Your newest Buffalo Bill... WR Jalen Virgil!
BigAl2526 replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Since the Bills have cut Cain, I think they should have signed Abel. -
No Bills claimed on waivers. Time to calm down?

He can have my toaster. -
Here is a link to the latest configuration of the PS. Bills make changes to PS The Bills now have two safeties on the PS, Jackson and Cine. Also, they switched out Deon Cain for Jalen Virgil. They're both fast. Cain is a bit bigger, I think. There must be something they like better about Virgil's skill set.

I agree that this is a transition year. I'm not going to go through the OP and itemize what I agree with and disagree with. There is a good deal of both. While there is plenty of transitioning going on, I'm not writing off the possibility of success this season.

“Jets are in complete disarray” - B/R Article
BigAl2526 replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's true that there is some speculation in the article, but clearly Rodgers has a strong sense of entitlement, and his concept of team seems to be that it revolves around him. The Jets have opted for big name talent to try and overtake the Bills. I don't know if there have been times when that strategy worked, but I do know there are times when it has failed spectacularly. I'm hoping for the latter, or course. -

If the Bills sign him, it will be to the PS. It would be about getting him in the fold so he could compete at training camp next season. -
He played four games in his rookie season then suffered a compound fracture in his leg on punt coverage. I saw no record of him having played in 2023. I terms of his on field experience, he's functionally still a rookie. My guess is the Bills would like to use the PS to help him continue to acclimate to the pro game and teach him the Bills' defensive system. He started in college for Georgia and has great measurables (sub 4.4 40 at 6'2" and 200 lbs.) so he looks like a high upside project at this point. If it works out, he could be a contributor late in the season and a threat to compete as a starter next season. If Cole Bishop develops, it could give Buffalo a formidable pair at safety going forward.

Tim Patrick please (On his way to Detroit)
BigAl2526 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
Injuries and two years away from the field of play collectively constitute a deal breaker for me. -
Steve Johnson was an unconventional route runner. He usually got where he was supposed to be but he never made the cuts to get there the way plays were drawn up. That can work when you've got a QB who is very comfortable ad libbing, but it tends to make offensive coordinators turn gray. Some QBs would struggle with receivers like that.

Other Teams Cuts That Might Help the Bills
BigAl2526 replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think Beane has pulled off a trade every year before cutdowns. He's done it a couple times though, I think. -
Cam Newton, recognizing coverages, disguises and Sean McDermott

Upgrading talent is a constant challenge for NFL GMs. Hyde and Poyer gave the Bills stability for a long time at the safety position even if they weren't elite athletes. They were top notch mentally. Now that they're gone, It's proven a challenge to find replacements mostly because of injuries. Beyond Rapp and Hamlin (average to below average athletes, the Bills really don't know what they have. Cole Bishop is a pretty good athlete with some size. We don't know how easily he will transition to the NFL. Mike Edwards has been modestly productive in a reserve role. Can he do more? We don't know. Does Kareem Jackson still have anything in the tank. I think that the Bills linebacking has become more athletic (all the injuries not withstanding) over the last couple of seasons. Gone are special teamers disguised as backup linebackers (Tyler Matekevich) and players at the tail end of their NFL careers. Most of them are on the small side, but all of them have average to excellent speed. Even Joe Andreeson is a pretty good athlete. Except for Ed Oliver and the venerable Von Miller are really the only elite athlete on the defensive line. I question whether Von Miller is still elite, but he might still be pretty good if he has recovered from injury. Javon Solomon isn't elite by any stretch, but he's got some bend explosion and strength. Rousseau is a big rangy guy with good athleticism for his size, but he doesn't have the elite speed that the best DEs in the league have. Everybody else is lower still. It's potentially a good defensive line versus the run if they play with discipline. They need Von Miller to show up, Rousseau to take another step and Solomon to surprise this year if they are going to get a decent number of sacks. I'm not expecting much of anything from Epenesa. I think with him, what we see is what we're going to continue to get: an occasional sack, OK run defense and some pass deflections. I'm not thinking too much past the upcoming season, but I can imagine that finding an elite pass rusher is going to be a pretty high priority next off season. -
If Trubisky is healthy and the Bills don't decide he's garbage, DiNucci probably gets signed to the PS. He had a strong game against the Panthers. If Trubisky can't go or the Bills decide the fans are right about Trubisky (he's garbage). The Bills could name DiNucci as their backup or look for someone with more NFL experience. If DiNucci is named backup, I could see Brown signed to the PS. He wasn't terrible versus Carolina. I could also se Buffalo looking hard at the waiver wire. There will be some interesting QBs available.

Who’s stock is up after today’s game? Who’s stock went down?
BigAl2526 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think any receiver has really had a chance to do much of anything. Josh played relatively few snaps and the play calling all preseason has been conservative with few downfield passes being called. -

Kendall Williamson is filling out applications for all the supermarkets in his mother's neighborhood. -
Mrs McDermott could probably kick my ass.

I don't want a backup who is so different from Josh. I would take an average arm and mobility over a strong armed statue.

Panthers @ Bills, Preseason game 3, Sat 8/24 1pm
BigAl2526 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Chicago game was abysmal. I grant you that. The only positive about it was that it could have served as a wake up call. The Pittsburgh game showed that the Bills can play defense at a high level. II was not discouraged by the Carolina game. Kendall Williamson has secured a ticket out of Buffalo. Yes, the WR room is uncertain, but uncertain does not necessarily mean bad. I'm not saying the Bills are going to be great this season. I'm just saying it's too early to make the judgment that they are going to be great, terrible or somewhere in between. -

Rodgers absolutely does not have early onset dementia. You have to be young to have early onset dementia. -

I've not seen much from Buffalo's deep depth in the secondary. They're pretty porous at this point. Thankfully, Buffalo has good CBs not playing today. Hopefully their safeties get healthy for the opener. -

I get what you're saying about Trubisky. He's done nothing to suggest he belongs on the roster. I think you're giving Brown a little too much credit. It's not that he's played poorly. He's just not had much time to do anything. He's completed 2 passes, one on the 2 point conversion after your post. He also had a productive run. The rest of the time, he's been Dinucci from the Pittsburgh game, just handing the ball off. If I'm McBeane, I'm certainly considering keeping Dinucci as my backup over Trubisky. Cut down day around the league may have something to do with how things turn out. -

I get the sentiment. Neither available QB inspires confidence that they can do much of anything. The problem is, Buffalo doesn't need to do much evaluating of their running backs as runners. They need to identify pass catchers, particularly wide receivers. They can't do that by handing the ball off all game. I think the Bills may try doing some passing even with their newbee QBs. -
Do Athletes endorsements affect your purchasing?
BigAl2526 replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall
I could care less about whether a product is or isn't endorsed by a sports celebrity, or any other kind of celebrity. I've never been close to what one would describe as well to do. I've had a comfortable lifestyle mostly because my wife and I have always tried to be smart about purchases. That doesn't leave a lot of room for impulse buying. Purchasing something because of a celebrity endorsement is impulse buying. -
Players that we might trade instead of release at cutdown
BigAl2526 replied to mushypeaches's topic in The Stadium Wall
Think about the kind of player we might hope the Bills could trade for versus the kind of player we might hope to pick up via free agency after cut. Other teams have the same thoughts. Most of the players on the OP's list are the kind of players teams will hope to sign if they hit the waiver wire. My guess is the Bills will be fortunate if they can make one trade. I agree, experienced linemen are probably the most tradeable commodity.
