  1. Maybe it was the snarky 'and quit on his team and retired' part. For some reason some posters here just can't help but get an unnecessary barb in when talking about past players. He played 9 seasons on garbage teams going no where and never complained, held out, or demanded a trade. Sounds petty given Schobel ranks top 100 of all defensive players, all time in 3 statistical categories. (Sacks/ Tackles for a loss and forced fumbles).
  2. Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not? On his birthday I want to just put into perspective what a terrific Buffalo Bill, and football player, Aaron Schobel was. Aaron Schobel is officially Buffalo's 2nd all time sack leader Some of the 1960's 1970's players may have more, since sacks weren't counted until 1982. For those that don't know or didn't watch Schobel's career: 8 of his 9 seasons he played all 16 games. (started 11 in his rookie season, lost 11 games to injury in 2008) He had 78 sacks, 98 tackles for a loss, 21 forced fumbles, 8 fumble recoveries, 31 passes defended, 3 INT and a defensive TD in 133 games. He was a complete DE. He was a 2x Pro Bowler, 1 x 2nd team All Pro when Buffalo was largely discounted and an era of excellent pass rushers. Schobel had double digit sacks in 4 of 9 seasons. That becomes double digit sacks in 4 of 7 seasons as a 16 game starter. 3 of his 9 seasons he was in the NFL top ten for forced fumbles (2004, 2006, 2007) 3 of his 9 seasons he was in the NFL top 10 for sacks (2003, 2005, 2006) 3 of his 9 seasons he was in the NFL top 10 for tackles for a loss (2003, 2005, 2009) These were spread around and not all in the same three seasons. At one point he was neck and neck with Jason Taylor for most sacks over a 3 to 5 year period. (I can't recall exactly, it was noted in a Bills vs Dolphins game broadcast at the time, a story line was Taylor vs Schobel) Among all defensive players he is currently in the top 100 NFL All Time ranks in the following categories: 43rd for tackles for a loss 60th for forced fumbles 81st for sacks since 1982 (when stat was started) I have seen Schobel bagged on TBD and among Bills fans at times, which makes no sense, so I wanted to set the record straight. He is in my top 3 Bills during the Buffalo 'Dark Ages' (Moulds/ Schobel/ Brown) Happy Birthday Aaron. He was a hell of a player. I think we would all be happy to see Groot match or exceed this production with the Bills.
  3. I would be more comfortable with Trufant/ Amukamara at CB than some of the depth/PS probable CBs for a Super Bowl push. Same with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as a Marlowe replacement at S. I am not enthralled with Johnson having potential fill in reps at S, and Hamlin is an unknown.
  4. No real surprises here. Congrats to Zimmer, Hamlin and Stevenson who had excellent showings in the preseason. The Ferguson cut has been covered ad nauseum. The Hollister cut, if it stands, would be a moderate surprise given the lack of depth at TE and a solid pre-season. Perhaps they are going the Ferguson route with him, or have an eye on another TE? The Bam Johnson trade was probably the best value that could be obtained to gain something in a crowded DL room. The Butler and Addison contracts probably came into play a bit in the decision, both internally and with trade partners. Will be interesting to see who gets the temporary IR move and who is called back. As for the PS I hope Cam Lewis and Nick McCloud come back, or a vet is brought in as callable depth.
  5. Some good DBs in the twilight of their careers available for depth. Many with significant snaps from 2018-2020. I haven't seen any signings yet. I am not proposing the following could be replacements for starters, but could add some solid depth. I know PFF is persona non grata here, but it's one way to measure player ability https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-roster-cuts-tracker-2021 POS-NAME-(Snaps 2018-2020)-PFF Grade CB - Desmond Trufant (1906) - 64.4 CB - Rasul Douglas (1868) - 64.2 CB - Prince Amukamara - (1869) - 78.5 CB - Pierre Desir (2257) - 66.0 S - Clayton Geathers (1178) - 73.9 S - Will Parks (1349) - 64 S - Tony Jefferson (1211) - 66.8 S- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (2091) - 81.2 Others available: CB Dre Kirkpatrick CB Richard Sherman
  6. It's the exact script Bill B and Bill Parcells used against Buffalo in Super Bowl 25
  7. He built his offense to do exactly what Buffalo is not strong defending. A versatile run game, and passing to TEs. He brought in two above average TEs, and Buffalo was abysmal covering TEs last year. Expect a lot of 2 TE sets with a lot of RB motion to take advantage of the Bills defensive weaknesses.
  8. Just a friendly reminder about waivers https://dknation.draftkings.com/nfl/2021/8/30/22648201/nfl-waiver-wire-rules-2021-which-team-has-top-priority-claims-order ^ compares NFL waivers/ cuts vs fantasy football, but a good overview So during cut downs, younger players you want to stash on the PS (still 16 slots) and not be subject to waivers are 'kept on the 53' at cut down. To do so, you may need to cut a veteran with 4+ accrued seasons, with a 'gentleman's agreement' that they will be brought back after the younger players are assigned to the PS. As a Free agent the vested veteran decides where they go to, and are not subject to a 'first claim' through the waiver process. Over the Cap shows Jacob Hollister with 4 accrued seasons and is thus not subject to waivers. Making this more confusing are the rules about when a player is put on PUP/IR and if or when they are eligible to come back during the season. I have a feeling Hollister is very much in line with the Roberts type of move of last year, especially given how few TEs are actually on the roster.
