Not to Add Fuel to the Fire This Week but.....
jahnyc replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely need to go after the governor about this. Cuomo is playing with fire here with a 90 something year old owner and an expiring lease in one of the smallest NFL markets. Delay is not acceptable in these circumstances. -
We just lost a WR, so the Bills sign a RB???
jahnyc replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can this guy play? I understand that he knows the playbook, but he really did not look good last year or in preseason this year. -
Even with an improved defensive line, I think we all undersestimated potential problems associated with having a rookie CB, a second year CB, and a second year middle linebacker as starters at key positions on defense. Combine this with an average QB and a depleted WR corp, and you have the ingredients for some significant difficulties, particularly early in the season.

Jackson suffers LCL injury,nothing conclusive...
jahnyc replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Toronto Sun article posted on the front page about Fred is a lot more negative and mentions surgery after the swelling goes down. Is this right? Have not seen this reported anywhere else. -
Maybe having Gilmore, Williams, Moats and Sheppard all out there starting on the defense is too much to overcome in terms of lack of experience? Gilmore and Williams looked lost today and played poorly. Sheppard seemed to be blocked out of making plays on a regular basis and seems frozen in place in pass coverage. Did Moats make any plays? Does he have the ability to play outside LB? Interesting that McKelvin, a veteran player, still could not beat out Gilmore or Williams to start at CB. I think Gilmore will be okay, but I am not sure whether Williams, Moats or Sheppard should be starting.

If it is a LCL sprain, does anyone know the average recovery time? -
Some thoughts about the Bills/Jets game
jahnyc replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, in a very negative mood. Yes, Spiller looked good today, but I wish he didn't fumble at the end of the second quarter. Assuming Fred is out for some period time, at least we have Spiller who can carry the load. -
1. Team was unprepared and out coached on offense, defense and special teams. 2. The Bills gave the Jets something they lacked going into this game: confidence in Sanchez. Very unfortunate that we could not convert the Sanchez interception into points. May have changed the entire complexion of the game and the Jets confidence in Sanchez. 3. Our corners (Gilmore, Williams and McKelvin) looked horrible today. Not sure why the Jets receivers were open all of the time, regardless of the down or situation. I am really worried about Williams. I have doubts whether he should be playing. Kind of surprised that Gilmore played as badly as he did. I know he is a rookie, but he looked really bad today. Teams have all three of these guys to exploit this season, and McKelvin has been a target for years. Can't hide these guys, they can be isolated and taken advantage of. 4. Overall, our defensive play was horrible. One of the worst overall performances I can recall. 5. Was there a defensive game plan? No pass rush hurt. Rush defense was okay, but I often noticed that Sheppard had been blocked five yards from where the defensive stop was made. The Bills could not get off the field. Ever. Why did the secondary look so lost all game? I don't think they made one pass break-up all game. They were playing yards from the receivers and they were beat badly on every pass play. 6. On offense, what kind of game plan targets Revis and Cromartie? Should have thrown away from them to Chandler, Nelson and the running backs. A poster recently posted whether the Bills had the two best corners in the NFL. They do not (not even top 30), but the Jets do, and it showed today. 7. Moorman punted poorly today. 8. Not sure what to say about Fitz. Just a really bad game. Same with Byrd. 9. Not sure if Landry was the one who hit Jackson, but I noticed that Landry did make some dirty plays during the game. I thought the hit on Jackson was dirty. 10. Best play of the game for the Bills was Chandler giving Ryan a bit of an elbow as he was going out of bounds. 11. Stevie did not look right to me today. We do not have the wide receivers (other than Stevie) to really challenge defenses. 12. We made Stephon Hill of the Jets look like an all pro. He looked raw, lost and overall pretty bad during preseason.

