It is the Bills. Pretty forward looking by our management. -
This Will Be The Make Or Break Year For This Regime
jahnyc replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting upcoming season for McD. He showed his coaching ability in his first year with the Bills coaching team that was not particularly talented to the playoffs and ending the playoff drought. He has more talent now, but less than in past years, so hopefully coaching will be able to bridge the current gaps so we can have a return to the playoffs this season. -
A step back given the loss of Diggs, rotational defensive line players, ST players and overall depth. I really don't see any improvements to a roster that I thought already was below the talent level of a number of other teams, including San Fran, Baltimore, Miami and KC. I think the Bills will miss Morse, Floyd and Diggs in particular. I know that we were hamstrung by the salary cap this season, but the Bills really needed to improve their overall talent level. Post initial free agency and the draft, I don't think we have moved significantly in that direction.

Our draft feels like a draft to fill depth more than anything else. Did we pick the best player at any of the positions for which we drafted? Not according to the draft experts, but time will tell. If the goal was to draft players to be starters this season, I would have expected a more aggressive effort to move up in the draft at key positions of need, such as WR. I assume that Coleman will be a starter, but he seems to be pegged as more of a slot than anything else, not a needed #1 or #2 WR. I guess Van Pran Granger and Bishop will get shots, but I don't see them as full-time starters this season, but we will see.
-
More than the other picks that they have traded, this is the pick that the Bills can really leverage, but if they want a particular WR, I expect that they will make the pick because some of the teams drafting immediately after them seem to have significant needs at WR (i.e., the Patriots and the Chargers).
-
Can we even make a trade for Aiyuk or Higgins if we wanted to? I thought that a player traded for would need to fit under the acquiring team's cap before it can be consummated. Would not be able to do that with Aiyuk or Higgins at this point.

So Billsy. Not even picking on the first night of the draft with significant needs. -

I think it will be Keon Coleman for the Bills. -
Rumor: Bills trying aggressively to move up for a WR in round one

Bummed, but if the Bills don't move up in the draft for Thomas or Worthy, I think they will take two WRs in the first four rounds. -

I think selecting Worthy at 28 would be reasonable value if he is available, but I am not seeing anything that suggests that he is or will become a true #1 WR, which, if true, means we would still need to fill that role. -

Seems like Odunze wants to go to Chicago to join Williams. Not sure if Chicago is planning to draft him at #9, but if we really want him, probably need to move in front of the Bears if he would otherwise be there at their pick. I don't think we will be able to pull this off, but I hope I am surprised tomorrow evening. If this does happen, I also hope that Odunze will be excited and appreciative. -

With all of the negative stuff that has been leaking out as we get closer to the draft, I would be surprised if the Bills were trying to move up for Thomas or Mitchell. Granted, this seems to happen before every draft, some of the information being true and some not so much, but given our needs, I can't see Beane using resources to trade up for a pick that does not have high character. If this is the case, and the target is a WR, it suggests that he wants Odunze. Not sure that an "aggressive" trade up would be necessary for Worthy, but if Mitchell and Thomas are falling on draft boards, I guess it is possible that Worthy would be considered by some teams to be the 4th best WR option n the draft. -
Now with potential character and injury concerns with Thomas (and character concerns with Mitchell), where does this leave us? Wondering if we draft a WR in the second round given that there may not be a WR with a first round grade left on our draft board.
-
Odunze is the ideal pick for the Bills. Unfortunately, he will not be available to us unless the Bills make a massive trade up in the draft to get him.
-
Seems like there are a lot of questions about the WRs available in the draft after you get past the top three and probably Thomas as well. I thought Mitchell would be the guy, but I now think that character questions will disqualify him as a possibility for the Bills. Starting to warm up to Worthy and Franklin, but I am not sure they are good value at 28 in the first round.
-
Herbert to the Vikings would be wild. I guess the Chargers would then draft McCarthy at #5?
-
A lot of stuff seems to be coming out about Adonai Mitchell's diabetes and being difficult (maybe "uncoachable"). Has this been out there for some time (the being difficult part) or is this the kind of negative misinformation that sometimes is put out there before the draft to intentionally hurt the draft position of a prospect?
-
I also like Odunze for the Bills. Has all of the physical skills and metrics to be a #1 WR. Also played at Washington, so he has experience playing in unpredictable weather, and was a team captain with leadership qualities.

Tom Brady picks the next QB to win their 1st Super Bowl

Everybody loves Josh (except maybe Diggs). -
Why do people want to trade Brown? I thought he improved last season and still seems to have potential to continue to improve. I get it that he is a free agent after next season, but don't we already have enough holes? I don't think Collins can be counted on to play full-time or to be an adequate replacement for Brown for a full season.

A lot of theories, speculation and sources about what may have been going on with DIggs, but this at least seems plausible. Beane did not want a simple restructure, but wanted Diggs to take less in some way, at least in guarantees. I can imagine that Diggs would not have reacted well. Does kind of explain the way Diggs spoke about things (Josh as well) before the trade. Who knows and we may never know.
-
A few thoughts below: 1. The Diggs trade puts more pressure on Allen both in terms of play and leadership, which seems the opposite of what should be happening with Allen already shouldering too much overall responsibility. 2. Have to think Diggs wanted out, probably for awhile, and may have specified the Texans as where he wanted to go. Given this potential dynamic, I don't think Allen had any power to keep Diggs from being traded. 3. The Bills have lost a lot of leadership this offseason. On offense, to maintain continuity, I would have kept Morse if the plan was to trade Diggs. I wouldn't be surprised if this makes it more likely that Hyde returns to the Bills this season. 4. If trading Diggs was the plan, I am surprised that the Bills did not take the max amount to restructure Allen this offseason. That extra cap space would have been helpful to address the WR situation and other holes on the roster this year. 5. Will be interesting to see Beane's strategy to replace Diggs. It certainly would make sense to draft a WR in the first round this year and possibly use draft resources to move up for a desired WR. Also makes sense from a financial perspective to have control over a drafted player for at least the next four years. Alternatively, is it possible that Beane views the potential availability of some top WRs next offseason as the more attractive option to replace Diggs? I guess whether we draft a WR or defense in the first round will be a potential indication of the strategy.

I hope we sign Simmons. Would be surprised if went into the season with Rapp and Edwards as our starters at safety.
-
I have no idea if he is happy or unhappy being a Bill, but if we were to trade him before the start of the season, I don't think we are getting much in return (probably a similar return as to what was received for Keenan Allen).