  9. I seem to remember a terrible call
  10. Oh wow, we both saw the same thing, even the same comparison!?! The truth is the truth
  11. Didn't get to see him in game 1 or 2, but honestly Webb and Fromm looked better than Lauletta last night. Woof! Expect to see him among the cuts, to get this back on topic 😄
  12. Good read, sounds like not much has changed, it is a part of who he is. In other news Browns backup QB Kyle Lauletta, who some Bills fans liked pre Allen, looked terrible.
  13. Better game against Chicago. I do believe he had the pick six against Detroit that was called back for the Basham call.
  14. New Hampshire is a hidden gem, I lived in MA, about 30 minutes from Nashua for a couple of years. Frequently visited Keene, Nashua and Brookline. I think it is tough because of the coaches and teams. Miami, Buffalo and New England are all teams that have like 80-90% of their teams built to make deep playoff runs. Each one is a piece or two short be considered the favorite in the conference. Billy B is a defensive genius and has his offense play complimentary to it. What has been impressive is how New England can change their offense based on it's personnel to compliment the defense. I think the Pat Defense is going to be top 3 this year with the return of a bunch of key players. Bill went for the 2 TE/ RB bully approach again which takes pressure off the QB and less than stellar WR. McDermott is also defensive minded and has built some very good defenses like the Panther one that went to the SB. His defense with the Bills doesn't wow you, but it rarely makes a mistake. The offense facing it has to be patient or it will make mistakes and get frustrated. McDermott is also smart enough to realize that the Bills are an offense first team now and has gotten more aggressive with calls. The guy broke a 17 season non playoff streak, and has gotten Buffalo to the playoffs 3 out of 4 seasons, with some marginal talent at times. Miami has been a very good turnaround. They are solid almost all over. They beat on lesser opponents, but struggle against the elite teams. A tough out though. Flores has done more right than wrong, but the handling of the QB situation last year was a red flag IMO. The Jets are turning things around, but those wins in the division will be earned. Sports Illustrated has the division being so difficult that it assumes the Bills will be 2-4 in it 😄
  15. I am also on the Nick McCloud bandwagon. I was really hoping he would show more in the 3rd game, made some nice plays on the ball in game 1 and 2. Tre White mentioned him in an interview.
  16. Well Justin Fields likes to run anyway 😃
  17. Wow a lot of hard feelings about Johnson getting dealt. Never knew he has such a contingent of fans. He only got to hold the Duke Williams mantle for a few days 😄 Maybe its a mix of the Addison dislike too. I'm not a big Addison fan either, but making a trade takes 2 parties. It's no wonder a team was more interested in a younger, cheaper guy with 2 years left on his contract, than an older more expensive one with only one and a $2million dollar bonus due. (looked at over the cap) As for cutting Addison him, it looks like a nasty hit post June 1, and OBD would rather get something than nothing. I'd inactivate him and keep him fresh in the event he needs to fill in as an injury replacement, or if one of the young guys is struggling really badly. Given the situation, getting a 6th for my #7DE is a solid move.
  18. That is possible, I made a similar call but about Philadelphia last week. I don't think Minshew changes that.

  20. OMG yes. Rodak's clear New England homerism made it even more painful being the Patriot's punching bag. MLJ did a solid job and I think was starting to 'buy into the team' and provide some decent reporting
  21. I was a never Rosen guy in the draft, but remain intrigued now that he is a bargain basement cast off, so I watched intently. For a guy signed just 2-3 days prior he physically looked fine. Lot's of zip on the ball, confident, and for the most part he placed it where he wanted to. A lot of miscues between where he thought WR would go vs where he wanted to put the ball based on coverage, but to be expected given the lack of practice time and he was playing with future real estate agents and insurance salesmen. The issue with him remained his body language and the faces he made after incompletions or mistakes. Very Jay Cutler like. Rosen's body language is atrocious and as the half went on it got worse. Yet he played a lot better than the other backup QB who started the first half. Rosen's issues will always be attitude and then staying healthy. That is what I made of this half.
  22. Jurrell Casey is FA and about 6'1 305. He was 5 time Pro Bowl DT. He will turn 32 this year. He suffered a torn bicep last year and has not been in camp that I know of. He would be a best emergency option IMO, but not sure at this point what he offers over the existing DT on the roster. Dre Kirkpatrick is also available. He will turn 32 this year, his production declined a bit last year, but a name to keep an eye on for a CB needy team. Agreed, but he working on that helmet collection of teams 'played' for. He is up to 4 now. And he does have a fairly strong personality, though no one can compete with Fitzmagic/ Fitztragic
  23. agree, the contract restructure was to lessen dead cap impact if Addison is cut or traded. If Shaq Lawson can fetch a pick, Mario Addison certainly can.
  24. Beane did not draft Dawkins. White, Dawkins and Milano were drafted by Coach McDermott. Pretty good draft IMO. Beane was hired 10 days after the 2017 draft.
  25. Shaq Lawson is going to be the Ryan Fitzpatrick of DE 😄