Dave Wannstedt 2012-2013 Thread
jahnyc replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was kind of worried about Wanny before the start of the season. Against the Jets, there was no pass rush, the secondary looked absolutely lost, and our corners were exposed on every passing play. Didn't matter whether it was a short pass or a long pass, there was no coverage. Really poor start and makes me wonder if Wanny knows what he is doing. The defensive game plan was non-existent. Overall, one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a Bills defense. -
A thought regarding the 2010 draft
jahnyc replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Darreus is Nix's best pick so far, even if a no-brainer. Gilmore seems to have great potential. For a high first round pick, I think Spiller has been a bit of a disappointment, but overall, Nix is doing a better job with our first round selections, with caveats that Darreus was the obvious pick and Gilmore has not played in the regular season yet. We should not forget that Maybin and McKelvin were our first picks in the two years prior. We really need A. Williams and Sheppard to perform this year. Both play key positions. If they do not play well, you would have to give Nix a poor overall grade for the 2010 and 2011 drafts. Too early to grade the 2012 draft, but if Gilmore and Glenn play well as rookies, then this draft is on its way to being above average. Not sure what we have with Searcy, Moats and Carrington. We will see. Best recent draft was in 2009. Sure Maybin was a total bust for us, but Wood, Levitre and Byrd are all close to all-pro caliber players. -
Gailey confirms that roster is not set

I think that Hagan or Easley is re-signed to the active roster after Brooks is put on IR on Tuesday. Another possibility is the Bills sign a free agent CB. -
Tank cut - Carder to Cleveland Browns
jahnyc replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do we know if he was signed to Cleveland's active roster or practice squad? -
So Carrington made it (as a DT)? That is a surprise. I expect we will take advantage of the new IR rule for one player and eventually waive Thigpen after Jackson learns the playbook. That will open up two spots on the roster for a wide receiver and another DB since McGee is still recovering from his knee problems.
-
If Brooks really has a broken foot, I wonder if he gets put on the new IR, or if they use it on McGee.
-
I think the situation with the corners (injury for Rogers and set back for McGee) is a complication for determining the roster. May also impact whether the Bills feel they can keep Potter as a kick-off specialist.
-
Not sure about that. Chris Brown had been reporting that Edwards was playing well. Carrington has been a non-factor at DE and DT. Gilbert seems pegged for DE and Heard does not seem to add much. I think that Edwards was an upgrade over what is left at DT, even if his more natural position is DE in a 3-4.
-
The Bills have no depth at defensive tackle other than Spencer Johnson, and Williams is coming off of a significant injury. Cutting Edwards is a mistake. Neither Carrington nor Heard should be on the regular season roster.
-
The reality is that we need Williams (and, for that matter, Sheppard) to step up and play well this year. Both are starters and play positions that can be easily exposed if they are not up to it. McKelvin may be a better choice as starting CB this year, but based on his past performance and given that he will be a free agent after this season, it does make some sense to see if Williams is the answer as a starter, as long as it does not hurt the defense significantly.

Kind of feel badly for Thigpen. He needed a big game tonight (in a positive way). -

I know it was Megatron, but Williams looked really bad (not even close to staying with him). He has not played well this preseason. -
We really need A. Williams and Sheppard to step up this year. Otherwise, the 2011 draft will be a bust other than Darreus, who was a no brainer of a pick.
-
Buffalobills.com notes that Morrison is going to get some time at middle line backer against the Steelers. May have nothing to do with the play of Sheppard, but who knows.
-
I like a lot that Nix has done as well, including hiring Gailey, picking up Urbick and Reinhart off of waivers, and signing Williams, Anderson and Barnett, but his drafts are not measuring up at this point. Darreus and Gilmore should be very good players, but Nix missed with Troup, Carrington and Easley. Williams and Sheppard need to step up this year since they will both start, but I have my doubts, particularly with Sheppard. If he is ineffective, there will be a big hole in the defense. Glenn also needs to perform well, which a lot of pressure for a rookie at a key position. Our first round picks have improved under Nix, but we still need better production from our draft picks to have success.
-
I would think that Troup and Carrington are in some danger of being cut.

1. The Bills continue to like college players from the South: South Carolina, Georgia and NC State are the schools we have drafted from so far in this draft. 2. Drafting Gilmore confirms what we all knew: McKelvin is a huge bust (joining Maybin and Lynch (at least for the Bills)). 3. The Bills always do something weird on draft day. This year it is T.J. Graham, who was a huge reach and makes little sense in the third round. 4. I hope the Bills re-sign Levitre. If Glenn cannot handle LT or RT, maybe he will be the replacement for Urbick and Rhinehart, who are both free agents after this season. 5. Some draft people have criticized Glenn for not having the football intelligence to handle edge rushers. Can someone translate and explain to me what this means? 6. We really have drafted for need rather than BPA, although I have no idea who we would have drafted if Gilmore had also been gone. 7. I hope the Bills take care of Fred soon.
