam Williams, an edge rusher from Ole Miss who measures 6'4" 265 lbs and runs a 4.46 40. He's listed as a 3-4 OLB, but I can't se any reason he wouldn't make a good RDE in a 4-3. -
On the front page of this web site is a link to an article that says Chandler Jones is more interested in finding the right fit to maximize his potential than making the most money he can. If he meets with Beane, I assume McDermott will be part of that meeting for the purpose of explaining how he could be used. Then they'll talk money. Buffalo is good enough now that some quality free agents may give a discount because signing with Buffalo means a chance at winning Super Bowls. Maybe Chandler is one of them.

The fact that Haack accepted such a renegotiation of his contract suggests he understands how bad he stunk this past season. I'll be elated if the Bills replace him, but at least his contract is less of a cap liability now.
-
I thought his combine results were underwhelming. He'll be a good pro, but I'm hoping for something a little more impactful in a first round pick. At WR, I think Buffalo needs some speed. Diggs is pretty fast, but outside of him the Bills are pretty average in the speed department, especially if McKenzie is gone.

Of course, free agency will have a bearing on what the Bills do. So will the picks of the teams ahead of Buffalo. So, any prediction of the Bills' pick has to be fraught with "ifs" and "buts." I think the Bills will be intrigued by a number of players. I'd be surprised if they have their football hearts set on Tyler Linderbaum for reasons other have alluded to: a lack of size and positional flexibility. There are a number of players possessing elite traits, who might be available. Jameson Williamson is one. So is Jermaine Johnson, the three defensive linemen from Georgia. I think if any of them are available, Buffalo will give serious consideration. I don't think Sauce Gardner will be available, nor will Stingley. None of the rest of the CBs have elite speed and athleticism. Any of Kaier Elam, Andrew Booth Trent McDuffie, or Roger McCreary would be a solid, safe pick. I could see any of them ending up as a Bill, but that's less likely if a player with elite traits is available. It's the same with interior linemen. Zion Johnson is a good player with position versatility Kenyon Green is another one. He might be a bit more physical, but a little less position flexible. That's about as much as I'm willing to narrow it down.

What changes will Ken Dorsey bring to the Bills offense?
BigAl2526 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Gee. That's Greg Roman's philosophy. It does make some sense. If Josh Allen is your QB, you'd better have an offense that takes advantage of his arm strength. I think that any changes will be in the form of tweaks rather than an overhaul. I'm sure he'll want to have an effective run game, both to provide some balance and to draw the safeties closer to the line, thus opening up deep routes. It wouldn't surprise me if tight ends got more touches, but it's not going to turn into a tight end centered offense. -
That freakish foot speed means he might have higher upside than a two down run stuffer. Whether or not the Bills think he's worth the 25th overall depends on the due diligence the Bills are able to do in assessing whether he can take advantage of that raw athleticism and turn into a three down player.

There are receivers who are both. If there are two good receivers and one of them runs a 4.3 and one runs a 4.6, guess which one I want.

Bills interested in signing Rob Gronkowski, per Tim Graham
BigAl2526 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Gronk is talented and probably has enough left in the tank to be a valuable addition, but I sort of doubt he's a process guy. He's not known for being real diligent in practice and he's clearly been a "me guy" in recent years. I would guess and hope that adding Gronk to the roster would be dependent on him being able to demonstrate some kind of commitment to being a good team player. -
He had trouble coming up with something original since there were already two other threads saying the same thing.

Similar in size and even faster than Randy Moss. The definition of athletic freak.

Tim Graham: Bills stadium deal could be announced this week.
BigAl2526 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ideally, for late season games, you would need some way to keep moisture content of the soil controlled later in the season. You'd need great drainage at a minimum. Even better would be some way to heat the turf. That would keep the grass growing longer and minimize late season muddiness. Normally grass will grow if the air temperature is above 50 degrees. Below 50 it becomes dormant. In Rochester, we are often mowing into November now, One year we had to mow once in December. The climate is definitely changing -
I've seen several multi-round mock drafts projecting Araiza to the Bills, anywhere from round 5 to 7. I also saw a mock with Buffalo picking the second ranked punter prospect, though Araiza is the one with the freakish leg strength. I'd be very comfortable with Araiza in the 5th, less so in the 4th. There are some potential advantages, but also a risk. Sometimes punters outkick their coverage, leading to huge returns. Hopefully, he has the accuracy to put a punt out of bounds without sacrificing a lot of the punt's length for times when a big return could be especially costly.

I thought it was because his red nose drew too much attention from defenders. It made it hard for him to get open.

McDermott and Beane interviews from the Scouting Combine
BigAl2526 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Any kind of sudden death overtime is going to have flaws. Maybe the suggestion Buffalo has made could improve it. I haven't even looked at it, so I don't know. I'm firmly of the opinion that the Bills' proposal on overtime should have nothing to do with whether or not the Bills retain McDermott. Now, the late game choke of the Bills is certainly pertinent. It is what it is, poor strategy and poor execution both. I don't imagine any Bills fan was happy with what went down. On the other hand, I think letting go of McDermott over the final 13 seconds of regulation in that game would be the very pinnacle of stupidity. Why, when the wheels came off for the Bills at a crucial time in a crucial game? Because success can be an elusive prize in the NFL, and Sean McDermott has brought more success to the Bills than the team has experienced in a better part of a generation. I also believe that McDermott has a drive to get better and a willingness to learn from mistakes. There may come a time when the Bills should get rid of McDermott, but to me it looks like that day is years off. -
Kareem Hunt: Cut candidate. Possible 2022 Bill?
BigAl2526 replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have always believed that character matters, but I've also believed that character can change. Given Hunt's past, I would be exceedingly careful to check Hunt's off field behavior since the incident on video. I'd want to see not just a clean record, but evidence that he has acted in a way that reflects positive, healty relationships with women. Lacking that, I would pass.
